...Apple's days as the illustrious company that they once were entirely because of Jobs' vision, are numbered imo.

Jobs' vision was great, but he also had that vision during a massive "heyday" in technology as a whole (that he likely helped start, as well). If you think Jobs would still be innovating the way he was 15-20 years ago, I believe you would be incorrect.

When was the last time India made anything of quality?

Sure, Indians can be trained but there will be a ton of growing pains.
So, a bit like China? China makes a lot of cheap low quality products, still do and previously were not known for quality until the last few decades.

India is going through a boom that China went through 30 years ago.

Not sure if you are just being disingenuous but it's absurd to claim or insinuate India has not, does not, or cannot produce items of quality. A lot of quality products come out of India.

So TSMC has their primary plant in Taiwan, an island basically surrounded by the Chinese navy now. TSMC's only option is to blow up the plant and all the machinery when Chine gets serious and invades.

The facility TSMC is building in Phoenix is many years away from the chip capacity Apple needs let alone being the current generation of processors. Intel has several fabs in the Phoenix area and others around the USA.

So the reality is Apple could be in the position of NO new TSMC chips availability and thus nothing to sell. Screen cleaning cloths and Apple pencils will not carry the day. I think even the "cables/wires" are probably all made in China.

We figure all of the M4 processor generation based gear we have could be operational for maybe six years in the worst case scenario. After that time, I will probably be too old to even care about phones and computers (age 80 now).

The quality of these devices is gonna be terrible on the high-end side as they do not have the skilled labor as China does. Corporate greed reigns supreme.

Of course they do. Apple's entire supply chain and assembly have been building in parallel down in India along side China for the past decade.

Both countries assemble products exactly how they are contracted. If the contract is best of breed so be it. If it is to last just after warranties end so be it.

When China was getting to be a power in manufacturing, people said the same thing: "Items made would be TERRIBLE." Nothing new here. The countries discussed are different. Besides, economists have been saying since the early '90s that India would overtake China in manufacturing and production because of its man-power and lower wage costs

Remember when people used to say that about Japanese cars? Eventually you had Lee Iacoca coming back to rescue Chrysler from American hubris. Nothing new indeed. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if BRICS becomes a serious thing within 20 years at this point and supplants the dollar as a reserve currency for the same reasons.

Steve Jobs’s official biography explains how India was an exceptionally special place to him.

Great to see increased manufacturing in India. Would be nice if the price of Pro models in the domestic market reduce as they are now manufactured within the country.

They're not.

There's an actual NYT bestselling book about the China manufacturing phenomenon, which was created largely by Apple's know-how.

20 years ago China was already surpassing every other country in cheap goods. Now they're the premier maker of *all* goods. It's good to see India beefing up its manufacturing base, even if it was borne out of mostly global economic circumstances and politics.

There are massive cultural differences between China and India, enough to make a lasting impact on mfg quality. Enough said.

My Apple stuff made in India and Vietnam work as well as the China made versions. Quality Control makes uniformity possible with many builders of the same product.

A vendor forApple that drops the QC ball is a former vendor in short order.

well the shift to india is expected; there's no news there.

The real news is apple dropping 7% market share yoy from 56 > 49%, and samsung increasing theirs from 23 > 31%.
That means apple's lead on samsung halved from 33 points to 18 percentage points. Wtf.

Yeah, like many others that said about Japanese cars. That’s a good point well taken.

Devices arriving scratched, dented, etc. #MadeInIndua
Everyone is quoting or talking about that one trial batch run which had few damaged cases. Things have progressed far beyond that now. India is best friends with Russia so will now Americans boycott/cancel iPhones and Androids and stop using mobiles all together? 🤡
In world politics, there are no permanent friends or enemies. Only strategic interests.

Atleast India doesn’t wish for destruction of US and wants to be a reliable business partner unlike certain other countries.

I don't understand. Where did the Chinese get this magical ability to assemble electronic components better than anyone else? I hope you don't believe the nonsense Tim Cook tried to push a while back claiming that only China has the skillset to put these bits of glass, metal, silicon and plastic together. The Chinese are not born with this knowledge; it was taught to them, and can thus be likewise taught to anyone else, including workers in Western nations. Costs is another issue entirely, but to claim that quality is best from China is rubbish.
Don’t forget China holds near global monopoly of rare earth refining capabilities, and China is more than willing to cut exports of the refined products to pressure the world. Besides, China pumps millions of university graduates every year, most of which today can’t even find a job. Being able to work in an assembly line is going to be a dream for many, however long it will last. I don’t know what Indian people can offer at this point, aside from having more young people proportionally than China does. Then, China and India has never been in their best terms either. I wonder how Apple can even acquire those raw materials needed to manufacture iPhone in such scale in India.
