iPhone, iPod Touch SDK Details March 6th

anyone one else think the coolest thing would be to use back to my mac on the iphone? screen sharing! would be nice :)

Why? Do you have any reason at all that the Silverthorne is suitable for an iPhone, or an improvement to the ARM processor that it is using now?

Exactly. While Silverthorne would be faster than the Arm-CPU is, it also consumes about 10 times as much power as the Arm does....

It's a code word for Exchange support

Yup! You nailed it. I thought it was pretty obvious when I read that. If that is not what it is I will be very surprised. Yay, I'm excited for the iPhone to literally explode into success and see the world flooded with the glory of Apple. Can't wait to get my 2nd Gen iPhone too, come on June :D

Hi, I'm steve jobs. You may remember me from such delays as "mac os 10.5" and "the mac book pro." well, today I'm here to present you with our latest delayed product, the iphone sdk.

I don't see what the big fuss about the delay is, I mean, it's only 6 days after the end of February...

It's not a big deal, you're right. Regardless, one would have a hard time making the claim apple hasn't shown a general decline in reliability since the iphone's release. It's really give and take for the consumer. Sure, I love my iphone cause I can now waste time on the internet even in the middle of nowhere, but at the same time they seem to be spreading themselves a little too thin oftentimes, which affects other releases, etc.

They have to charge for the apps otherwise no third party developer would write them in the first place. ipods are no longer a growth business for apple so selling apps is a new cash cow. And lucky us, they are finally giving this thing wings.

Now please can we have 3g in Australia???

Maybe microsoft will release a version of office for the iphone so they can maintain there monopoly on productivity software. They would do this even on a competitors platform just to keep everyone reliant on there office software only to discontinue it down the track forcing everyone to switch to windows mobile.

Uk

I will go absolutly sick and mental is they only release the applications (through iTunes) just for America! Like they do with everything else! America have has films for ages now and we still haven't gotten anywhere in the UK! It's just not fair, it's just bullying...

I have been waiting for this SDK for freakin' ages now, and I swear, I will personally fly over to Cupertino myself and scream at the iPhone team at head office!

Grrrrrrrrr!

Don't be embarrassed. My guess is that there are less then 1,000 people in the entire world who would have a use for this. Don't let the number of comments here fool you.

I am a developer and we have just completed a commercial game for the Macintosh. We are looking forward very seriously to the iPhone/touch SDK because we would like to develop for that platform, too.

I don't think I am one of "less than 1,000". There are a lot of people developing for the Mac and the iPhone will be similar. Even for a windows developer there is a lot of overlap (OpenGL etc.). Since developer tools for other platforms are freely available (look at the install DVD of your Mac), there are a lot of people who can use them - from hobbyists / students to large corporate teams.

I got in to an argument with an Apple store salesperson about this. I was asking them to justify why anyone in the UK would want an Apple TV.

Apparently consumers want to pay £300 for a machine that allows one to view photographs on a TV.

Is there anything else about the specific map on the invitation that is providing any other hints? Like should we suspect GPS support. Is the map of a real area that has a name that might be a hint?

If you look carefully, you will be able to see that the SDK will not allow you to use EDGE for your apps.

OK, you won't find THAT on the map, but...

Erm

I know that they said when they first announced that the SDK will be for the iPhone as wall as iPod Touch there is no mention of the Touch anywhere on this invite....

Am i just being a pedant?

I am aren't I...

Um, I would say your guess is out by a huge margin. The there are a lot of programmers out there who are interested in writing for the iPhone. Apple's developer tools for OS X have made it fairly easy to write Mac apps. If the iPhone SDK is similar, any hobbyist programmer who owns an iPhone will want to have a go. It doesn't mean that all of them will turn out great software, but it does mean that there will be a lot of people trying.

Yeah. I am 100% that besides the fact the phone is a phone and has a camera and bluetooth, the SDK will be for both.

Well, one of the apps available to jailbroken iPhones is a very nice VNC client, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it ported to be an 'official' app as well.

I still don't think the SDK will be available on March 6th...i think it will be pushed back again and they'll feed us some other BS, like here's Lotus notes and in June you'll have the SDK

Hi,

Why so many people think Apple will charge for every apps ?

Because their actions with the iPod touch tend to suggest they will?

Interesting. I must have missed where they gave an advance date for a MacBook Pro release.
