Notification light is a bad idea, especially for phones with OLED screens.

You don’t need an extra light diode to light up if missed calls or texts had appeared, the OLED screen should just work that way, if it should be there at all. Save 20*20 pixels for a light diode on one of the iPhone X ears, and turn the rest off. Boom

No notification light, but with an aw I don't have to carry my phone around, which to me is better than a notification light.

Not debating that The Apple Watch is cool, I have one myself. Having to spend several hundred dollars on another device doesn’t take the place of features on the phone though

Thankfully??? Having options my friend is always good (unless it is hard for someone to turn off led notifications, in which case I don't see why he should have a smartphone rather than a dumbphone in the first place...)

Btw, blackberries and androids and generally business oriented phones opt for notification leds. Let them be for those who want them, turn them off if you don't need them

One needn’t turn off what doesn’t exist.

Wtf. That's actually a good idea.

Why haven't phone manufacturers just used the OLED screen for the notification light? It'd be a little lower than normal, but it could work.

I believe LG did once. They had a second screen. A little top bar above the actual screen (very similar to Touchbar on a MacBook Pro) that was used for things like that.

It didn’t get all that well received and was soon ditched in their latest (2?) models.

fyi, samsung implemented it in their galaxy/note phones with edge lighting (i.e a thin strip at the edge lights up) when you have notifications. LED light is there as well

I think the notification LED light is brighter so it is easier to see. Why just have one when you can have both. :)
