iTunes sucks, so that must mean the iPhone is doomed....?

Yeah, not seeing the connection. Most iPhone users never actually plug their iPhone in to their computer, and even fewer actually use iTunes with any regularity. Most iPhone users just use Pandora, or buy songs from iTunes right on the phone itself.

Jeeze, can you say "melodramatic"...?

Some people are just complainers. A coworker complains there computer crashes, all the time. Well get up and do something about it. Don't hate the computer, it's all in you, to be an effective user.
Amen to that! It seems to me that when someone updates to a new iOS, the SECOND something goes wrong they immediately start whining and screaming that they have found a fatal bug that will destroy Apple forever. Of course a new X.0.0 version with a ton of new features is not going to be as stable as an OS that has been revised many times over like 7.1.2 was.

It's not as if Apple lacks the money to fix these problems. If it were a matter of money, you would have zero bugs in iOS. The problem is a lack of talent. It's why extremely gifted and talented software engineers make so much money, because they are in very short supply.

I am tired, worn out, have a 2 week old bricked iPhone 6.

Is there anything out there that just works?

It sounds like you've had a slew of things all go around at the same time.

Apple undoubtedly has things that they need to improve - they need to work on their specs, they need to make their updates smooth again, they need to do an overhaul of iTunes.

Imo, though, they're still miles better than the competition. Give yourself some distance from all the problems that you've been experiencing and then see how you're feeling. It's easy when frustrated for the tiniest flaws to become hugely magnified until we feel like a company is crap and falling apart.

the $925 price was your choice. You could have gotten a model with less memory or had the phone subsidized. This is not a valid complaint.

You didn't like ios 7. Again a subjective complaint. Maybe that was the time to switch to android.

Bloated iTunes? Subjective.

Corrupt music. You didn't list here what happened. Maybe user error?

Seems like you should try another platform.

So I take it we should expect one of these from Apple in the near future as it's flagship device? :D

Played around with that phone (the Blackberry Passport) in a Telus store today - I'm almost sold on it - and I can't believe I'm saying this, but the build quality trumps the 6 and 6+

Also was surprised to find out you can scroll using the trackpad - seemed really innovative and daring for Blackberry. Kind of wish Apple had like an offshoot brand, Apple Lite or something, where they released experimentation and different form factors outside of the standard iPhone line of phones.

Am the only one who ABSOLUTLY loves itunes? My library is still well and alive since TIGER (7 years). Never rebuilt it, and if I reistalled my system I just copied music folder with the same library. Never had one problem with it. After putting an SSD in my macs It became even better. Smooth and fast. I can't be the only one.

OP: that image is a bit dramatic no?

I do not agree Apple is the new Blackberry. Blackberry's demise was largely driven by the fact that they completely missed out on the app revolution. They had a great product but people wanted more. I haven't had a Blackberry in seven years (working for financial firm forced me to have one). Frankly, the fact that they have not gone totally bankrupt is what is most amazing.

I bet 99% of 6 and 6Plus users are VERY happy with their phone. Likely the most happy are not reading threads here or even know this place exists.

You people need to remember it is us who are not normal and most just buy the phone, use it and move on with life!

But not here!

I cannot imagine what middle aged women are doing with 8.02. I guess they call Apple.

Actually, most middle aged women iPhone users aren't having any of the issues you're having. Take of that what you will. But if this were a widespread, Apple-endemic issue, it would no doubt be as viral as videos of people purposefully bending their iPhones to show that you can bend a phone if you try hard enough.

I am sad that this phone is a steaming pile of garbage, and that iTunes truly is, a steaming pile of filth.

Again, this seems to be an issue isolated entirely to you. Maybe iOS and iTunes just isn't your thing. It's entirely possible, not everyone likes or has success with one platform universally. That doesn't mean the product or the company is bad or "filth" though.

Maybe it's time for you to cut your losses and get a Blackberry Passport.

Got home at 5pm and plugged into iTunes which is ritual when I get home to change for a dog walk.

Noticed I had 28GB of "Other" data in iTunes.

Tried to follow Internet posts on how to clear it, watched some videos - no dice to clear it.

Assumed it was stale MP3 data I tried to import over the past few days to take advantage of 128GB iPhone 6 $925 beast device.

Since I couldn't get rid of it without restoring, I figured I'd restore with ios 8.02 which was the final solution for stale Other data.

iOS 8.02 restore/install failed and I got a 1043 error<?>

Look at my backups through iExplore, all is well, not worried too much about losing data.

Have spent the past 6 hours trying to get out of Recovery Mode.

My iPhone 6 is now bricked for the most part. Genius Bar Soho appointment tomorrow at 2:40pm.

It amazes me that this phone is really unusable for what I want to do - smoothly and easily manage my own MP3 library with the 128gb space I now have. Irregardless of now having a bricked phone.

This was life with Blackberry, when we would whip out the BBSAK and hack our way out of the depths of Hardware Hell.

Whoever is in charge or works on the iTunes product, you should be ashamed.

I know one man development shops that release better tools than this.

It is an embarrassment.

Apple customer service is second to none. Be sure to press the genius hard and force them to correct all of your iTunes miserables.
(I never have problem syncing musics with iTunes by the way.)

You're not alone. I've done the same thing over two computers over the past nine or ten years. iTunes has never given me a problem. Of course you don't get some of the functionality you would with some third party apps, but all I need it to do is play music and allow me to access my iPhone, which it does just fine.

Yeah, my OP was simply meant in a lighthearted mood but the blackberry passport looks amazing to me as a productivity device. Something about that 1440x1440 screen just intrigues me. As soon as I heard about it I went over to crackberry to check out reviews and the forum on it. I'll see what happens when it finally comes to AT&T but for now I <3 my 5s too much to part with it.

A square display is definitely something different. But is it really practical? What are the benefits over a rectangular display (not judging, just want to know what other people think).

Because televisions and computer monitors are landscape because they conform more closely to the aspect ratio of human vision, while smartphones have portrait orientation displays because it's easier to hold, and because it's easier to view lists on them.

Computer and tablet screens are more square than rectangular for getting work done (which is the customer that blackberry is aiming for with the passport).

If someone wants to play flappy bird and watch netflix on their phone then the passport isn't for them. It's truly for the business professional that wants a 4:4 aspect ratio for browsing the web, looking at their emails, and editing spreadsheets.

What the hell you are talking about.

iOS 7 was way better than anything before it and iOS 8 is even better. Im not having any issues and Im perfectly satisfied with my iPhone 6.

In other words... You are bored to iOS. I was too while ago. Bought HTC One m8, used it for about half a year and then realized how much I missed iOS experience. Never going back to Android again.
