Idea: Apple iPhone should (IMO, of course) drop silly numbering “13” and even sillier “Pro” marketing. Instead, have something like “(+)” signify a premium option.

Lineup:

iPhone mini, iPhone, iPhone Max

More expensive line:

iPhone mini +, iPhone +, iPhone Max +

(+) = extra camera and camera features “plus” bigger battery. That’s it. Clear marketing and easy time for customers to know what’s going on. The phone would literally be thicker, have no camera bump and have an extra camera. Every other feature about the phones would be identical including color options. We’re talking a few hours additional battery. Say 33% more, at least.

This is something like Apple should do IMO.

What I personally would do is forgo the extra camera and simply have the thicker phone with noticeably longer battery life without camera bump signify the “(+)” optional extra. Add $129. “Go plus?”

Not going to happen. "Pro" is in to may product lines
  • iPhone Pro
  • iPad Pro
  • AirPods Pro
  • MacBook Pro
  • iMac Pro
  • Mac Pro
  • PowerBeats Pro
  • Beats Solo Pro
Future products
  • Apple Watch Pro
  • Apple TV Pro
  • HomePod Pro

I do wonder why many people are bothered by the number. It helps to instantly remember which one it was.
At least it is much easier for me to remember iPhone 7, than "iPhone (2016)" for example.

They aren’t going to get rid of the number.
It’s harder to market “replace your iPhone plus with the new iPhone plus” than “replace the 11 with the 12”; it’s also more confusing and difficult to clarify the model you’re talking about. What they’re going to do imo is switch to a yearly numbering system like Samsung.

Like cars they sell it as the M5, but the press calls it the 2021 M5 when reviewing it. But call it iPhone, not 2021 iPhone or iPhone 2021. In “About”.

They don’t number iPads. I think they’ll do it in the next couple of years. Get rid of the numbers that is. Ultimately we will see. The main point I would like to see though is a pro version of iPhone mini and ultimately the getting rid of the pro marketing sales concept entirely. I’d love an option for a thicker iPhone mini with 33% extra battery and no camera bump. Stick on a fairly slim case and lovely jubly.

I’m not naive though. Apple does some ridiculous things. I don’t expect them to suddenly offer options that make sense for their customers, and simplify their product lineup.
