Separately, this has zero to do with Trump, but watch stumpy fingers try to take all credit if it happens, as he uses his hands to hyponitise the masses.

Oh really?

This has nothing to do with slashing corporate taxes, cutting regulation and making an environment friendly to manufacturing?

This is going to be a loooooooooooooooooong 8 years with your guys making excuses every time manufacturers bring jobs back to the US.

but the candidates wouldn't want to live there because it's a pit.

People don't want to leave in these areas not because the place is a "pit" as you are suggesting. People have to leave because there are no jobs. If you think every single person in this world aspire to live in NY, LA or the peaceful Chicago, you have to re-think your concepts. Also, don't insult the place where millions of people came from.

The increase in demand for larger display panels makes local production a better solution than shipping from China to the U.S. market.
Except that display panels aren't what gets shipped from China to the U.S., it's complete devices. Thus, unless final assembly also comes to the U.S., that statement makes no sense. And given how labour-intensive assembly currently still is, I highly doubt that any significant smartphone or tablet assembly will be coming to the U.S. any time soon.

Oh yes, they said they would like to build in the middle of Pennsylvania. No way in gods green earth will they find 30 thousand much less than 50 thousand in the middle of that state.

As a Pennsylvanian sure they will. Plenty of people that want to work in the middle of PA. There's this little college in the middle of PA, maybe you've heard of it - Penn State. Has 46,000 students, employs about 26k people. I'd bet a lot of those graduates would be willing to stay in central PA if they had jobs.

But then again you're from the "Left Coast", the land of fruits and nuts.

And the largest economy along with work force and plenty of manufacturing plants.

Exactly. That had me all confused too. I'm not sure how this saves any money if the iPhones are still assembled in China. Maybe it will.

Apple & Foxcon building factory in US will bring ROBOTs to the US. Job creation will be minimal compared to what people are thinking
One thing for sure Apple prices will go up

Hmmm, I don't really know the numbers, but something like 60% of US citizens still live east of the Mississippi.
But that means that there are more fruits and nuts east of the Mississippi as well. How about the nut that fondled boys in Penn State for years.

Oh yes, I'm sure that they would love to spend many thousands of dollars getting degrees just to get a job that has nothing to do with their chosen profession at 10-12 bucks an hour.

Liberalism is the equivalent of a mental disorder....

Yes, it is, these morons are so terrified of Trump actually succeeding their bleeding out of their 'wherever' hoping for the country to collapse.

15% corporate tax anyone? This ain't hard folks.

The highly 'edumecated' coastal dwellers seem to think that controlling cow flatulence & regulating air conditioners in Arizona is more important than a $7B investment and 50,000 jobs.

With a 15% corporate rate, expect weekly announcements.

Keep pretending and diluting what you're actually witnessing and seeing with what you think you know or understand. Just brilliant! Please enlighten us with more of your wisdom.

As though a 15% corporate rate is not the basis for any of this. life is about to get pretty downright misereable for all those putting politics above all else.

Nobody talked about bringing jobs, plants, anything back to the USA. Trump gets elected, and suddenly the haters refuse to acknowledge the Trump factor.

News flash: the world is changing,

How exactly are you sure this has zero to do with Trump? I don't recall any rumors of US based iPhone component production prior to this election cycle. The article even infers it is related to Trump with the bit on US protectionism.

It's as if people are actually afraid Trump may do a few good things for the US.
Uh, because Trump JUST took office two days ago, and has implemented ZERO trade policies so far. Giant companies don't throw together plans for 7 billion dollar manufacturing sites based on heresay, in a matter of days. These plans have likely been in the works for months. And Tim Cook has stated publicly for years that he would like to do more manufacturing in the US and that Apple was exploring possibilities where it might make sense. This is clearly one of those possibilities.

trump is trying to be the "Peoples Champion"

We all know he treats 'work people' with distain - look at those builders and workmen and women (did I mention women, sorry trump) who became bankrupt due to trump not paying his bills in Atlanta.

He is taking America back to the 1817s.

He conveniently, for his OWN GAIN, pretends that he missed the chapter in business books on 'Globalisation'.

Quote
"Though it creates winners and losers, the broad consensus among economists is that free trade (Globalisation) is a large and unambiguous net gain for society."

trumps plan for America and the World, purely to make him look like "the good guy" in the USA, will never work.

Its 2017 not 1817

Like "The Wall" this will never happen.

Protectionism comes down to asking all Americans to subsidize the employment of a relative few Americans by paying more for the products they buy. It's just another form of welfare.

News Flash: Apple has been hinting at this for years.

And if moving manufacturing here results in big price increases, people will hate Trump even more than they do now.

They should put this in coal country and train the people there on 21st century jobs rather than 19th century ones. Win/win.

Except my understanding is those coal jobs Trump promised to bring back make well over $30/hr., and allows kids to drop out of high school at 16 and get such jobs without ever needing a high school diploma, as they will work them for the rest of their lives, buy homes, and raise families.

The Foxcon jobs won't pay anywhere nearly as much, even if workers are retrained. So it's not an acceptable substitute. It's my understanding Trump is bringing back the good jobs for those people.

Hmmmm;
Since 1681 when William Penn was given the land that bares his name, the taxes have been quite high. As of January 2017, Pennsylvania has the highes fuel tax in the country at 58 cents per gallon on gasoline, and a WHOPPING 74 cents on diesel. And what do the people get for all that tax? Toll I-76 costs over 175 dollars for the entire state. I-80 is total garbage, and the new bridges aren't even flat and smooth transition. Most of the two lane roads are so terrible that the speed limit is 45 miles per hour.

Now regarding a 7B investment, I do think that is good, just someplace like Texas is a much better location. Specifically around San Antonio.

1. These factories will largely be robotic.

I cannot believe you think that the cost of labor in the US is anywhere near as low as elsewhere.
Labor cost doesn't matter if it is a small amount of total cost of product. Especially if they make most of the iPhones made in the USA and sell them in the USA.
