It doesn’t look like the alleged brightness problem is a actual problem for mini’s as a whole. You have one member here who doesn’t even own a mini much less handled one making definitive statements that are starting to worry some other people. Said member is merely offering his opinion most of the time, even though he likes to reply as if what he says is fact that cannot be refuted in any way.

As someone who bought the mini, I am not really concerned with the current software bug. Apple will get it fixed and that will be that. This isn’t the first time a phone has been released with a problem found after the release. Each release there has been something that Apple has to address. That happens on the other side of the tracks as well.

You don’t seem to read a lot here. People are complaining. I’m providing them the solution. I haven’t asked people to complain about their Minis. They are complaining on their own.

I already told you that there’s no Apple store around where I live, and if you’d pay a bit of attention you’d know that I own both an SE1 and a mini, and I have therefore actually performed the test myself. I’m interested in how the comparison turns out for other users.

I answered above. You might need to PM people who own both SE and Mini. I don’t think many will respond to a forum post in the middle of a thread.

That's a show stopper for me; particularly if the 5G sim won't be swap-able back with the 4G only phone. I've always used at least 2 phones by simply swapping sims. Please let me know if you can use the new SIM in your old phone.
So I went to a handy authorized Verizon dealer to move my number. They didn't have a SIM programmer that the corporate stores have for the at least for the older cards. I'm on hold with customer service now. Sorry to say, 5G cards are not compatible with 4G phones and vice versa. The guy I talked to wasn't eSim proficient but he did say he had seen the same number on two phones. He thought that was a mistake that happened while transferring from one eSim to another one.

Apart from the case issue all is well. Previously had the XS.

One thing I’m struggling with is the battery, but I think it might be too early to judge. The first day it drained really quick, but that was due to installations etc. Today I charged it in the morning, got it to 96%, took it out for photos, general surfing the web and messaging, and tonight it’s sitting at 34%. With the XS I used to get 2-2.5 days with the same behaviour. Will the first few weeks be like this until the phone optimises to the way I use the phone, or is this my future? I love the small size but battery life is bothering me.

I read a lot. You make pronouncements about a product you haven’t used based on what you have seen from other past phones. When someone says the screen isn’t as bright etc. I have seen you immediately say its defective and return it. You didn’t even bother doing common sense trouble shooting. You have a bad habit of constructing your opinion (often times) as fact and that is what sets alarms off for many new members and those who are not tech savvy.

And when confronted in any way, you insult people and try to talk down to them as if you know it all. I have seen this behavior repeatedly on here.

It’s one thing to try and help people in a constructive manner that walks through important trouble shooting steps, which may lead to finding a solution that may have been user error or ignorance at times. It is quite another to make definitive statements alarming people into looking for problems that may not be there.

How did you get it for $30 less? I thought Verizon charges a $20 or $40 activation/upgrade fee? When I tried to buy the Verizon version outright from Best Buy they were going to charge me an activation fee of $40 so I just bought the sim free version from Apple for $729 which saved me $10 and I’m not locked to Verizon for 2 months.
I'm on hold to customer service now. If I switch to another carrier it will save me $400 something on the handset. Otherwise I might do what you suggest.

Yes. When I know that much I won’t spend time explaining it to every person who questions me.

Simple solution:

Go to an Apple Store. Test this on 5-10 Apple OLED iPhones. Not just 1 or 2. You’ll have your answer. I have nothing to discuss with you until you do that.

It usually takes a few days at most. Not weeks. For me it usually stabilises in 24 hrs or at most 48 hrs max.

Just curious how everyone purchased their mini. I was thinking of going to an Apple store here to see it in person and compare the colors, but my friend told me that he was just there and was turned away as they are not allowing anyone to enter without an appointment. There is no information regarding this on Apples website.

I purchased mine online, but I can tell you that the local stores here are not letting anyone in without an appointment. I think this is different in other parts of the country (US), but I’m in TN and the GA, TN, AL stores aren’t letting folks just walk in.

Also to be clear. I don’t think this is widespread. Probably affects a small percentage of customers (probably a lot larger percentage than you think, but still small compared to the millions sold). A replacement is a very easy option.

Right my journey is complete. I had an 11PM, which is a great phone but I was just too tired of carrying around such a big phone. I moved to the regular 12 a couple of weeks ago to try that out and have also received the 12 Mini today. The Mini is perfect for me - so glad I’m back to a phone I can comfortably hold without any of the aches and pains.

Regular 12 is boxed up ready to be dropped off to a UPS pick up point tomorrow morning, and 11PM will be on eBay early this week.

Apple Stores catch 22 situation: Need an appointment to go inside. Cannot book one in advance through the Apple online, function is disabled.

A catch-22 is a paradoxical situation from which an individual cannot escape because of contradictory rules or limitations. The term was coined by Joseph Heller, who used it in his 1961 novel Catch-22. An example is: In needing experience to get a job..."How can I get any experience until I get a job that gives me experience?"

This is only on the first full charge, but I’ve already determined battery life is great for my typical use. I’m usually about 3 hrs total SOT daily on average. Some days get into the 4-5 hour range but that’s pretty rare. Currently sitting at 52%. A lot of this was on 4G, I have 5G turned off because I don’t care about it. Can’t wait to be told this is terrible battery life cause I’m not pacing 10 hrs SOT.

I’ll update this later after my phone switches to Dark Mode automatically and my low power shortcut automation kicks in, which is set to turn on at 25%.

Thank You for posting this. Is this on Wifi or 4G?

1 day in and still torn. I love the size factor, still a shame I can't reach the top without some grip adjusting, but the main problem is really the text size specially when scrolling it's just not as comfortable as say an iPhone XS. I know I can adjust the size, but feels overblown that way. I really don't know what to do

Tried Zoom?

Which phone are you coming from? Was that better?
It’s honestly really hard to say because I’m using my Mini in a way I typically wouldn’t today to try and push it, relative to my use and what “pushing” it would mean. I was coming from an iPhone 11 Pro. It’s definitely worse, but not even remotely enough to where I’ll be thinking about it moving forward.
