Do you feel a brighter display will be very useful? I have the 14 PM and haven’t found a situation where I couldn’t see the display in sunlight.

I would like to see a modern version of the SE.
In sunny states, such as California and Florida, a brighter display would be useful in capturing video. I spent a few years photographing at skate parks and I would almost always use the camera's viewfinder to record video because even the best displays weren't enough to deal with the sunshine.

No, that doesn’t even make sense. By that logic you could say a 60 Hz display is an artificial limitation or not having titanium is an artificial limitation. It’s a cheaper component.
Uh no, because a 120Hz display or titanium are not cheap upgrades, they are very, very substantial, modern features and add a lot of cost.
USB 3 on the other hand was standardised in 2008, and mass-adopted by 2012. It's not cutting-edge to put it into a portable device in 2023.

Not to mention it's something they put in the vast majority of their CPU designs (possibly all of them except low-end iPhone and Watch?), so the economies of scale alone would surely make it practically free to include it? I'm guessing here, obviously I'm not a chip designer, but yeah, I suspect this is an artificial differentiator.

Regardless of the price all of these are hardware upgrades, rather than some artificial limitation. It’s likely Apple choose to save money on a component that the vast majority of consumers will never use so they can spend it on another more meaningful component.

Just checked on the apple website. The iPhone 13 Mini is now discontinued/not available anymore.

That destroys my hopes for a 16 Mini or 17 Mini or a general refresh every few years. I think if apple would be planning to have a 3-year or even 4-year refresh cycle for the Mini, they would keep it in the lineup until then. Or not?

So sad.

It's really hard to say. It's possible at some point they could reshuffle the lineup sizes again, like they did going from the 11 to the 12.

While I think the 13 mini size and weight are just about perfect, I still miss having the telephoto lens and ProMotion display of the Pro models. I'd have gladly accepted the telephoto lens instead of the ultrawide, but clearly they want to relegate that "feature" to Pro models only.

At this point, I hope that the 16 or 17 series gets a total rework, and they make it like the 11 series where the smallest and largest are Pros and only the mid-size is non-Pro. Not to mention, a 5.8" Pro would be a reasonable compromise between Pro features and size/weight, in my view.

Based on the rumors it seems all iPhones are going to get bigger. 6.1” SE, 6.3” standard/pro , and 6.9” Plus/Pro Max.

You’re going to need to decide between a “huge” phone or iOS. We all know you’ll pick iOS though, right? lol
I am not sure what I will pick once my iPhone 13 mini reaches its end of life.

It’s not that there would be tons of Android Minis available to chose from. If there’d be an Android with the size of an iPhone mini, I’d definitely switch back, but it doesn’t look like this will be the case.

Even the rumours of another SE are suggesting a 6.1" screen - so even that model (currently 4.7") will bloat out, if it happens at all.
Apple could always change their minds as to sizing - as they did with intro of Mini - but I won't hold my breath. Just gonna keep my 12 Mini running as long as possible and see where Apple is at when it goes up in a flash, sparks, flames and a mess of chemical smoke.

They seemed to also have removed the Mag Safe Battery pack from the online store. I realize it likely was an expensive, niche (I have one) product with a Lightning port but still surprised about this timing. Especially since it can be used with any MS capable phone and recent AP case could also be charged whilst resting on top. Or did I just not search properly?

I suspect an updated Mag Safe Battery pack product with an USB-C port will soon be available as an alternative

Yes, perhaps. It was initially designed to fit the 12/13 Mini and now that the 13 has been discontinued, I can't help thinking the demand of fitment to larger (batteries) phones will be even more niche. Especially due to its high price. Off course it also makes sense to just use the one USB-C cable if iP15 is piggy back on the MS battery pack. I've got a feeling it's bon voyage though...we shall see.

My favorite phone I ever had was a Samsung Galaxy Young 2 Duos. I loved it because of the small 3 1/2" screen size, and the light weight, and hated everything else about it. I still have it and use it sometimes. This review sums that phone up nicely https://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/samsung-galaxy-young-2 .

I think the days of 5" or smaller screens is over.

I have similar feelings towards my HTC Desire S. Great phone, 3.5”. Just google maps is ultra slow on it now. Not sure why, as when it was new, all was good and what I need google maps for hasn’t changed since then. But I guess, such is technical progress.

Just visited my local Apple Store (Hong Kong). To my surprise, the 13 mini is still on display and available for sale. I wasn’t expecting that as it has disappeared from Apple’s website like everywhere else. It is still priced the same however. I asked one of the staff if they would stop selling it when the 15 arrives in store and she said no, just the 12s will be discontinued.

Are they an Apple Store, or an Apple Authorized Reseller?
