In a van down by the river
I thought it would be interesting (for current mini users) and also potentially beneficial for potential mini buyers to see what the average “Screen on Time” for the week is for mini owners.

I got a pop up on my watch a few minutes ago, stating my SoT daily average for the week was 27 minutes 5G.

***Please state whether your use is WiFi, LTE or 5G.

*** Stats are supposed to be for charging once day. If you charged more than once day, even if it wasn’t a full charge, please note that in your stats reply.

4:30 average daily.

Edit oops that’s for my iPhone 12 not mini

Charged overnight with 5w charger and back on charge with around 25/30% left.

5G on auto, 3 network in the UK, mix of cellular for the most part and WiFi in the evenings.

I think is pretty important to specify if the use is wifi only, lte or 5g.

Definitely. Personally would like to see LTE only results. Personally I’m good when I iMessage and text and regular web browsing on LTE. But it’s when I start streaming and using other taxing apps it starts to go down.

I felt like I was having a battery drain issue this past week then yesterday I used the Mini hardcore texting literally for hours all night and it lasted like crazy for me.

Like it has a mind of it's own.

Daily average was 3hr 30min, mostly on WiFi.

After a week or so, this is my favourite iPhone in a very, very long time.

I get 5-6.5 hours from 100-20% very consistently on wifi.

if im out all day with no wifi it can get down to 3hrs on 5g + auto brightness. (again 100-20%)

dark mode everything, dark wallpaper, dark lock screen
brightness rarely over 50%

I honestly can't tell a difference on battery life on wifi + under 50% brightness vs my 8+ or X. But once I am on 5g and outside I definitely notice a big drop in battery life. IMO it really seems 5g kills standby time for some reason. I definitely notice dumb things like---

be out and about, @ 80%
use phone for maybe 5 mins @ max brightness, phone tucked away, 2 hour later,
check back, be at 75%

I 100% believe its just 5g killing the battery.

TBH if I was traveling or vacation, I would definitely just switch 5g off. Other than that, ive had to make no changes to my use.

also: I am in a 5g area and I honestly CANNOT tell any difference in real life "speed". I guess if you are in a rush to download a movie for a flight or car ride it will 100% matter. otherwise.... it's a gimmick.

also--

I mostly use a wireless charger which seems fine.

but yesterday I used the usb c to lightning that came with the phone and although it charged the phone much faster than my wireless charger, the phone got kinda hot.

does anyone else have this issue using the regular wired charger?

What charging brick did you use?

It's worth pointing out that not all 5G is identical. There are some implementations that are more focused on resolving congestion issues than pure throughput.

My iPhone 12 mini shows 5G at home and I'm using a discount prepaid MVNO. Signal strength isn't any higher than before (the T-Mobile towers haven't moved), I'm just connecting to a different transceiver on the same tower.

I'm on a limited usage connection anyhow so I have cellular data turned off for a lot of streaming apps as well as the App Store.

I am averaging 2 hours 43 minutes per day of Screen On Time. Mostly just at home using WiFi. I have 5G turned off, so when I am out I am using LTE only. But my usage when away from home is light to nonexistent besides looking up a quick website or taking a picture or two.

I am usually getting close to two full days on a charge, ending that 2nd day with around 20% charge.
