they made life super inconvenient by removing it, but since it was removed from itunes, and is now part of a different function years later, this *is* new. and a very welcome addition.

i might actually care about the various ways i can customize a home screen now that it can be done way more efficiently
"No" it's not ;) It's an Apple we were really really stupid, we hoped you wouldn't notice, here have it back as long as we can call it new! Apple is an ecosystem so moving it from a-b doesn't count......no it really doesnt!!

What are the use cases for this mirroring? Would love to hear how you all use it. I haven't really found a need for it.

This feature is talked about but I find this to be boring. So what, that you can mirror your phone on your computer? You can't look at your phone without the computer? I just don't see the big deal with mirroring. Give me a reason why this is news.

everybody's use cases will be different of course, but for me this will be useful for medication reminders that only occur on my phone. I''ll be able to take my meds and cancel the reminder from my desk, instead of stopping what I'm doing, and walking across the room to log my meds in the Health app on my phone. Seeing how this is almost a nightly occurrence this will save me a lot of time and energy.

Yup, and same for me in my case with how I use MyFitnessPal

For the life of me, I for some reason cannot login with my Apple ID to MFP on a computer, but on the app, no problem

Now thanks to iPhone Mirroring, I can keep my iPhone anywhere in my home, open up the iPhone Mirroring app, and then get onto MFP or whatever app I need to access on my phone that I can't on my MacBook Air

Why do you like it there? I've experimented with it on the left and just can't get used to it.
Because reading long documents or websites gets the most vertical space. Putting it on the right doesn't trigger the dock opening. I'm also right handed so naturally lean to the right where everything is located. Left just feels weird lol.

Sadly, that's not the Case.
I am just saying that "back in the day" we could sit and fiddle with iTunes on our mac and get our iPhone Home Screens just the way we wanted without having to get stupid with "Thumbs and Fingers" because it gets tricky moving them around.
Now I am sure I'll have much better luck using my mouse for the delicate movements needed...

They never should've split all the great features iTunes had. It worked beautifully, but now were stuck with all separated apps and years without setting your iPhone apps layout from a Mac.

Always to the left because desktop files stick to the right.
I've had my dock on the left almost since I first got a Mac. Small icons, very narrow.

Laptop screens are too "rectangular" already; I don't want more height taken away by the dock, and I don't like the auto-hide option as the dock wiggling in and out of view irritates and distracts me.

That’s exactly the reason for me although I have mine hidden. The worst thing though is when I add an extra screen and have my iPad next to it on the left (continuity) and it’s almost impossible to click it and not run the pointer into my iPad screen.

the only device you'll ever need provided you could only have one device.

Disclaimer - I have all of these devices. SmartPhone - Tablet - Desktop - Streaming Box(es) - Smart Speakers - Smart Watch - smart MR glasses ...
What I use most in my job and privately is my iPP - the iPhone is a niche filler when it needs to be more portable but the current iPhones are already far to big for my taste - an AW plus a iPad mini is the prefect setup IMHO

Nevertheless the iPhone is always with me - mostly as a radar warner in the car
"...provided you could only have one device."

Yeah well, I could also make up non-existent provisos to justify my suboptimal choices.

TBF - give the iPad macOS, and then you have quite an amazing device. As it is now though, I wouldn't use it if someone gave it to me for free.

Without a physical keyboard and it's a joke to me. With Apple's add on keyboard thingo, it is now heavier than my 16" MBP. Why, simply because the iPad has it's entire weight sitting behind the screen, so the keyboard has to have a heavy counter weight to stop it toppling over. Or you could choose a lighter weight aftermarket option, but still doesn't compare with the convenience of the permanently attached MBP/MBA keyboard. And, um, still has the joke that is iPadOS.

iPadOS being a joke is deliberately a joke, required to prevent sideloading, and thus all apps you use come with a 15/30% tax payed to Apple, a $multi-billion rort. Only legislation will peel this rort out of Cook's cold dead hands.

Cook can't remove sideloading from macOS, as it would kill 90% of the market for the Mac, and all the Mac users would abandon it for Windows or Linux. In fact, it would probably set up a mad rush of furious competition to build a similar OS to the old macOS.

cutting out the argument out of context is of course much better

Did you try it at least once to operate macOS on an iPad?
I did several years supporting family and friends from my iPad Pro 11" while traveling via TeamViewer. You can fully operate the Mac from the iPad. It is horrible to pin point these ultra small GUI oriented items and navigate - while traveling in the car ( bot being the driver of course ) - we had to drive to a parking lot where I could precisely navigate through the menus and help my mother. No thx - that's not suitable for a Finger-GUI - the iPad is a touch GUI and it serves this purpose very well IMHO

Without a physical keyboard and it's a joke to me. With Apple's add on keyboard thingo, it is now heavier than my 16" MBP.

Is that true? My iPad PRO 11.1" weight some 440 g and the keyboard additional 500 g - just had a look at the 16" MBP - it weights 2160 g - so even the 12.9" iPad Pro including keyboard will be almost 1 kg lighter. But who cares about facts?

Why, simply because the iPad has it's entire weight sitting behind the screen, so the keyboard has to have a heavy counter weight to stop it toppling over.

Would you rather have a smaller trackpad? Of course it's a compromise - just get a different keyboard - there different versions from other brands available.

Or you could choose a lighter weight aftermarket option, but still doesn't compare with the convenience of the permanently attached MBP/MBA keyboard. And, um, still has the joke that is iPadOS.

What's a joke? The finger oriented GUI? I royally disagree Mr.!
Try to use any modern advanced OS via TeamViewer or any other remote software and you'll quickly understand why the OS iss designed like it is.
Could it be better? Sure - I guess Apple is working on it but it takes a lot to make a finger operating system more useful - you can't replace macOS with iPadOS but you can do similar things when traveling in this handheld device and that's as good as it needs to get for me.

You're not up to date Sir ;)

Different device - different needs - in case the iPad is not for you go on.
In the meantime I have compiled a set of tests how fast the new M4 iPad PRO really is - IMHO amazing
