ZOMG it's an iPhone Nano.

No, you see, it's just a scaled down image of the iPhone. There WILL NOT be an iPhone Nano. Congratulations on learning how to use photoshop idiots.

Don

I'm not saying your wrong but that'd be funny if they came out with one since your so passionate about them not making one

heres a 2 minute mockup, notice the scribbled out locked camera in the bottom right of UI.

Don't you just love how materialistic apple is becoming,
what's next, iRattle?

I agree. It's not like you see anyone here guaranteeing that there is going to be a Nano, just people explaining why it would make business sense for Apple to release such a product.

On the other hand there seem to be many people here guaranteeing that there will be no such thing, at MacWorld or anytime this year.

I would propose that the people who have vociferously guaranteed that there will be no iphone nano type product this year have their access to macrumors blocked via IP address for a year as punishment if they turn out to be wrong.

With their guarantee that is. ;)

That's the thing though; it doesn't make business sense ...

It makes perfect sense as long as the iPhone Nano is directed to the mass market where most people use normal basic phones and consider the iPhone 3G the smartphone in the iPhone family.

Nah it really doesn't because if the device doesn't take advantage of Apple's iTunes/App Store infrastructure it wouldn't be worth the R&D in the long run.

Now how could an iPhone Nano will not take advantage of the iTunes/App Store infrastructure? Don't give us that bunch of screen size too small bullcrap for apps again, everyone knows that those things can be scaled down. Refer to the keyboard thread in this forum for more info.

Many people here are arguing the nano will just be a regular phone, so it's not the screen size but the concurrent UI that would hold it back (this is of course based on the stuff people on this site are just making up). I'm just responding in kind to what people are making up. However, to your point, it's not as simple as scaling down the screen, you'd have to completely reconfigure the touch screen, because the way it works now the touch areas would be too large for a smaller iPhone to function properly (in terms of how applications run). So it's actually a lot more complicated than you think, never mind the fact that it simply isn't practical to have a smaller screen and smaller buttons. I mean, people bitch about the keyboard as it is, just wait until you can hit two buttons with one finger at the same time. It's all a load of BS I'm afraid. If, on the other hand, you're proposing a nano as half of the iPhone (vertically) then all I can say is how would they ever manage the loss of half of the screen - especially since it's the part where you see what you type. It'll make portrait texting virtually impossible, and web surfing a total bitch. Sorry, but the iPhone is the size it is for a plurality of specific reasons, and besides the "cute" factor of a nano there really is no practical sense to it at all.

By that logic Apple shouldn't continue introducing any portables other than the ipod touch and iphone line.

And yet Apple continues to release products like the new nano, shuffle, etc, which have no app store integration.

You also forget that Apple makes $$ on sale of videos/movies through iTunes which surely would be supported.

Apple will always 'wow' us with their products, just like magic (And yes, they always 'miss' out something). IF there is ever an iPhone Nano, Apple would have already created their target consumers and how it will integrate with the App Store.

I really doubt we will see an iPhone Nano.

But it does have me thinking. Could a new version of the iPhone that is slightly smaller be introduced?

That would make sense.

An iPhone Nano, no.

A smaller iPhone, possibly.

You don't get the idea of 'nano'. When Apple says Nano, it can be all sizes that are smaller that the iPhone, so therefore you are contradicting yourself.

Just out of curiosity why on earth would anyone want a smaller touch screen? Do you like scrolling and not being able to see as much text? Do you like watching landscape videos on a screen that isn't the right scale? I just don't get it. What is the appeal?

Most of the non-Apple touch screen phones that fared well in the market like the Nokia 5800 or the Samsung Instinct had smaller screens. Also because of the economy, I think people rather spend their money wisely and buy a normal phone considering most people don't use all smartphone features. It's weird but just like the iPod Mini, people grumbled outloud denying speculation Apple would come out with such a product, but sales were growing strong and now the iPod Nano has the most sold because of its cheap price compared to other iPods and its good features.

Not at all.

If you read my post, my point was that there will be no Nano.

What folks are calling the Nano may be a redesigned iPhone 3G which just happens to be smaller.

I do not believe that we will see two different sized iPhone devices, such as the iPhone and iPhone Nano, at the same time.

Of course if I am wrong, I will eat my crow while it's warm. :)

You'll never stop comparing the iPhone/Touch to the iPod line of products, will you?

Oh well .... t-minus an hour or something until this silly talk is over with. Until the summer of course! Then Christmas! Then next January! Then next summer! Then next ...

Are you kidding? I bet it won't even be a month until 5 threads pop up about the nano again. Some rumors, no matter how stupid, simply never die. I suspect this will be one of them. :(
