It's not that people don't care.

It's just not real fun to be preached to.

If people want green products -- go make one and let the market decide what people would prefer.

I take your point.

I'm off to bed now.

Goodnight chaps

I do believe that company's should start trying to become more green, but the problem isn't with the companies, its with the government and its economy. Where our anger and passions should be directed is towards the government to start making stiffer conditions to be met and making "green" products more affordable and available.

The reason companies only do what they have to or a little more, is because of profit margin. Going greener will actually cost more money at this point in time. So if it costs the company more money, than ultimately it costs the consumer more money. Obviously that isn't good because then fewer people buy the product.

And since the U.S. is truly ran by is economy, gradual change to becoming greener requires a great deal of patience. We must simply do what we can, when we can. Eventually green products will become available, but I promise it won't be at the expense of the economy.

On reflection I was being more than a little unfair to Apple. I suppose they are no worse than most companies and better than many. I actually like their products and own two mac computers and an iPod. I have no real gripe with them. I suppose, even thought it makes little sense, I expect more of them than I would than from some company like microsoft and so am more critical; in this case I recognise unfairly.

Anyway apologies to all concerned for a somewhat intemperate and ill considered series of posts and I hope Apple will continue to increase its environmental efforts.

you're being very reasonable.

I probably disagree with everything you hold dear, but I really don't think you were out of line.

The whole "green" thing is an evolving market and if you particularly identify with one company then it is understandable that you might expect more from them than from others.

Probably a little like having two kids, one who is very very smart and well behaved and the other...not so much. It's easy to lower expectations for the latter and raise them for the former.

It's a very complex dynamic. What bothers me is when people use environmentalism as an excuse for a power grab on people's freedoms.

Oh dear. I really do despair. Lets just leave it. I bought Apple. I like their products. I will continue to do this. I really do hate some of the attitudes displayed by my fellow customers though. Lets not ask Apple to show any responsibility to the planet ( or their customers ) because it is dreadful sin to question them or criticise them in any way.

I am beginning to understand how you people voted the amazing Bush into office

Your name says it all. You are truely a "Willie" I do not think I have read a more horrible thread topic anywhere and your responses are rediculous. Now an iphone battery conversation has been made political. -News flash buddy, all politicians suck, the sooner you learn that, the faster you will quit blaming Bush for your problems and realize you just have to deal with them and with phone batteries ruining the world.

You may want to read the entire thread before piling on. The OP has graciously apologized for the tone of his posts and restated himself, and posted as such about an hour before yours.

okay how about this...

Ahhhh!!! I hate Apple!!! they suck!!! and I own an iPod, iPhone, and Macbook Pro and they all suck. everything they do is evil....

:p;)

I wonder how much fossil fuel was used to generate power for the computers of people reading this thread?

I'm concerned about the environmental impact of our disposable electronics, but I still buy them. Maybe some day we'll have microchips made of wheat.

The "will it blend?" iPhone video really creeped me out, when the black puff of toxic made-in-China smoke billowed out of the blender.
