Help!

ok.. now.
after the stupid, STUPID long process i just went through to create this forum account.. i'm ready for anything.

but i'm having the SAME EXACT problem.

AFTER the latest update:

iphone syncs with itunes, but does not give an autoplay window when connected by usb.

i looked over my devices and there was no MTD or MTP like jingles stated.
although jingles you seem very avid to have this problem solved as well. so thank you.
but i did uninstall and then plug in the apple usb device.. that did nothing.

i want to upload photos! anybody have any new ideas? i'll let you all know if i figure it out.. but outside research would be much appreciated.

What I tried- everything...

I spent thhe whole day resetting my phone (3.1...), and after the reset it pops w/auto-play (after I take a picture), but when I restore from backup all my apps, itunes, camera roll (over 600), it doesn't appear... What's worse my laptop can't restore the phone, and I have to drag the backups to a different PC (destop) to restore it, but I digress...

So far I tried my iPhone on XP (sp2, x86/32-bit), Vista (x86/32-bit), and three different Win7 installations (all x64), but to no avail. The iPhone (3G) pops after restting it, but not after I restore it (sync my data from backup).

I am considering taking the iPhone into the Apple store, and talk to a Genius (Ha!), but I predict it will be a colossal waste of time. I think the hardware (iPhone 3G) must be good, because it works after resetting the phone (and taking one picture).

It seems like there is an incompatibility with iPhone 3Gs and 3.1... that is affected by restoring my camera roll (and other app/data, mp3's, etc.)

I have tried basically everything imaginable, including unplugging/replugging, power-cycling, un-sync'ing all MP3's (22GB), all to no avail.\

Lastly my iPhone is not jailbroken...

Please help!

new iPhone, same problem

I went to the apple store today, and they gave me a new phone, and it didn't solve the problem- as soon as I restore my backup, the iPhone stops showing up in My Computer, and I can't tranfer my pictures off the stupid phone. My plan now is to purchase CopyTrans Photo to snarf them off the device, then reset the iPhone, and finally not restore it from backup, but just sync my apps and music. (Not sure what else I will loose...)

okay, I made an account just to post this on here.

i've had this problem for MONTHS with my Iphone 3gs. I'd say 30% of the time it recognizes it as a drive, and 70% it only will open Itunes and that's it. Sometimes I'd spend forever plugging and unplugging the phone just to see if by chance it'd read it as a drive.

i did something similar to what jingle described. I went into my device manager under control panel. under "portable devices" it showed a device called Apple something and it showed it wasn't working with a triangle symbol with an exclamation mark on it. I right clicked it and clicked "uninstall"

Then I plugged in my iphone and it reinstalled the drivers after a couple minutes, and then my computer recognized it again!! maybe you have to uninstall and reinstall the drivers every time it isn't working. not sure, just glad to finally get my pictures!
