Reuters reports that an AT&T executive confirmed that the iPhone will be arriving "at the end of June".

"Our expectations are good. Our testing has been good," said AT&T Chief Operating Officer Randall Stephenson. "The iPhone is on target to launch in June."

This is consistent with Apple's previous statements regarding the iPhone's progress. Apple announced that iPhone was on target on April 12th:

iPhone has already passed several of its required certification tests and is on schedule to ship in late June as planned

This is despite recent claims that the iPhone was running into issues.

This is good news for those of you who can actually buy an iPhone -- ie. Americans. Not that I have anything against Americans (luv u guys!) but Apple seem to have forgoten that they have other markets that contribute a lot to the financial performace of Apple as well -- and I am not just talking about the iPhone, I am talking about existing hardware and software. Not only are we all waiting for the new updated machines, Leopard , iLife and the like, the availability and release schedule of the 'bump' products (ie small upgrades) is slower in many non-US markets. If the iPhone hits some sudden snag then there is nothing to fall back on at the moment (unless something cool is announced at the WWDC and available immediately) -- in the US or elsewher for that matter.

Bottom line, good news the iPhone release is on target, but what about the rest of us...and more importantly what about the Mac?

I guess you could say what about 'the computer for the rest of us'

[/RANT]

So here's the year's sequence of exciting stories on the iPhone ship schedule:

1. "iPhone expected in June."

2. "iPhone may be riddled with problems, for all anyone knows! As a result, iPhone now expected in June."

3. "iPhone expected in June."

Apple just released a ton of new software days ago, and 8-core pro Macs shortly before that. Other Macs are presumably coming--likely next month with Intel's Santa Rosa.

Meanwhile, OS X has been delayed 4 months, with progress and new builds continuing to be released nonetheless.

We don't know what Macs (or secret OS X features) may be coming along, but it sure doesn't sound like any "forgetting" to me. Rather, it sounds as though the iPhone is an OS X product (known fact) and thus used some of the same talent that could have kept Leopard moving more quickly.

A shame, but hardly any indication of Apple neglecting the Mac. That's a popular cry with little evidence, and has been for years. Some things are late, some are early (like the Intel transition--a HUGE Mac-centric project) and some are on time. Late makes headlines, but it doesn't mean the sky is falling.

As for finances, Apple seems to be doing quite well, and their long-term plans look even better. Mac sales are rising EVEN during the temporary spike of PC sales related to Vista's release: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/04/18/apples_mac_sales_rock_steady_despite_vista.html

I just really hope the iPhone ships in June. Can you imagine if Apple has to delay it's launch. There might be riots...on MacRumors at least. Something I won't be looking forward too.

Isn't it amazing how Apple manages to keep the iPhone in the headlines when, truth be told, there really isn't anything new to report on it?

One thing is for sure--Apple's marketing department is worth every penny of its payroll.

Now we can watch for rumors about the exact day of release, and argue about whether "late June" means the last Tuesday of June (the 26th), the last weekday of June (the 29th), or the last day of June (the 30th).

A certain about of hype is good to build interest. This is ridiculous though. for the first time since MacWorld I am doubtful about getting one, just because I am so sick of all this iPhone hype.

Thank you- I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. What is with everyone?

thank god i was getting scared it would be delayed:) :apple:

Why would it be delayed. Apple is no longer a compter company, but a small tinket company with its iPod & upcoming iPhone. You noticed that resourses wre not taken from the iPhone to bring out Mac OS 10.5 on time. But rather the reverse was true. Resourses wre taken from the Mac OS development to be used on a limited market gadget.

The iPhone may look cute & fill a small niche market, but is being late on the release of OS 10.5 late & looking like MS really worth the price. Because Apple is now a trinket company they seem not to be concerned with the loss of sales, loss of image & loss of keekping the Mac Computer User satisfied.

I know only one person that has AT&T cell phone service & he doesnot have the money to purchase an iPhone. Those, like me, that have other service have no plans to purchase such a seemingly high priced cell phone gadget or trinket. My son had his cell phone & PDA tied together, but had to replace it because the cell phone no longer operated. When he purchased new he went with a Palm for his PDA needs & a separate cell phone for his phone needs. He said that he would never again get a combined device. Apple research seems to indicate that my son is in the minority group. I for one never went the route of a combined unit. I have a Palm PDA, an iPod for music & a Motorola cell phone for my phone needs. Why would I want to combine them? Cell phones needs to be replaced too often in my opinion to have large scale devices in the same package.

Im pretty sick of AT&T throwing in their 2 cents about the iPhone, making iPhone announcements, etc. I bet Steve isnt too happy with them as well.

Hey, AT&T. Know your role. You arent making the iPhone or controlling it in anyway. You're just the carrier. So, lets leave all the iPhone talk to Apple, eh??

...Then what will we see at WWDC? This year has been very dissapointing for us consumers.

Give it up old man! You are not the atypical consumer!

There are many millions waiting to buy the Iphone at its current price!

I am in the market for at least 2. The service plan is the same as the BB/Treo and the Iphone is better if I can really use the web as demoed by Jobs.

None of the current phones offered by any manufacturer can truly get me into a NY times website or Google or Google maps or Yahoo or Yahoo Finance.

If the Iphone can achieve this breakthrough I will finally get full use out of the unlimited service plan at airports, doctors offices, restaurants, bars, vacation, airplanes or any where I am mobile without having to lug around a PC.

Get with the times, old chap!
