the point is not where the question is being posed. It's about pros and cons from what should be objective people. Or am I being naive?

Yes, you're going to get a lot more "iphone" responses here, but don't confuse that with "bias." The great majority of us come here because we've looked at all of the options and decided that macs (or in this case, iphones) are superior to the other options out there. This board as a whole is going to give you a pro-iphone perspective, but individual users have been in the same position you're in now and made their decisions in an objective way.

For my part, I have an original iphone even though both the iphone 3G and the Bold greatly appeal to me. The reason I don't buy a Bold is that after experiencing mobile safari and the app store, any device that lacked those things would seem sadly lacking, no matter what else it could do. The reason I don't buy an iphone 3G is because they didn't make enough improvements to make it worth the upgrade, so I'm waiting for the third gen iphone.

The BOLD's E-Mail is moste definitely better than the iPhone.
For some users, the Touch Screen interface is hard to use for typing long messages, I find it pretty easy. I type faster than i did on a physical qwerty keyboard!
The Bold doesn't have a touchscreen, so it might be harder to read longer e-mails, but you'd make the time up when replying.
If you're a business user, then I would go for the Bold, flat out. The Bold is more business friendly, while the iPhone is like a toy

well i have a bold and i used too have a iphone first i can say the bold comparing to the iphone is tougher to use but has much more features the speakers ARE EFFIN LOUD!!! my dad gets startled every time he's near it :p but really its all on preference if you have any questions pm me.

I have a BB Curve, I want an Iphone...all my friends say its a mistake. The BB does have a few better features. But i tell them all the cool kids have one so i want one.

Thanks Sergiuria! I'm going to get it installed on my fiance's iPhone ASAP.
There a lot out there, accurate for my voice so far was vLingo & VoiceBox but feel free to try all the free ones out there ;)

Well, the iPhone is a very good phone. But yours is a sad example of purchasing something for the wrong reason, status. Trust me, the "cool kids" won't think you're cool for getting what they think is cool, they'll think of you the same way they always have, but at least you'll have a good phone.

i think he was joking

i WAS.

i buy apple items because IMO they are the best. Plus syncing a BB to an IMAC with pocket manager is horrible.

I own both and like both for different reasons. I use the Bold as a business phone and the iPhone as a data monster. MobileMe is the biggest reason that I own a iPhone. As a road salesman, MobileMe keeps me updated with contacts and calendars which is vital. I like the Bold as a phone, email and texting machine.

I could be seen as ignorant

But honestly I cant see how anyone who have used an iphone, expierenced the app store and uses itunes could use any other phone but an iphone. For me it combines an ipod touch, cell phone, and wireless internet on the go without having to carry a clunky computer around its not an option for me the iphone is amazing.

Not sure if this has been posted.

Use your fiance's iPhone for a month or so, and see if you prefer it. Best thing to do in these types of situations is try it out :)

For the web browser alone I could never go back. All those other features are just gloss (even the iPod, because I already have one). But Safari... it is the reason the iPhone is the top phone on the market, in my opinion.

You point out definitely one fine feature of the iPhone that the Bold lacks, the App Store. With the Bold you have to choose and install your apps from your base computer whether you install the app wirelessly or not. iTunes is a draw; both work with it. The Bold's iPod-like feature uses a copy of the iPod Classic interface, which as an owner of an iPod Classic, I tend to prefer to Coverflow. Yes, you can download songs via wi-fi from iTunes to the iPhone, but that's no bigger than mice nuts to me. I prefer to use the iTunes desktop app, however, especially since I rarely feel the urge to download an album whenever I'm in a wi-fi hot spot. So the Bold meets all your criteria except for the App Store, which again, is a very nice feature, but hardly a big deal. The Bold makes up for it in other features that the iPhone lacks. I'm not trying to be argumentative, forgive me if I seem that way, what I'm trying to do is get info from the people most knowledgeable about the iPhone about why I might want to reconsider my purchase before my 30 days runs out.

I had both in my hands for a few days several weeks ago. I went with the Bold and my Mom went with the iphone. There's a reason why they call them crackberries...

As a work phone, I'd have to say that a BlackBerry is better, and I think it is more professional as well.

Last week I decided to switch to the Bold from my iPhone 3G after playing with it in the store I absolutely loved it. I got the Bold on friday and gave my iPhone to a family member who has been wanting one for sometime.. I'll detail both of the pros and cons below.

First, the display is amazing. It's very bright, contrasty, and sharp. Even the smallest text is very legible. I also really liked the keyboard. Comparing it to the iPhone I found instant messaging to be far superior. While I liked texting with it I didn't really like that it doesn't do threaded SMS. The audio from the bold is by far the best I've heard on any phone(both call quality and audio from the internal speakers). The audio from the speakers seemed better some notebooks I've heard.

The first thing I noticed when I got home with is is the synching software for Macs found on the blackberry website is slow and very unstable and doesn't have the option to upgrade the firmware. I also found that the browser while quick to load pages renders them very badly and many sites it loads the wap version. Scrolling and zooming is very tedious and clunky. The same with html emails most of the time the images wouldn't download even though it's set to. Many say that emailing on the blackberry is superior to any other phone but in my personal experience I really didn't enjoy it. It didn't seem in any way superior to my experience with the iPhone and Mobile Me.

I had mixed experiences with apps. With the iPhone I regularly use Beejive(instant messaging), myspace, facebook, Google Maps, and NetNewsWire(for rss feeds). Myspace and Facebook while not as shiny as the iPhone versions offer similar functionality. Beejive is great on the iPhone but I found that I much preferred the stand alone clients for AIM and Yahoo Messenger on the Bold especially since they always run. NetNewsWire for the Blackberry is horrible. Google maps works about the same on both but with the iPhone it's a much smoother experience.

While it is an amazing device I ended up exchanging the Bold for an iPhone 16 GB. If you have primarily Mac computers the iPhone is the way to go if you want to stay in sync. Had RIM included better software for Macs I probably would have kept it. Also, if you intend to do any regular internet browsing the iPhone blows the bold out of the water. If you tend to talk on the phone more than using internet/media/data related features the bold would be a much better choice.

One thing that the iPhone and Bold need is to come out on Verizon. Verizon in my area is far better than AT&T as far as reception goes. That is why I use a Curve on Verizon for business and iPhone and Bold on AT&T for personal. If I cannot talk to my customers without dropping calls or crackeling voices the phone is useless hence Curve on Verizon.

Back when I was just a stupid consumer (purchasing things because they were new and shiny, but not in the least bit practical) working at Wal-Mart...for some reason I got it in my head I needed a PDA-type phone. I bought Blackberries, Treos, Palms, etc...hated them all. Music capabilities were poor, the tiny keyboard sucked when you actually had to, y'know, make a phone call (god forbid you use that keyboard, even on today's pda phones, while driving), and the games were very sparse. Solitaire and Tetris were a coup on those phones. Email was a chore to read, as the screens were (and still are) very small. Keep in mind This is all just about 2-3 years ago.

So I gave them up, and got a Razr v2. That was a good phone for most things. Email still sucked. That phone met an unfortunate demise a li'l over a year into my current employment. So as I was shopping around for a new phone...I had a chance to move up in the company. I applied for a promotion. The type of phone I was going to buy depended highly on which job I came out with at the end of the day. If I was stuck in my same job, I'd have likely gotten the Razr v2 again. If i got promoted, I'd go with the 3G iPhone.

Thank God I got promoted. The iPhone does everything I could want in a phone. It does games well enough, it's got plenty of useful apps, handles music better than my windows computer did, is a breeze to type texts on, i can actually dial a phone number while driving and not looking at the screen, and the EMAIL. All i need in email on a phone is to be able to read it clearly and quickly. To view pictures attached or embedded clearly. Being able to zoom in/out quickly is awesome. I love how organized and efficient it all is. It's a bar phone too, which rocks, because I used to buy Nokia bar phones exclusively, and those started getting phased out. I could only be happier if I had a 32GB or even a 64GB iPhone.

I've used em all, but the iPhone's been the one for me. It keeps me in touch with co-workers/customers who NEED me to be there.
