Yeah and since were talking about Brands i think the iPhone Brand itself is very valued.

I still don't agree. For example the Windows OS runs on Set top boxes do they call it windows set top? No it's called Windows Embedded. Windows OS runs on Netbooks is it called Windows Netbook edition? No its still called windows.

I simply don't think they are going to change the name. And i'm not sure where all this talk even came from. And yes we have heard many rumors about macs but that's all they are simply rumors. I'm a realistic and i like facts not speculation.

Now in the end i could be wrong they could change the name. But untill i see something pointing in that direction they aren't changing it. and FYI where is the proof that apple TV is even going to run apps? Other than some secret source by a want to be journalist (a.k.a blogger) from engadget? :D

I'm sorry but the only thing I can agree on you with is the fact that this is pure speculation. That's true. But in my opinion they completely should, and I wouldn't be surprised if they did. your analogies are so far off...

Yes the iphone "brand" is valued, but you don't buy the "iphone OS". you buy the iphone, or the ipad, or the ipod touch... No one is going to be confused if the underlying OS name was changed. The average person won't even notice. In fact people will be more confused once they realize that their ipad runs an "iphone" OS. Yes we don't know the future of iphone OS but I think we can only assume that it's very bright.

And ur windows analogy is way off. first of all windows has huge huge huge brand recognition. That could never be changed. but mainly windows is a general, generic name that can be applied to anything. you are arguing why not to make the OS name more specific... nobody is arguing for a more specific OS name, we want a more general one that makes more sense for the wide range of devices that is currently used.

Funny thing is that out of the 2 Million or so people who have iPad's i didnt hear about anyone getting confused. Seems like its the minority of some mac rumors forums that want this to happen.

Seems to me only code monkeys and geeks would be this anal about semantics.

The average consumer probably doesn't even know the name of the OS. But if they were to realize it they would probably think it's weird. I'm not saying it's the end of the world, but it's something that I think should be addressed if they expect to continue propagating the OS onto more devices (which is speculatory)

I doubt they rename it right now. It's not like the term iphone OS is used much anyway outside of keynotes. iTunes was never changed to respond to it organizing tv shows and movies.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

Cisco's OS for their routers is called IOS. So doubt it.

Guess I was wrong.

Well done to the OP for calling this. iOS it is. I can live with that.

When I first saw this thread days ago...my intention was to flame the OP. But I held my tongue and good thing! Good call Pedro!

I definitely think there will be a name change, don't know to what though.

iOS sounds good though. But not sure how long Apple will hold onto the 'i' naming convention.

Wow...pedro had a great guess!

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that Cisco didn't know anything about Apple iOS before now either. They'll probably get a good chunk of money out of this.

Thanks for the congrats guys. I had been thinking about this for a while and my hunch was right. I guess I should go play the lottery now :D

EDIT: LOL! Even my predictions in the predictions thread were right on the money!

WWDC Keynote 2010:

- iPad, iPhone Updates

- iPhone OS: renamed for the future (iOS)

- iOS 4.0 final feature set. GM Available today, public release next week.

- Phone 4

- iChat for iOS

- iMovie for iPad

I got both iOS and iPhone 4 right. Woo hoo!

I am very surprised. What kind of deal do you suppose they struck with Cisco?

Cisco iOS is also a phone OS so it's a very grey area here. I knew that iOS was the best name to carry the torch from OS X moving into the next decade. I'm glad Apple pulled it off.

All hail ipedro. We're not worthy.

What phone? I know they use it in routers, but phones?
