late to the party as usual apple. I expected this last year
It would be a bit chunky. No more protruding **** please. This gives hope for an all flat back!
Hopefully no one steals this patent before Apple puts it out on the market.
And there are no camera controls on a smartphone other than on the touchscreen.
to be fair that's usually what Apple does, they're not usually first to market with things, but when they come in they do it with a vastly more refined product (usually, not always)This tech is already on several smartphones. As usual Apple is late to the game, hopefully in a more refined manner.
Yeah, I'm wondering what this does to contrast. The more elements light has to travel through, generally the lower contrast and brightness are.Why double mirrors?
That’s an unnecessarily complicated design that degrades image quality with no added benefit. Why don’t they use a single mirror like any other manufacturer?
why would you want that? patents literally screw the consumers. ideally, you want no patent to ever exist.
They may be counting on compensating with extra external sensors and the image proc capabilities built into AS chips moving forward, the second part is the reason why the camera in the M1 Airs looks decent despite a rather low res overallYeah, I'm wondering what this does to contrast. Why would you want patent theft? That's not innovation. Since we have a patent system, we need to enforce it and play by the rules. Chaos and theft ≠ competition.why would you want that? patents literally screw the consumers. ideally, you want no patent to ever exist.
Has big potential to grab peoples attention with the right ad. Will be interesting to see what Apples marketing team does with this.
They could have a flat back right now if they weren't so keen on making the iPhone paper thin.
I think you’re missing the point of the improvements to a computer and camera that can fit in your back pocket, or maybe just a lack of foresight.First time the iPhone gets dropped, even a foot or two, the periscope lens will likely be broken.
Besides, the best lens in the universe coupled with a tiny sensor equals a crap camera. And there are no camera controls on a smartphone other than on the touchscreen. So other than a few Auto mode photos that will never be award winning, it is still a cracker-jack box toy camera. Albeit it an expensive one.
Meh....
It might be that single prism variants are heavily protected by tons of already existing patents. Why double mirrors?

The patent authors don't seem to think so. "The lens system may be moved on one or more axes independently of the prisms to provide autofocus and/or optical image stabilization for the camera."What they won't show (in those Marketing Ads) is that they will have had the iPhone mounted on a Monopod OR Tripod !
Image Stabilization will be a BIG challenge !
Actually most on here are just trolls that want to be angry about anything and everything. Often times the anger is just for attention or to be a pain and has little personal justification. The same people that complain about phones being too thick one day will complain about them reducing the thickness and therefore the battery the next day. They’ll also complain about it always being cloudy and then complain the sun is too bright once it shines. Most people on here are Apple shareholders primarily so are happy for millions of other consumers to be screwed
