An original rivet from the GG Bridge. You can see a bit of the orange paint on it. No, I didn't vandalize the bridge to get it. My cousin worked on the earthquake retrofit project several years back as an ironworker. He had to remove a lot of rivets and replace with stronger bolts. He got to take some home and was kind enough to give me a couple.

What a neat thing to actually have. Ever seen the history channel's documentary on it? It's real neat but kind of creepy in a way. I love bridges myself so it was of interest to me.

Yeah I've seen a lot of shows about it. I grew up in the Bay Area and it was always a welcome sight. My cousin also got to take a ride up to the top of one of the towers in the rickety little elevator they have inside. I would give anything to experience the view from up there. It's one of a kind. I'd have to bring a lot of camera equipment of course, and put a lanyard on my iPhone. But I'll never get that chance.

Every time I hold the rivet, I think about the history behind it, the workers that installed it, and the engineers that designed the bridge. I'm an engineer myself, so I'm hugely impressed by the elegance of that design, made only with sliderules, pencil and paper.

Ironworkers ROCK!

Here's one from the Buccaneer/Green Bay game earlier this year. (Yes, I did actually watch the game! :p)

Turkey Cake

This is a cake my daughter and I made. We have never made a cake before this!
The first pic is from my I phone, the rest are from a digital camera.

I would admittedly struggle a little to eat a cake that looks convincingly like a large plate of meat, but I have to say that turkey cake was extremely well done. Ever consider getting a job with "Ace of Cakes"?

:D

We're around 5 weeks further along than when this shot was taken, but it's my favorite photo.

The little dude/chick is just lounging out in mommy, chillin' out.

Very exciting stuff.
