I’m kinda socked that so many people are so offended by these photos, the amount of hate is pretty unwarranted. I’ve been following the grand winner Erin Brooks for years on instagram. Her images have been featured in Apple advertising for years. Even Tim Cook tweeted some of her images. It’s kinda weird me that she is the winner AGAIN to be honest, she keeps being featured for her iPhone photos everywhere, leave some opportunities for other people already!! 🤣 Granted a few of the images are really bad, the whole still life section is just horrific. But there is a lot of good work in there. But if you want better photos and you think you can do better then enter! I’m going too next year..

Also, the people basing the editing and saying it’s all photoshopped are hilarious. If you bothered to actually look up the website and details of the competition instead of just trolling you would see that you aren’t allowed to use any editing software apart from what’s on your phone. So, no photoshop. Erin edited the image in lightroom on the iPhone 15 Pro.

Sadly, I'm not shocked at all. It's the way it is here with respect to every subject on every story. Almost always negative.

I thought the photos were pretty good.

Is this limited to iPhone users living in the USA or available to iPhone users worldwide? How does one join or submit an entry?
If you click the link they provided to the contest, there are several international winners listed and the rules say “open worldwide”. You enter by paying $5.50 for the first photo entered, or up to $75.50 for 25 images.

Almost seems like a money making operation to me, considering the prizes appear to top out at an iPad Air, followed by three Series 3 Apple Watches (Series 3?), and then a gold bar for first place in each of the 14 categories, and then platinum bars for 2nd and 3rd place. The bars sounded impressive until I noticed they are 1 gram, which makes them more foils than bars to me.

I guess I can’t begrudge them making a business out of this, but unless they get very few entries, the entry cost seems fairly high to me, at least compared to the prizes. I expect that the exposure and title could certainly be a huge prize to many, though.

Uh yeah… it’s the same thing. Photoshop is just the standard verb for this because we don’t want to have to list out every available application every time “edited photos” come up in conversation.

Apple is a terrible company that abuses it's market power and trying to bullying everyone yo maximize its own gain. Everything Apple does is for its own greed.

It just happens that this greedy, monoplistic company produces some good products.

In this case, Apple is asking people to pay for its own advertising. Instead Apple paying for these photos, Apple is charging them for its own gain. Terrible!

If Apple is such a terrible and abusive monopolistic company, why are you here?

Being principled person, I certainly wouldn't own any of their products if that were true, or be on this forum. And instead would be voting with my wallet purchasing competitors' products, sending Apple a strong message.

Really? I would have considered the standard description as “processed” or “image processed” for most of the changes to these photos, whereas “Photoshopped” would usually refer to actual editing of an image.

I guess I can’t speak for everyone haha. I’ve heard a thousand times over the years when a photo is overly processed people saying “it’s so photoshopped you barely can tell what the scene really looked like” for example. I’m probably talking to people that don’t know anything about photography in these cases, so maybe that’s why it’s the catch-all “photoshopped” versus the more technically correct “processed”.

I’m not sure if the forum will wreck the quality of these, but they were taken using RAW on my 14 Pro, then the details found in Lightroom.

No fancy lenses, no special lighting, just capturing my girls living out their lives on our vacation. These cameras are an absolute gift to us all.
These are not overprocessed and show off the capabilities of the camera much better than some of the 'winners.'

it's not that they WERE edited, it's just that some were an ugly mess or just not that good a shot to begin with. Especially to be considere a winner. I'm not 'offended' - just surprised as there are better examples they could use.

Fair enough. It helps if you've been image processing since before Photoshop existed, but even after all that time, I still find it strange when "people that don't know anything about photography" end up being harsh critics of something that is effectively just subjective art. I've seen three lines painted on a canvas make it into a museum, so I've simply given up art criticism! 😀
