if you think about it, trade in prices are about half from the original purchase as far as I can see.

So while you have to buy your initial iPhone full price, every year you update - you only pay for half an iPhone.

Potentially less if you sell the old device on marketplace or somewhere else.

Something to consider.

You can use your iPhone for at least 6 years.

I bought my iPhone 6 for $770 CAD. The 14 Pro Max is currently $1800 lmao. I keep all my phones, not trade them for 50% depreciated value after only 1 year. So yes the prices are bad.
Why would you keep all your phones?

The maths is flawed here. You aren't paying just half the price, because the new phone is more expensive than the old. You're paying about 60% of the price plus the loss of your old phone.

It's never cost effective to upgrade annually. If it was, they wouldn't give you the option to do it. You could argue the benefits are worthwhile to you. And that's fine, because that's a subjective decision. But don't kid me that it's a cost effective upgrade.

On the other hand, yeah, you can obviously substantially subsidise the cost of a new handset by trading-in a very recent one. But in reality, people often keep old phones to hand down to family members, so the five-generations-old phone which actually gets traded in is worth about as much as the change down the back of the sofa.

Prices look pretty bad in this screenshot. 😈

Price s remained the same because of the strong dollar when compared to other country’s currency.

Pricing is mad in Asia. I would understand iphone costs, but apple care + is 2x the price for the pros!
With taxes, its $2100 for a 256 pro with ac+ vs less than $1500 with taxes in the states. The states have killer pricing, unchanged since the iphone X, what more can you ask for

The Euro lost over 15% of its value compared to the US$ ($ went from 0.85€ one year ago to almost 1.00€ recently), thanks to Mme Lagarde denying there’s any inflation for a much too long time.
Which makes the euros equal to the dollars, before it was stronger. Explain to me then why we should pay more ?

999$ = 987€. If you add the VAT (20%), it makes 1198$ = 1184€. Guess what ? The base price in France is... 1329€. Same logic for the UK. European pay more, period .

I’ve been thinking about trading in my 12 Mini for a 14 Pro however Apple are offering only slightly less than 1/3 the original value of my Mini which is still in pristine condition because it was in an OtterBox for most of its life. The 14 Pro is enticing but I don’t think paying £875 AND losing my 12 Mini can justify Dynamic Island and a better camera. I should just do the sensible thing and replace the battery which is sitting at 84% and keep it for another 2-3 years.

The consumer in me wants to just bite the bullet and go ahead with it whereas my logical mind is pulling the brakes, lol.

Prices are bad in the UK and the EU. Standard 14 is £100 more than a 13 and the Pro Max has gone up £160. All Apple Watches have give up £50 too. Trade ins with Apple are appalling and expect to lose £450-£500 on a year old device.

The only people who are happy with these price increases seem to be diehard enthusiasts.
Even the airtags have gone up in price by £6.

Imagine upgrading every 2 years, with the money you save you could give away your older iPhone to somebody that has bigger problems in his life to worry about, rather than coming up with these ideas.
