lower prices would be very appealing:D

Not as appealing as selling it unlocked to begin with. Visual voicemail may require some special setup with Cingular, but other than that, does the iPhone have any other features that require Cingular? No.

So now you have to ask yourself, is Visual Voicemail worth changing carriers over?

Subsidized vs. Unsubsidized

I read it on here before, the original prices introduced by Apple were the unsubsidized prices. This means that the prices might possibly be reduced by Cingular, but if this happens then Apple will most likely sell it in their own stores and online for the originally introduced prices of $499 and $599. I don't know what the terms in the Cingular/Apple allegiance were, but I don't remember the last time Apple was on the losing end of a deal.

For $499, I wasn't even considering the iPhone and was going to get a BlackBerry in August when I get my new phone, but for $299, the iPhone may very well beat out the BlackBerry, depending on how well the touch keyboard of the iPhone is.

I thought that Apple/Cingular made it clear that the iPhone would ONLY be sold with a 2 year contract. hmm...

That's what happens if you BUY a phone. Most plans hide financing of the "free" phone in the monthly access fee. Remove the financing and the airtime would be, well $19.99

Even $20 is expensive compared to the dimes I used to put in pay phones.

Of course, pay phones are 50¢ now.

They probably realized that since hardly anyone is buying a Playstation 3 for $599, who would pay that for a phone.

I want at least double the storage space on those phones if I was going to use it for video (which I would of course have to, I mean look at that screen!). How about a 32gb and 16gb phone at the price points they have now?

Also include VOIP, that is of course provided by AT&T without the need for their cell service (don't get it here), and you have me sold.

From the article:

"EDIT: The image has been removed. Bear with me while I figure some things out. Thanks guys."

Hmm, maybe they got the good ol C & D letter from Apple and/or AT&T? Or maybe they're smart and know they might lend more credibility to the story by taking it down. hmm...

I am glad I saw it before it was removed. At first I thought the iPhone was not an option for my budget as I wanted to get an iPod too because of how much music I have. But now things look alot better if that comes true. But I am in canada so I will have to wait.....:(

If the iPhone turns out to be only 2/399, then just imagine what the price of a wide/touchscreen iPod would be. Exciting. :D

I'm sure with the less aloted features and technology, an all NAND-Flash based high capacity (30+ Gig) iPod sounds very realistic.

Will

While that would be exciting, to be honest, I would expect the next video ipod to have the touchscreen/UI of the iPhone, but still have a hard drive. I don't think that flash prices have dropped sufficiently in order to have enough space on the ipod to satisfy consumers at the same price point.

$59.99 for 450 min and a data plan? I hope that's fake because that's a freaking rip off. Cingular is way too expensive in my opinion.

ripoff? i pay 70$ for 600 min and an additional 10$ for 200 texts [which i frequently exceed] (cingular)

thats CHEAP for cingular.

when i had tmobile i payed 50$ for 600 min and 10$ for 800 texts. problem is, tmobile has the WORST network coverage and NO 3/2.5G at all... max signal i'd get is 4 bars and frequently when driving around i get no coverage or "emergency only"

Hmm... I just checked macrumors after being out all day, I'm a bit perplexed.

I sure would appreciate a PM from a friendly stranger, if you know what I mean...

Actually if you check out cingulars website, the plans match up they are currently offering. They charge 39.99 for 450 min. on individual plans and 19.99 for unlimited smartphone data plans. If the posting is correct, that would mean that cingular is putting the iphone in the smartphone plans instead of creating a new category.
