Yep, Best Buy bought out Future Shop (Canadian owned until then) a few years back when they began making their move into Canada. I also thought that Best Buy would begin to phase out Future Shop about now, since they began to build Best Buy within a kilometer distance of Future Shops

i was reading something lately, explaining how this was the original idea, but what has actually happened is that future shop and best buy are appealing to two entirely different demographics, with "a male, technologically motivated population segment shopping at future shop" wheras women and people who dont spend hours a day posting on forums devoted to computers/electronics would shop at bestbuy...

in regards to rogers data plans. the gsm monopoly up here is atrocious. it would be cheaper to get a data plan from at&t, and ROAM IN CANADA , than it would be to use an iphone with the 'current' data rates. that being said, with more data intensive devices we may see the data costs drop... until then though, it would be unheard of to even CONSIDER accessing the kind of data the iphone would command, for the average consumer (read: people without 'employee plans' or business-covered accounts)

No big deal. Best Buy is just farming e-mail addresses for their newsletter updates.

Best Buy does sell Fido phones if I remember correctly, so that's the connection there I guess. I'm also sure a date will be released at the same time from all sources, there's no reason for Best Buy would be the only company to let us know first.

Exactly. No story here, just another company using a buzz word to generate traffic to their site. I'll get the latest info from MacRumors, as usual.

Now if only Arn sold flat screen TVs...

I read last week that Bell may be retrofitting their network with GSM rather than the CDMA/1X they use now. I hope so, it would give Rogers incentive to come out with more reasonable plans.

best buy carry anything by apple ? i remember that compusa here had an "apple store" insisde.. but i never seem at best buy, and near me have about 4 huge ones.

Not sure where you live, but every Best Buy in my area (at least 5) sells Apple products (imacs, macbooks, etc..)

buy one and find out..just kidding.

no it will not work. you are like the rest of us....screwed.

All I gotta say is, if Best Buy is BULL SH*TTING us with this promo...then I think we need to seriously complain....to who don't know, how, no clue...but getting hopes up like this is not COOL!!

also, I had an idea as I was walking past my local Rogers store on Robson street. There is giant poster for the Blackpus*sy...I mean berry Pearl..I really want to make a big sticker that says "WAKE ME WHEN YOU GET iPHONES" and stick it on the ads...

wonder how that would go over??

That would be the best rumour I heard all week!!! We need more competition to bring our crazy cell rates down (both voice and data).

Why? I buy a lot of electronics and, by far, Best Buy/Future Shop is the better company. Over A&B Sound by a mile. London Drugs is ok.

Preference, mainly. I'd rather support a Canadian store rather than an American, even if do spend a little more.

That's not to say that London Drugs or A&B Sound is better than Best Buy/Future Shop. CDs and DVDs are rather overpriced at London Drugs, and there's no way I'd buy a Seanix computer from A&B Sound.

But A&B Sound is comparable to BestBuy for CDs and DVDs, if you go in the first few days of the weekly sales, and I've found more than a few incredible deals at London Drugs for electronics.

One other thing, I find that staff at London Drugs tends to be slightly more knowledgeable, especially when it comes to Apple products.

I personally don't like Future Shop and Best Buy for Apple products. Macintosh computers are usually at the back, with years of dust, white macbooks going yellow, and beat up iMacs and Mac minis.

They just carry them to say "Yes we have them, they look crappy and expensive. Here, have a PeeCee"

GRRR!!!! I hate their tv ad "What do you know about 1080p?" No Thanks, F*** off!

They have ipods because they jumped in. Ok, so now they "want" to jump to the iPhone.

I agree with the posts above about London Drugs and A&BSound. It's a shame we don't have those in Toronto.
