At my high school (I'm in Year 9) however Samsung is 'The Next Big Thing' as all the 'popular' kids have S4s and the like while iPhones are pretty much what Nokia was in the late 2000s, as a phone for mums and 'old people (Samsung marketing victims).

This is interesting especially in light of all those consumer surveys from a couple years ago that showed increasing numbers of Android users planning to buy iPhones and few going the other way.

I've joked that dealing with the Android clusterf*** for 2 years is enough to make anyone an iPhone user, but I'm starting to think that's what is actually happening. I watched it happen with my wife and my daughter, both of whom loved their Android phones at first, but grew weary of its eccentricities after 6 months and switched to iPhones. I know others who have done the same. I know of nobody who grew to hate their iPhone and jumped to Android.

It's anecdotal, I know, but it does fall in line with the consumer surveys from the last few years.

Maybe but thats a very limited scope of people. The Google ecosystem is outperforming Apple's and it shows.

This. I am noticing that with my nephews and nieces as they mention that the cool kids are now heading towards Samsung.

Samsung's aggresive marketing did pay off for them

No they aren't. Phone companies are moving towards installment plans. So it will just be another monthly fee along with the bill.

And you think this is preferable? I wonder how parents will react when there's 3-4 of these on an account.

You guys amaze me. You scream and complain when Microsoft or Adobe move to a subscription model, yet it's ok for this. With the new model, you're renting your phone.

I sometimes question why I have an iPad. Probably why I haven't bought the iPad Air. The iPad 4th gen is good enough and the apps aren't going to do anything different with the Air.

To me, the 4th gen and previous gens of the iPad were never "good enough". The iPad Air is a sea change. If you haven't held one, I suggest you do. It has the size and weight that the iPad should've had all along, but probably wasn't technically feasible until now. It's the first iPad I've actually used to browse the web, as it feels comfortable to hold casually. It really is an outstanding device.

In my school, I would say 65% of children own an iPhone. 10% are still stuck with a blackberry curve, 25% have android, of which 70% have a samsung galaxy phone.

Then there's me, who has a nexus 5.

iPhones are becoming the new blackberries. Especially iPhone 4. That is the modern day equivalent to the curve.
Samsung galaxy phones are the new iPhone.(as in for those who go for something different to the norm)

17% would buy an iWatch? I think the actual percentage of people owning any Apple product to consider buying the watch will be much higher, at least in the 30's and not to speak of new customers changing from Android.

iWatch, iOS 8 and iPhone 6 will be game changers, mark my words.

I'll save your quote and repost it when its proven some if not all are not.

Given that the Samsung Galaxy watch price was put at $300, why is $350 crazy?

I don't see Apple putting the kind of tech (with the rumored sensors) and promise in a watch for cheap. I mean an iPod Nano costs $149. Cheaper than an iPod Nano? I don't see that happening.

And look at how poorly the Gear is doing. Apple realizes that hardly anyone would pay that much for a health watch.

the most the iWatch should cost is $99

Because you know it's just going to be a fancy timepiece. That's exactly the kind of product strategy Apple pursues.

Anything over 0% for a product that doesn't exist today and probably never will has to been seen as worse than a wild guess.

No, definitely not preferable. But you aren't renting your phone, you're paying for it over time rather than up front. I'd personally just buy it up front, but options are nice.

I'm not sure what Microsoft or Adobe have to do with it though... It isn't Apple that's making iPhone a subscription device, its the carriers.

What probably happens is that people are drawn into the large screen and cheap devices. Once they're frustrated with their phone they get an iPhone.

Hardware wise Androids are now better - that's a fact.

I will be converting to a Nexus if the iPhone 6 doesn't have a bigger screen.
The iPad Air is the best tablet out there,

but the phone simply sucks.

This is a twisted argument. You have been Apple's best customer for 7 years now and suddenly you are saying they suck.

Hardware = screen size? is that it.

Let us know how it goes for you after you switch, I am curious to read how it works out.

This has got to be the cutest comment I have read in years. Samsung is the new Apple. Think different!

Hardly scientific. Who were these teens? This is the same guy that counts people waiting in line to buy the new iPhone as a guide to current demand. The guy's a clown.

The current iPhone is more popular than the previous model. No **** Sherlock, that happens every year. A certain percentage of people intend to buy the iWatch. Really you couldn't this **** up if you tried.

Most of the kids in my school have iPhones, and when I pull out my HTC One I always attract some kind of attention towards the phone I am using.

There was this red head boy in my school who freaked people out when he pulled off his hoodie.

So many asterisks in one comment. Try to breath in between posts.

I think the iWatch will be a simple enabling product. Little more than a screen and a mass of sensors which feedback data to your iPhone. It will only work with an iPhone and it's sole purpose will be to increase iPhone sales in the same way the AppleTV was intended to boost iPod/iPad/iTunes sales.
