It worked for me! I went in early and told them that I had a reservation. They bumped me up and I told the guy I wanted a 32GB black 7 Plus. I told them I wanted to pay cash and use it on T-Mobile. The gentlemen who assisted me told me that was fine. Paid cash for the phone and a black silicone case. Done in 30 minutes!

I did this as well and they frowned upon it. They said if you do it that way they have to take a phone from you as your trade in. So they canceled the reservation. I asked if I could still buy the phone anyway and they did let me, so I guess if you want just reserve the phone then when you get to the store cancel it and buy it that way. But they said tell you friends they can't do it that way, haha.

I originally had iPhone 7 purchased on launch day. I traded in my iPhone 6 Plus at an att reseller. Found a 7 plus Tuesday night. Returned phone at reseller, paid restocking fee. They reimbursed my original tax payment and then offset the amount from restocking fee. Went to Apple Store and explained situation and they asked about iPhone upgrade but I examplained that has record of return of 6 plus and that simply my promo credit will transfer to this new phone and had no issues.

I had no issues 2 days ago. There wasn't even a line! Specialist asked me if I'd thought about the IUP, and I explained I wanted the $650 trade in. He dropped it.

Called and asked prior to driving. Explained that we have a bit of a drive. Said I'm not on IUP, and the employee said that shouldn't be a problem at all. Hoping I'm not wasting time here. We shall see, I'll update once I get back from the store.

Well, make sure you have the time you called in your call log so they can find the employee that was taking calls at that time. If they give you any trouble, just tell them that the employee working phones at 'such and such' time told you it would be fine and you drove two hours. Don't take no for an answer!! Lol

I showed up and wanted to go look at black and jet black in person but before i could reach the table, someone came up to me so i told them i had a reservation. They walked me over to a salesperson and he asked me for the barcode thing to scan so i whipped out passbook and he scanned it. He told me to hold on tight while he went and got the phone. I then head back across the store to look for a jet black iphone and as soon as i find one he pops up behind me and has my phone in hand. He asks me if doing the upgrade program or paying full price so i tell him Im doing full price and he asks cash or card, hand him my card and i sign and were done. He did mention to me that a lady who had just left with a ton of bags hadwalked out with 42 iPhones. He said they were limited to 2 per transaction but that the amount of transactions was unlimited. He said after that they changed that certain store policy to 2 per person per day. Great Guy, Great Store. Leawood kansas store btw

Had no issues! Walked in, told the employee I had a reservation. He said hang tight while we get someone to help you. 15 minutes late employee came over, scanned the bar code, phone was brought out and he asked what we were doing. I said carrier financing and he started the process.

I was very worried especially after seeing the post on the front page of Macrumors, but no one ever said a word about the IUP.

Great experience. In and out in 20 minutes. Reserved online early yesterday morning. Picked up MB 128+ at around lunch time. Actually, I was swapping out a gold 128+ and the exchange was seamless. Financed thru AT&T Next since I had already traded in my 6+ and wanted that $650 deal. Props to North Point Apple Store in ATL.

That's fantastic news!!
Glad it all worked out. What did you end up getting?

I was told the same thing when I showed up. The only difference with my experience is they did have one left for pay in full. I said I would've done the IUP if I had to but didn't really want to go that route.

i had a semi-bad experience at the Apple Store this evening. I usually hate on posts like his but wanted to put this out there because I don't think I read about anyone with a similar experience.

So many people have reported being able to reserve an iPhone online and then pay full price (device only). I placed an order (7 plus 128gb black ATT) shortly after midnight for pick up at the Apple Boylston Street between 6 - 6.30pm.

I arrived at the store around 5.30 and joined the line and was called upon at 6pm. I showed them my reservation and told them I was paying in full. They both (a genius and genius in training) said OK and I thought this should be quick. A few minutes later they returned with no phone. Why?

They said that the phone I reserved was solely for IUP only and I couldn't buy it full price. I said I believe I could do this and I had read it online and seen many do this. We went back and forth and they said they would speak to a manager. About 30 minutes later they returned and said he (the manager) was going to make a "one time exception" and sell me the phone. Sigh of relief

So did I do something wrong or is there something funny going on here?

Well the part I left out of the story was I had an exchange too. Preordered the 7 Plus 256 silver on preorder night and got it launch day. When my boyfriend got his matte black the following Monday though I immediately fell in love. I've never liked black faces or the space grey phones but I was in love with his device when he got it. So I got a 7 Plus 256 in matte black today and I couldn't be happier. Having had a white front every year since the iPhone 4, this feels almost brand new device entirely.

Easy going over here. Placed a reservation (Iup) this morning for a black 128gb 7+ Sprint. My email did mention it was for Iup, when I walked into the Apple store I checked in and waited a few minutes for some help. When the guy came to help I told I was just buying out right, he scanned the code in the email and went and got me my phone. Rang me up and sent me on my way. Just cancelled my in process pre-order (glad I lost out on all that sleep for nothing).

So you had a choice to pick which you wanted? As in ATT next or iPhone upgrade program. Have reserved a 7+ but want to do next because of ATT trade in program, but dont want to drive an hour just to be told i need to use their program

Pretty sure, according to macrumors, Apple is now limiting reservations to Apple Upgrade Program people. But last Sunday, I was definitely given a choice.

They're stupid.......one time exception my a$$. The manager probably told them they were wrong and they told you "one time exception" to not feel stupid in front of you.

I paid for my phone in full online. And then went to the store to pickup. I was able to return the phone/get refunded, only to turn around and purchase the same phone on a verizon 24 month payment plan. That way I can take advantage of the verizon trade in promo.

Honestly.....it's your reservation for that particular phone. It's your phone and you should be able to do whatever you want.

Pretty sure, according to macrumors, Apple is now limiting reservations to Apple Upgrade Program people. But last Sunday, I was definitely given a choice.

Not the case. I reserved an iPhone for my father, a 7 Plus Black for AT&T yesterday morning for pick up at 10:30am. Spoke to one rep when he signed me in and he said that any phone reserved does not have to be set up on the Apple Upgrade Program and that I could choose my carrier's financing program during checkout.

To confirm this, the second rep who actually brought out the iPhone from the back, let me watch him go through the motions while he set up and activated the iPhone. And sure enough one of the screens allows the Apple salesperson to pick Apple iPhone Upgrade Program OR the carrier financing options available through your carrier (in my case AT&T Next Plan).

If an Apple salesperson says that you can't pick your carrier financing options during the check out of your reservation, that's a lie.

Ok so to follow up on my adventure.

-Preordered ATT iPhone 7+ Matte Black on 9/9/16 From ATT website
-With and Esitmated ship date 10/7- 10/14.

-Found out about iUP program/website and decided to keep looking for the exact phone I had preordered on the iUP website.

- 9/23 I woke up checked the iUP website and it showed the 7+ Matte Black I was looking for in stock at a local apple store. I immediately clicked reserve and planned on going to pick it up in the evening after work.

-I wanted to see if it was possible to switch to ATT next before I went and picked it up. I was hearing people saying no that you couldn't do that and others were saying they had no problem doing this.

- I called the Apple store I reserved the phone from to see if in fact it was possible to not use the iUP program and use ATT Next instead.

- I actually called twice! One representative told me no that it wasn't possible and that I had to use the iUP program but he didn't seem to understand what I was asking. The second phone call, the guy was very helpful and told me I could absolutely switch to the ATT next plan option when I pick up the phone from the apple store because it says this on their FAQ questions about how you can pay for the phone.

-Decided after the second phone call to cancel my preorder from ATT since I was going to be picking up one from the apple store. I Headed to the store to pick up my phone. I had set an appointment for 7:30pm but showed up at 5pm. I told them I had a phone reserved and they said ok and to wait in a line with about 5 others doing the same thing regardless of what time I had set the appointment for.

- They finally called me and asked to see my reservation. I showed them my email that had my reservation on it and to my suprise they said "ok how would you like to pay for it?" I said I'd like to use my ATT Next plan. He said sure thing and set it up for me.

-The whole process took about 45 mins due to the 5 people that were ahead of me in line. All I did was pay the taxes and walked out with a 7+ Matte Black phone.

So anyone doubting that this will not work is wrong. It is completely ok to do per their FAQ section when you reserve a phone through the iUP reservation program. Also for those wanting to buy it out right when you reserve it through iUP you absolutely can do this as well.

Sorry for the long post but just wanted to help others out there who are still waiting for their phone to be shipped and were considering this method. If anyone has any questions about the process I'd be glad to help answer.
