Currently downloading...

OK, let's see, 8+ hours later and I'm downloading.

The links that came in with the iPhone DC sign-up are dead. Generally they either state that a server can't be found, or they send a "sorry" message.

I looked at some of the failures Safari was reporting, and as usual, some of them simply didn't make sense, including one complaining that the server connect.apple.com could not be found (I could ping it). For some strange reason after confirming I could ping the site, I just typed in that url, and it brought me to the usual ADC sign-on screen, or so I thought. This time after entering my info it asked me to read/sign a user agreement from January (one I remember agreeing to before). This time when I agreed, I was dropped into the iPhone site and was clearly signed on.

So I'm happy now, downloading the SDK with a few minutes to go.

Really sounds like one server talking to another server and getting lost in the translation.

Hope others have better luck than I have.
:)

Show off :p...I still get the "processing your request, wait a few moments and refresh this page."

i have the first of 22 files of the iphone sdk on rapidshare, is anyone interested? If so I need to know so I can upload the rest

i got in

just kept using the link from the email, and i got lucky
im sorry for the others who are waiting. hopefully apple's servers can get back up and some real programs can be made

InterfaceBuilder not here yet

I have spent several hours with the iPhone SDK and have create a few small applications. For this Beta Release the InterfaceBuilder doesn't yet support iPhone, and for now you have to build the UI elements by hand in the code. Not too bad, but I wish I had the visual designer tools from InterfaceBuilder, since it is much easier.

So far, it has been pretty easy understanding the sample code that they have published. A lot of the cool features we learn to love in the iPhone is very easy to program, ex: UITableView, Flip animation, NavigationController, etc....

I couldn't install the applications on the iPhone, I was able to only run in the simulator so far. I guess I need to be accepted first in the iPhone Dev program, and them upload a CSR generated by KeyChain to the site, to get my code-sign certificate (read on the docs...)

Can't wait to try these apps in my iPhone....until then I will keep browsing over the documentation.

It's been a LONG day...

Dang...

I started checking in on the live-feeds around 1 PM Eastern. It's now about 3 AM...14 hours later.

I'm happy to say that I've just gotten the first application up and running under the simulator (code name "Aspen") in about 2 hours. :)

Stupidness on my part that wasted a couple of hours:

1) Assuming that the example applications in the Developers folder were for the iPod ... they were not.

2) For some reason the first time I started XCODE it offered to update various document subscriptions, which I did. It wasn't until I left Xcode one or two times and started it again, that it presented me with an iPhone or 10.5.2 development choice. I chose iPhone, then things started to make sense.

3) Finding the sample programs after step 2, gave me disk images, however the image, once mounted, would not allow a build -- it was write protected. Once I figured out that I needed to copy the files from the image to another location that had write ability, then I was all set.

So final score...time lost to ADC servers 8 hours. Time lost to my stupidity, 2 hours. Getting things working after that....5 min. Woot!

Pretty slick tool set, especially for a Beta. Now if I can just retain what I learned at 3 AM and do something useful over the weekend, I'll be a happy camper.

Good luck everybody

I've managed to download it twice from Apple and both times, the DMG file was corrupt.
This is getting stupid already.

still cant download it!!

why bother with apple anymore.

I'd be real concerned that the issue is with your account, not the servers.

After eight frustrating hours of hitting the download link, signing onto developer.apple.com and trying everything else I could think of, I finally went to the site "connect.apple.com" and logged on there. When I did, it went deeper into the rabbit hole than any other login last night, and finally asked me to agree to some software agreement (one I thought I had already agreed to months ago). Anyway, once I agreed to that, I was able to go to the download link and grab the SDK.

Now keep in mind I had entered my ID and password hundreds of times that night as a result of trying to get the SDK, and NEVER was asked in those attempts to sign anything. In fact I was pretty sure I never really successfully signed onto the iPhone section. Even when I signed onto developer.apple.com (the usual ADC site), nothing positive happened. It was only after is signed on a connect.apple.com that things started working.

My guess is that there are multiple servers involved in the process and one or more of them didn't have the right sign-off, which prevented me from reaching the iPhone Developement Center. Going into connect.apple.com must have fixed that.

Give it a try!

I had an issue around 6:30PM last night. The site kept timing out.

I tried again around 7:15PM, it started downloading on the first try and shockingly, it was extremely fast for the size of the download.

Keep trying, I suspect everyone is trying to get it. I can't believe there's that many Mac developers out there :)

One interesting note, there's a tip to turn on documentation synch'ing for iPhone doc's to get the latest updated documentation. The page shows you how to turn it on. Take a look at the version numbers in the left panel on the screenshot.

I give up... third time downloading and the DMG file is STILL corrupt.

Every time I download this damn thing, I get 2,147,487,717 bytes of data and then it stops. Doing the math, that is only 2Gb, not 2.1GB.
I've tried this on a different computer each time. I give up.

Are you downloading onto an external drive? If so, make sure that it's not Windows (FAT32)-formatted.

No, it was local on a Mac running 10.5.2
It was Safari that kept killing it at 2GB.
Loaded Firefox and it finally was able get it... finally.
5 times is a charm I guess. :)

Interesting, I'm sure that most people would've downloaded using Safari. I did and it worked fine.

I'm still going through the logs trying to see why it was doing it.
But failing 4 times in a row at the exact same spot was pretty weird.

heh, what wil download first, the file from apple or the torrent version..

damn it's slow and I have DSL. DSL is the new dial up or at least where I live.

Yeah - you can't :p

The iPhone SDK is part of Xcode - Apple's own programming program (lol, but you know what I mean). As Xcode is only available on Macs, so too is the SDK. Sorry mate.

You could OSX86.org and boot OS X onto your PC, but it isn't worth it.

If it's any consolation, it took me 11 hours to get it too lol.
