Trial production of the third-generation iPhone SE is set to get underway in the near future as Apple's suppliers and supply chain increase preparation for mass production of the new handset ahead of a launch reportedly set for early next year.

MyDrivers reports today that trial production, a stage in the supply chain ahead of when the device is mass produced, is set to start soon, according to sources in the upstream supply chain, hinting that the launch of the new iPhone is approaching. The new iPhone SE is reportedly on track to be released in the first quarter of 2022, towards the end of March.

The new third-generation iPhone SE is expected to continue with the same design featuring a physical Home button that includes Touch ID. The screen size is set to remain unchanged at 4.7-inches but will feature a faster A15 chip and improved camera capabilities.

The iPhone SE is a popular choice for customers looking for a smaller and more compact iPhone. Ahead of when Apple is expected to abandon the 5.4-inch "iPhone mini" in the 2022 iPhone series, the iPhone SE will likely play an increasingly more critical role in the iPhone lineup. The current iPhone SE starts at $399 and Apple's expected to keep the same price for the upcoming model.

It's great that they continue with this device, there is people that get sick with the OLED of the iPhone (maybe because apple uses that flickering system to control brightness) or faceid is not reliable to them and shows that apple cares about them

A logical update, I don’t think there will be too many complaints if form factor stays the same and the chipset is boosted to the A15. what if they use the plus size shell to handle 5g and bigger battery?

How many GB of storage would base model get? Will there be a price increase? Form factor of a iPhone 6s Plus?

Great news! Thought this was going to be released end 2022!

My only mini-complain with the SE 2nd Gen is the battery on certain circumstances, I thought they would improve it on the 3rd gen, but if it keeps exact-same form factor, I doubt that bigger battery cells are gonna fit if other components remain the same and/or unless these last processors are less power hungry.

For the rest, I think this is an excellent device for those who don't demand that heavy use on cellphones as myself. Add a slighly larger battery, a better camera, improved internals (CPU, 5G and other connectivity) and it would be the perfect replacement for the current one, at least for me.

edit-PS: My iPhone SE 2nd Gen still works smooth as hell and it's barely 2 years old, and most of the times, can't justify to upgrade in case I really can't stand with an old device for serious laggy reasons, but the 5G compatibility this time, is really tempting. What would you do?

Would not have bought a 13 if a iPhone 6 form factor (with touch ID) with current CPU and a way lower price tag was available when I was in the market for.

TouchID is king.

Considering the new megatron COVID variant, wearing masks is still the norm and FaceID is useless. Looking forward to the new SE, and I wonder what camera module they’re going to include.
Use to agree, however since they added the functionality to unlock using your Apple Watch it negates that complaint for me. Of course you have to have an Apple Watch.

Don't think I would go back from my 12 mini (or instead of upgrading to a 13 mini at some point). However it is good to have a lower price and smaller option.

I do however really wish they would come out with an SE Plus. My mom is still using a 6 Plus and it is time for her to upgrade however she really does not like the lack of a home button. I'd really like to get her an Apple Watch to help monitor her COPD but none of the new watches work with the older iPhone. The last best choice for that was the 8 Plus which it really long in the tooth and hard to get one in excellent condition. Even when Apple offers them at the refurb store they go quickly.

I really hope they equip it with 6GB of RAM, but they'll likely keep it at 4GB. I have a 2020 SE and the 3GB RAM is the only limitation the phone has, so 4GB for another 2 or 3 years is not really an upgrade.

Personally I just want an iPhone with Touch ID. The camera is good enough for my use. I don't need a 120Hz OLED screen either. The processor in the current SE is fast enough for the next few years, it's just the RAM that's limiting.

This will probably be my next work phone. I need something that’s compact, smaller and I don’t need all the streamlined features the more expensive models have.

The fact that Apple is even still making a budgetary – affordable phone like this, it’s still really strategic move, because they reach out to more of a larger demographic.

Well, I have an Apple Watch and the unlock is nice, but as it doesn’t cover app unlocks I still need to input my passcode to access a payment app that contains my loyalty card (which isn’t covered by Apple Pay yet) or to unlock the local postal services app for my package info.

I have been using iPhone SE on and off for the past two years, mostly due to mask mandates. I usually carry iPhone SE 2 out about when shopping, so I don’t have to type my password every time when using Apple Pay.

If iPhone SE 3 is iPhone 8SS, then it is hard pass for me. Screen looks very dated and sub 720P screen is just lazy at Apple’s part. Even sub 200 Android smart phone now ship with 1080P panel.

And that poor battery life. The 1800mAh battery is so poor, I have to charge my iPhone SE twice a day. I thought my iPhone 12 mini has very bad battery endurance, iPhone SE 2 is even worse. Combined with 5G, battery life will suck even more.

Overall, iPhone SE is just Apple being lazy and staffing old shelf parts and sell it for relatively cheap.

I mean beside the A15 chip, there is nothing iPhone SE 3 will make me want to buy. For the price of iPhone SE, you can easily find iPhone 11 Pro for much better experience. It isn’t like A15 on iPhone SE 2 will make your experience dramatically better.

You probably better served with used iPhone XS or iPhone 11 Pro with similar price point. Much better screen, better battery and camera. iPhone SE just not that good in my eye. Everything beside A15 is subpar.

I was planning on getting the 13 Pro, but now that it took so long for availability to catch up to demand for simple pick-ups, I'm tempted to just stick with my 8 and either check out this or maybe just wait for the 14 Pro on preorder 9 months from now...

”I don’t think there will be too many complaints…”

New to the forums? ?

Hopefully the new SE is the iPhone mini. The current mini is too expensive.
The mini and SE are two different products aimed at two completely different markets.

This will be great for people that hate not having a physical home button.
That would have to be a special kind of hate. ?

The SE should really adopt the Mini's design, the iPhone 6 design is way out of date, Apple's really neglecting it now.
The Senior Edition phone is a perfect design for it‘s intended market.
