The fourth-generation iPhone SE will have an iPhone 15 Pro-style Action Button, among several other significant new features, according to the leaker known as "Unknownz21."

Earlier this week, the leaker described the fourth-generation iPhone SE as "effectively an iPhone 14 derivative," echoing previous reports from the likes of Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In their latest tweet, Unknownz21 provides some new details about Apple's next low-cost iPhone and reiterates that its design will be based on the iPhone 14. The device will apparently feature a USB-C port, moving the iPhone SE away from Lightning for the first time. It will also purportedly have Face ID, dispelling previous rumors that the iPhone SE could retain a Touch ID button.

Most interestingly, they claim that the device will sport an Action Button like the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. This would be a clear differentiator between the iPhone SE and the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, which are not expected to offer the feature. The iPhone SE will also reportedly retain a single rear camera setup like the current model.

Earlier this week, it was reported that manufacturers are currently bidding to receive orders from Apple for the fourth-generation iPhone SE's OLED display panels, which would be a significant upgrade over the existing model's LCD. The next-generation iPhone SE is also believed to be among the first to contain Apple's long-rumored custom 5G modem. It is not expected to launch until 2025.

iPhone SE - Rise from the Dead.

The current iPhone Mini owners will appreciate the new design. Sounds like it'll be similar to the iPhone 14 lineup design.

Makes sense, by the time it is rumoured to come out (spring 2025) we will have iPhone 16 and iPhone 14 will be old news by then, akin to iPhone 12 today. So the action button will be in the baseline iPhone 16 for about half a year by then.

What I find strange is a single camera setup, which will effectively need a chassis redesign. This will be a departure from Apple’s current SE strategy of reusing the old chassis “as they were”. Let’s see…

If that’s true, it would be a curious decision. I can’t see why they would put it on the SE and not on the regular 15. It made sense as a pro exclusive to upsell. But they’d be “down selling” in this case.
It is because the iPhone 15 is going to be released in September 2023, and the SE 4 in 2025. By 2025 I guess the regular iPhone 16 will include the action button as well. At least that’s my guess.

Because that new SE would come after iPhone 16, so all of 16s will have all these “Pro” bits and more.

Apple is changing strategy, the market is so saturated already and they have to give people who might still be hanging on to a second gen SE, iPhone X and iPhone 11 a reason to upgrade. There are people who really like the iOS experience, but they are not gonna pay an arm and a leg for it. My fear is Apple bumps the price up to 499 especially with the rise inflation to really bring all these features to an otherwise budget phone. Then again, it might heal the chasm of not wanting to spend 1299 on an iPhone Pro.

Please Apple, for the love of all mankind with small hands, offer this as an upgrade to the 13 mini. PLEASE.

Apple listened to these pleas before, but I do not think they will fall for it again. People with small hands still want to stream Netflix on their iPhones for some strange reason while running Insta & Facebook apps on the background, all effectively toasting their batteries.

I see quite a few people with small hands as my clients (I am in health care) and I have once asked a very petite lady with iPhone 13 Pro Max why she had chosen such a big and heavy iPhone for herself, versus 13 mini or a regular 13. You know what her answer was? “Well, it was just a time to upgrade and this is what the carrier gave me.” This is where your love for all mankind with small hands meets a hard cold hyper-rational business logic that selling somebody a bigger and more expensive device is better for their business. Unless, of course, that customer specifically asks Apple/carrier for a small iPhone. And guess what, not enough did for Apple’s liking.

Sorry if it sounds disappointing, I hear you, as I do like my 12 mini, but I suppose Apple had quite a bitter pill to swallow with 12 and 13 mini and would not like to fall for it again.

They could bring back 5.8” designs too, but why would they bother to readjust all their assembly lines, etc. for a relatively small sales potential?

It is tough for us small iPhone lovers, but hey, life went on after Apple discontinued their “ideal-sized” 4” iPhones. And it is not that Android lot are all small and light either, on the contrary. I guess we will need to adjust accordingly…

The smartest move for apple would be to make another mini.

I can't stand big phones and I'd be over the moon to have a Mini SE when my 13 Mini dies, but other than personal preference I can't think of a really good reason why it would be particularly smart to use the Mini frame.

People prefer bigger phones. I don't like it, but that's the way it is and a 6-6.3" screen is probably the Goldilocks zone for a phone in this segment. I was never convinced that most SE buyers particularly care about the latest SOC, whereas a bigger screen might help to appeal to those who now buy a Samsung A series or a Pixel a series.

There's plenty of other stuff, eg cameras or other features, that Apple can use to differentiate it from the regular iPhone. Keep in mind they're currently selling three versions of more or less the same phone (12, 13 and 14).

Out of all of the iPhone models, I think the SE makes the least sense as a small phone.

An SE with the specifications described in the article seems a little too good to be true, but if it is then that's the phone I will buy to replace my 8 plus which has served me well since Jan 2019. I can't justify spending over £1000 on a phone and have no need for most of the gimmicks that the non-SE models tend to come with.
