The Se, as Apple's entry level model, is designed to be a low costs basic phone for someone who just wants a phone and photography is not important. Adding dual cameras would raise the costs, which is counter to it's positioning.
The 2016 SE had the best iPhone camera available at the time (same as in the 6S). So I’m not sure one can argue a consistent SE positioning here.

On the whole, I’d say this rumour is not believable. The goal of an SE is not to invent a phone that is cheap to buy, but rather to design a phone that is cheap to produce (and support for 4 or 5 years). A new camera design and action button don’t make any sense in this context. A wholly recycled 12 or 13 with an iPhone 16 chip will be the cheapest thing to make in 2025, without seriously competing with a base model 16. Admittedly they’ll have to switch to USB-C for EU compliance but they’ll keep it at USB2 data speeds.

Pretty much sums it up!

All I got to say is glad someone stole my iPhone 14 max out of my corvette last Nov 22. And I had insurance and got my $1700 back

This sucks. The batteries are degrading way to fast in iPhone 14 phones. Hopefully not th same problems with iPhone 15 coming??

Do you do most of the illustrations you share over here? Just curious if you do it by yourself so quickly, if you just use your iPhone for it, or you get them from Twitter or other sources…

At first I thought the single camera could be disappointing (and kinda is, because the ultra-wide is pretty useful in some situations), but on that mock-up looks so classy and clean without the squared bump… I kinda like it aesthetically.

…it is not that Android lot are all small and light either, on the contrary.
The big difference there, of course, is that you can get a flip phone which folds into a size that makes even the iPhone Mini look wastefully oversized.

It’s true that foldable screens are still evolving and not yet able to compete in quality with traditional rigid panels. Even so, more Android manufacturers are jumping into the market which is a clear indicator that growth is occurring (and analysts also report this is the case).

Once folding OLED or MicroLED panels reach a point where people consider them acceptable, the Android market is likely to shift relatively quickly. No doubt that Apple is watching the technology very closely. When it comes to portabile devices meant to be used on the go, size and weight are traits that people care about. And there will always be keen consumer interest for a compact device that easily slips into a pocket. The tech just needs more time is the oven to fully bake.

I'm giving it a few more years for foldable tech to mature. If Apple does not release a smaller iPhone in 2-3 years to replace my 12 mini, I will be very likely to switch to a Samsung Flip.

If it’s purported to be like a 14 (6.1”) how do you figure “The current iPhone Mini owners will appreciate the new design”?
The minis were 5.4”.
Nothing personal but your comment makes no sense.
theyayarealiving is a bot that just posts renders and one-line sentences confirmed! /s

but yeah i was wondering the same thing...it's likely going to be 6.1". current mini owners can buy a 13 or 14 at the same size.

I got a stern warning from the mods for suggesting that account is a bot despite its posting frequency and contradictory comments.

If that’s true, it would be a curious decision. I can’t see why they would put it on the SE and not on the regular 15. It made sense as a pro exclusive to upsell. But they’d be “down selling” in this case.
The non-pro iPhones will get an action button before the iPhone SE does.

How to piss iPhone 15 owners off...and to get them to upgrade I suppose.
lol if you think an action button would be a reason for anyone to upgrade

My ideal phone would be an iPhone mini with a USB C port. Unfortunately Apple doesn’t seem likely to offer me one.

I respectfully disagree, see my post #21. 🖐️
I just learned post have an order number…. 😂🤣😂🤣 THANKS!!!

I love my 13 Mini is the perfect size for me. Hoping for a 16Mini

Now where I was?? Ah, post #22 … tks again!

For me, the perfect size would be 5.8” with the current design with flat edges.
I’m using a 13 mini and what you described would be my ideal device.

Unfortunately I can’t see that happening because, at least historically, the SEs have been about repurposing designs, parts, and assembly processes. Your vision, sadly, wouldn’t fit that paradigm.

All that being said, if the dopes at Google were to make a Pixel in that size I’d be all over it since I prefer Android to iOS. The reason I’m using a 13 mini is because no one else makes a compact flagship other than Asus and their price/availability didn’t line up with what I want.
