iPhone SE (2016) iPhone SE - Are we at the end?

The T500/iPhone 9,7 looks like a SE replacement, but sadly there's nothing in the code to suggest the screen size. I see 3 options: 1) it's SE-sized (4" screen) with internals from the 7 + wireless charging; 2) it's 7-sized with 7 internals, but a different body (perhaps plastic body for wireless charging?); 3) it was just a test device and won't be released. It seems very unlikely that there are substantial leaks (as there always are) for 3 products but a 4th has remained a total secret. I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you...

I expect that they'll have a choice at a lower price point than the 3 new introductions. Based on the xcode data, it sounds like its based on iphone 7 internals. I'd guess its basically an iphone 7. If I'm right, there's not much to leak. I'd like an updated SE. Maybe they bump it some and leave it in the lineup, but the cynic in me thinks they retire it.

If I am right, I wonder what pricing would be. Now, the lowest price is an SE at $350. Maybe a repackaged 7 would be $450 with a $50 price drop in the not too distant future, essentially moving the lowest price point up $50.

I'm not a big computing on my phone or even talking a lot on my phone person. I may pick up an SE. There have been a lot of price estimates on the 3 new phones. I wish I knew what the lower end prices will be assuming there are lower price alternative(s) of course.

I don't really care that much about a new SE, I was just answering the previous poster's request for info on that particular rumor.
But as I explained in the other comment, if the new SE exists and will have the same body, there would probably be no leaks of physical parts, just code leaks like this one.

That’s an interesting point about how if the form factor were to remain, there wouldn’t be any real physical leaks indicating otherwise. But in the same respect, being there is no Hardware leaks, it also could indefinitely mean that there will be no Future SE either. The SE is the probably the one phone that really has a lot of mixed signals of where it will end up being or it was just a one time offering.

Once we reach the bezel-less limit, I have a feeling that folding/flexible screens that can be rolled up are the future. More screen in less space.

If March 2019 comes and goes with no update it would make it clear Apple is treating it the same way they treated the iPad mini4 which was released September 2016(6 months earlier than the SE). Both would be at 3 years(3 1/2 for the mini4) with no changes. I hope they do update the internals, with the iPhone7 cpu/gpu, rear camera and 2nd gen touchid it would be easy to manufacture and they could keep the price the same. Apple is the only smartphone company to offer a phone that small with those specs, if they stopped making it customers can’t really jump ship because nobody makes a phone that has the same form factor. People would have to choose to move to the 4.7 size phone or continue using their SE until it doesn’t work anymore.

The SE with the A10 processor would perform extremely well for at least 3 more years. They released the 2018 iPad using the A10 so it would make a lot of sense to release an SE using that chipset to keep costs down and keep SE fans happy.

If they remove the SE and I would have to buy a phablet-phone then I would have no reason to buy an iPad Mini, which I want to replace my iPad Air2 with, together with the new MacBook Air.

I sold two SEs on this forum over the weekend simply because the screens were too small for me. I own all large screen phones now and that's what I like. Also sold my iPad Pro last week because I barely used it in the last year because my phone screens are big enough.

Count me in - I'd buy..
Just keep spec bumping...that's totally an option I'd personally be ok with (vs the alternative of "nothing ever again")
 
It's not the end. SE's won't suddenly stop working once Apple axes them. There's a good few years yet...

That’s not what the thread is indicating. Its indicating is the iPhone SE at its end in terms of _not_being refreshed to another version or continuation as other models have, the iOS support will obviously continue.

Walmart has them via there Straight Talk service for $139 brand new. They have a ton of them, as well as the 6, 6s and Plus series. I'm sure they will carry them for awhile.

I doubt they spec bump it. But, it’s still on their website listed alongside the other models, and sold at third party retailers, just not directly from Apple. I wouldn’t be surprised if they continue manufacturing the SE and selling it in territories like India, as is, for several more years. So if you really need a new SE in the future, you’ll likely be able to get one for a few more years, thereby extending its life. The 6s and 7 aren’t significantly different in terms of performance, and that’s what the SE is — I suppose it’s possible that future iOS updates will push it to the limit, but right now I have zero complaints, unlike my 4 at the same age.

If there is a new SE, it definitely won’t be sold at the same price the old one was. It also won’t have a headphone jack. They’ll be building a phone to be positioned the same as the 5 was, to last just as far into the future.

Just to be clear, can all these cheap prepaid phones be used on Verizon as regular phones? Or only certain ones?
