I voted as "other". I just believe that Apple recognized that there was a significant number of people that wanted a smaller 4 in phone, and that a lot of people felt that the 5-5s series were one of the most liked phones ever, and they responded with the SE. They surprised me big time. In time I will replace my 5s with one, and I don't have to go shopping for cases all over again. It's a win-win for me!

For as much ranting and raving and foaming at the mouth I've read on MRF about how awful the SE is, I'm surprised at how few negative responses there are.

Ok actually I'm not; there's always a very vocal (negative) minority around here.

"An iPhone made with 3 year old leftover parts and overruns of new ones is definitely the best iPhone ever!", said the AAPL stockholder.

The more I use my SE, the more I'm enjoying it. I love the design, the size is a wonderful change from the monstrous 6S Plus, and it's got all the power needed to keep it going. Personally I hope Apple keeps the SE option around for several more generations.

Ack, why did you have to go and give me ideas! How do you alternate, do you switch your sim or have two numbers or what? I'm on AT&T.

To answer the original post, I think the SE is another iPhone but it's a fabulous idea and a really great option to give to parents and in-laws and children if you want to keep everyone on iOS for FaceTime and IMessage and you want the iPhone to be a little bit more future proof than passing around hand-me down iPhone 5s with dying batteries or 6's and 6 pluses that casual users are going to complain are too big.

I just back up on iTunes, and when its done take the SIM out. Then I put it in the other phone and restore from that same backup.

Oh, thank you! I'm so tempted this route myself now that spring and summer are upon us in my region. I want to go hiking and biking and do my usual landscaping work. I wear an Apple Watch but still have to keep the phone on or near me for everything to work. I would prefer it to be a little iPhone. My 6S Plus is too good to give up on entirely. When I need to make a lot of phone calls that's the phone I want to be on. But it's not the phone I want to carry on a hike. Or a run. Or while shifting landscaping rocks and heavy tree limbs.

I wouldn't think you'd even need to back up and restore, unless you don't use iCloud.

In any event, that process currently takes way too long to make this truly convenient to swap back and forth, like between work and going out. Maybe when the iPhone 7 comes out presumably with Lightning 2 support like the iPad Pro is capable of ...

The I phone SE is neither good or bad.

Apple has billions of dollars and they spend millions of dollars on research to figure out what will sell. I believe the smaller size of the SE is mainly aimed at the Asian market where Apples market share has been going up alot recently. I know I'm generalizing but on average Asian people are smaller built and thus have smaller fingers than North Americans, combine that with the huge population and increased spending power of Asias middle class and you get a successful recipe for the I phone SE. Even if it does not sell well in North America, I'm very confident it's doing well in Asia already.

Also out of all the colors, Apple choose Gold. Gold is a color associated with luck in the Asian market. (I bet if you break down where the most gold phones are sold, it will be Asia)

You may not like the SE but Apple is not dumb, they know EXACTLY what we need and EXACTLY how to market to us. That's why the company is worth billions because we vote with our wallets based on what we like.

I think you're right. I just checked my iPhone 6 Plus which I keep charged and backed up to iCloud under its own device name. It has all the updated calendar information and photos that are stored on my 6S Plus. I guess then I can just change the sims when I need to.

Yeah that's the thing I don't use iCloud. But it isn't that long less then 10 minutes. Realistically I could just swap sims and go about my business . But depending on the time frame since I last switched devices, I'd like my messages to be synced.

It takes longer on my 64GB 5s likely because I have a MacBook with only USB 2.0 and 7200rpm drive. I'm backing up and restoring around 40GB. That would likely be worse if I had a 6s & SE and were shooting 4K video and 12mp photos unless I put more effort into routine media maintenance. I'd say for me it would take about 40 minutes to backup and restore to a new phone via iTunes. Enabling lightning 2 will solve that problem on newer Macs though.

However, since I use iCloud, both devices would be in sync over wifi at all times, including text messages. Good to know I can just swap ATT sims without any other issues.

Thanks Bearbert and Mac128. I think I am going ahead with this when we buy my daughter's SE. It will be a couple of months...have other expenses to take care of first. I think this will be the best solution for me.

Other as in I don't care.

The best iPhone ever is still the original iPhone from 2007. Like Star Wars in 1977, it changed the industry forever. It is also the only flagship iPhone with a unique design on the rear as every other that followed was imitated with an s-model. Don't remind me of the 5c as that wasn't flagship and might have been the ugliest iPhone ever.

How could the iPhone SE be the best iPhone ever? What exactly did it bring revolutionary to the industry? Using a design from a few years ago with specs from the 6s series from over half a year ago? Hasn't boosted the expected decline of iPhone sales this year. Most people have already moved onto something bigger. It might the best budget and remixed iPhone ever. Might be the best compact smartphone ever. But best iPhone ever? Nothing new here.

Apple did a great job in updating the 5s form factor, while keeping the price reasonable.

There is no best phone ever, only what is best for you. With demand for this firm factor this phone is a hit that it deserves to be.
