For me it's quite simple: my 64 GB iPhone 5s has 38 GB of uncompressed audio, 7 GB of photos, 4 GB of apps, 4 GB of docs and data, and 1.25 GB of other stuff. That leaves me with a paltry 1.5 GB free, and I've already deleted a few apps and many albums I'd like to keep on my phone but can't for lack of space.
I have 64GB model myself but I can understand the justification for 16GB.

First of all, 16GB is cheaper so that one reason why it's so popular. But another is increased use of cloud for storing photos and videos you take and streaming music and video.

By the same token, not everyone wants to stream. Data cost is one thing. Having a reliable high speed coverage is another.

Anyway, I strongly suspect that iPhones will move to iPad style capacity-storage structure sooner than later (32GB, 128GB, 256GB).

. You must have grown up in one of those liberal households that pander to ever wish from their children. Most of us didn't grow up that way. We actually worked for what we got. Whining expecting a handout just resulted in conflict you don't want to deal with as a teenager.

Or they get hit with a heavy right cross.

Quite the opposite of todays youth. Don't know what percentage MOST OF US is.

The long arm of the family law or right cross:) hit me in the neck enough times to learn,
sulking doesn't get anything.

Same I did for my kids. Necessary basics always available, everything else had to be worked for.

Plenty of fights (...bbbut my friend has a phone in her room.....but my friend has a TV in her room,
and stay out until 10 during the week, etc. etc.)

"Mom wants to be able to know where I am" (At least that was clever reasoning)

Anyway, growing up without cell phones or even a phone was kind of a blessing.

We were never bored and could still talk to people. A lost art.

i can't believe that many people buy 16GB phones.
That's what I've got. It does the job.

I traded up from an iPhone 6. I found the 6 too large and too heavy. I like the SE.
I've always preferred 4" too. The 6 is too large to use comfortably with one hand. I only have it instead of the 5 because I was doing iOS development and wanted the latest, and I've always been annoyed that smartphone manufacturers act like everyone wants a brick to carry.

Once I moved from 5S to 6S+ I can't look at small phones without thinking baby's toy.

Anyway I hate the name of the SE and hate that it has lesser function (worse front camera, worse touch id, no 3d touch) .

What is apple supposed to name the next SE ? SE2 ugh yuck.:confused:

I don't know why Apple couldn't just wait and sell it with the 7 as a mini size.
7 mini
7
7 +

All identical features, specs and no compromises for size.

Why does anybody need more than 16gb? I'm genuinely curious to understand the usage model. I still have 5.8gb available on my 16gb iphone 5.
I don't think it could be explained anymore to death than it already has. My apps alone are more than 16 GB. The size of movies and photos continues to increase. When you're on vacation and taking thousands of photos and videos, you're not going to just upload all that to the cloud while on vacation. And having to have a computer nearby to continuously dump photos and videos to free up storage because it's constantly running out of room is not a viable option. And have fun shooting 4K video. One minute of 4K video on the iPhone is roughly 375 MB. Why anyone can't fathom why people could use more storage is beyond me.

This has been one of Apples smart moves in the last few years and I think all manufacturers would benefit from having phones in the same size brackets as Apple with decent spec (small, medium, large).

I recently bought my mum an iPhone se partially because all the decent spec Android alternatives I saw were too big for her liking and it was the perfect size phone for her.

If Motorola had made the Moto G4 the same size as the Moto G v1 then chances are she would have just got that instead.

Did anyone notice how the iPhone 5c suddenly disappeared in the charts.
That wasn't natural progression of handset replacement. That was "oh ****, I have the terrorist's smartphone" and "the FBI can get into this".

"first year-over-year decline in iPhone sales since 2003"

Given the iPhone was released in 2007, that is an odd stat.

Not sure where you got that quote from, but the end of the article states: "following the first year-over-year decline in revenue since 2003 and first ever year-over-year decline in iPhone sales." The first YOY decline in iPhone sales is in reference to this year, 2016. The decline in revenue is in reference to 2003.

I think it depends I how much media you put on it. Me for instance, I have a lot of music on mine in ALAC format which takes up more file space, even 320kbps songs can take up a bit more than 128kbps. So if you're a person who heavily uses your phone for music, pictures, movies, that can eat up space pretty quick. Just depends on what you use your phone for.

It looks like the model that took the biggest hit was the iPhone 6S. 6S+ sales stayed pretty steady. So people who were previously in the market for a 6S decided to get an SE instead. Says a lot about the 4" form factor.

That was already "confirmed" recently. 32GB definitely makes more sense in this day and age. Even technophiles who don't use their phones much can quickly fill up a 16GB phone.

I upgraded from my 16gig 5S to a 64gig SE.... I just honestly don't like big phones, so when they announced it, I knew I was going to jump on it.

Yep, I did exactly the same, I also wanted to be sure I had a headphone socket so I was not going to wait for an iPhone 7.

Hopefully by the time I upgrade again (3 years) the new headphones will be at a realistic price

I meant in terms of when the 7 comes out. I'm betting Apple won't update the SE at that point to use the A10 (or have the latest camera). They really need to get things in sync - release three sizes of phones every year, same features on each.

The SE has the same processor as the 6s/6S+ and the same resolution rear camera.

I recently "downgraded" from a 6S+ to an SE as I had issues carrying it in lighter summer clothes and I realise I'd forgotten how nice a small phone can be: I'd got caught up on the bigger is better mantra and really thought I needed a massive phone with me all the time. The SE has been like a breath of fresh air and I'm loving the increased portability and one handed use :)

Yeah, I'd agree with that: I can't see it happening with the 7 as the SE has only just become available in large numbers and will only have been out 6 months in September. I would like to see them give it an 18 month life and then release 3 sizes of the 8 (or whatever they call it) next year

Then you probably could get by with a flip phone with camera.

I like to use the ever improving cameras that take high resolution shots, or the live photos, or videos and also install some apps and music. Images alone, you can drain that 16gb to nothing considering the OS eats a fair chunk of that 16GB out the box. Many reasons why 16GB is no longer acceptable. If you still don't believe it, then watch Apple get rid of 16GB in September proving the fact. They are just the last to do so.

And your usage scenario = everyone's. Well, lucky for you Apple does make higher capacity iPhones.
The majority of iPhone users are lay people, not people going to this forum. Believe it or not, many are not app junkies. There are people that don't even install apps like Facebook, and use Safari instead for most of their needs. And this article showed it, that 16GB models are still selling.
