I wouldn’t worry about not being over the moon... I mean, if you woke up this morning and your beloved 6S had a brand new battery in it, a much better camera, more RAM, more storage, the fastest mobile processor on the planet, and suddenly supported wireless charging- would you be happy or sad?
I feel like it’s a no-brainer that you’re going to be well pleased with this phone!

Haha, I think you're underestimating how much I love my 6s (and my headphone jack!). If I hadn't stupidly upgraded past 10.3.3 a few months ago we wouldn't even be having this conversation. :-(

One big data point for me is battery usage with the Podcasts app, if it sucks as much battery on the SE as my 6s then the likelihood of return shoots way up.

I'm in the same boat and I even have an 8. Had it since day 1 and it's showing signs of wear, especially in the battery department. I'm happy with it otherwise, and I've never liked the larger form factor or Face ID as much as the 4.7" size and Touch ID. So getting a new "8" at a good price with better specs/camera and longer support is pretty much the perfect upgrade in my situation.

Not to be a jackass, but what good is the longer support when you’re going to run into the same battery issues 2 years from now?

I just don’t get upgrading from a 7, and definitely not an 8. Seems like a waste of money.

Well... you would get at least another 2.5 hours usage for an extra $200, w/ the XR.
It also has a much larger screen in not too crazy much of a bigger body, if I may play devil’s advocate & make your decision that much more difficult. 😂

I think the attention it’s received has more to do with the price than anything else.

Yeah, it’s not exciting for many of us here, but getting into the iPhone ecosystem for $400 is a big deal for many who could never afford to.

That’s what Apple wants. A $400 price point for a first time iPhone owner, will lead to other products like the Apple Watch, AirPods, etc. which is all tangible to the iPhone. The iPhone is the one product to be a ‘core hub‘ and everything else links together through other products in their ecosystem. It all starts with the iPhone to eventually ‘hook’ the consumer. At least that’s how it started for me with my first iPhone.

No jackass taken... :) That's a legit question.

A big part of the decision is getting something new that's the same form factor and close to flagship specs, while nowhere near flagship costs. If I can do that every 2-3 years, instead of paying $800 to $1k every 2-3 years, that alone makes it worth it. But if they don't have another SE type of phone in 2 years, and my SE's battery is showing wear, I'd be much more apt to pay to have the battery replaced on the SE with the A13 and a solid camera at that point, rather than upgrading to whatever larger and more expensive phones are available at the time.

I guess the same could be said for my 8 now - I could just pay to have the battery replaced, and then in a year or two get this SE for even cheaper... But I do also like the idea of getting iPhone 11-like photos (most of the time) in a smaller package now, rather than in a year or two.

Ordered one as gift for my father, It went through all the way till the last hop, and been holded...

Your package has been delayed due to events beyond our control. We're adjusting delivery plans as quickly as possible.

I ordered mine through my carrier (like a fool) so I have to wait. Oh well. Hope all the people who have them already are happy!
Yea I was trying to do it through Apple, but it kept erroring, so I ordered through Verizon.

You know what’s even worse right here in the good old USA? Having to look at those damned labels on everything stating that the state of California has determined that whatever’s in there to be cancer causing. And I mean EVERYTHING!

Face ID doesn’t like masks...
I keep seeing this written a lot, and I get it. But--and I hope I'm not jinxing anything here--that is hopefully a temporary problem. I'm hoping this phone lasts me about four years, like my current (about to be former: my new SE is right now getting updated from my backup) SE, and I hope that I'm worrying about masks for only [low number] months.

Who knows, it may be a permanent state of affairs even after we are past this pandemic. Then Face ID in its current form really does become a little more problematic. I'm just hoping that's not where we're headed.

Seriously debating swapping my launch model iPhone X for the 256GB variant of the SE. Face ID going to be a pain in this post lockdown world of masks, also A13 chip.

Yep, I’m trading in my iPhone XS for one. The standard wide camera on the SE takes much better photos, the battery life is better, the CPU is faster, no more Face ID issues. It’s a free swap for me using Apple’s trade in.

The screen is shorter (at least it’s uncropped 16:9), and I’ll miss being able to touch the screen to wake, but I won’t miss the weird OLED color shifting as you tilt the screen slightly in any direction. That’s bugged me since I got an iPhone X and then later this iPhone XS.

Your profile pic matches your post so well!

I bet it bugs you a little that the latest $399 iPhone is pretty much as powerful as your $1449 iPhone.
Not in the least I don't want no tiny screen

Okay?..... Yay?..... You were never the target audience for this product.

Oh, and it’s “iPhone” not ”I Phone”. Are you sure that you’re not using an Android phone ATM? 🤔
So sorry my spell check annoyed you not

I like how you’re doubling down, true to your profile pic! Just don’t follow his advice regarding bleach! Hopefully you’ve got bigger hands than he does, or that IPhone 11 Max would be way too much to handle. 😂

It would look great if it were a white phone. The black front ruins it for me.

It’s an incredible value (for Apple). So in that sense it is newsworthy.

The “reviews” are absurd however. What is there to review? These parts have already been reviewed.
Not in a $399 device. And the A13 is being utilized to enhance the camera, it’s got 3GB RAM....

If Iphone is a planet with moons liks watches and airpods, then the Mac is the sun. Your frame of reference will vary, but for me an Iphone is just a peripheral unit that goes with the Mac. The cheaper, the better. If there were no Mac, I would probably buy a Xiaomi.

That's an interesting metaphor, and matches what Apple USED to claim. For a while there, after the iPod but before the iPhone, your Mac was supposed to be your "Digital Hub," the center of the digital universe, with all your peripherals out on the spokes. Your iPod, your camera, your digital picture frame, whatever.

That changed with the introduction of iCloud. At the first introduction of iCloud, someone (I think Craig Federighi) used the phrase, "The truth is in the cloud," which I haven't heard them use since (in syncing lingo, "the truth" is the location that has the definitive version of your data, against which any other version can be checked to see that it is up to date; before iCloud, your Mac was "the truth"). At that introduction, Steve Jobs described it as demoting your Mac to be "just another device." The new "digital hub" was iCloud. It was the official end of the "Digital Hub" Mac strategy.

But using the Mac in that capacity, as you're using it, still DOES work very well! It's old school, definitely, but works fine.
