Apple might just have hit the nail on the head with the new Iphone SE.
I’d rather they hit the camera bump on the head. And the sides while they’re at it; flatten those edges a la 1st gen SE. Then I’ll buy it.
Apple might just have hit the nail on the head with the new Iphone SE.
Originally Apple planned for 30-40 million. With the pandemic, maybe more like 50-60 million.Srs who will go with this old outdated huge bezel iPhone 6 design?!
The previous SE was at least a generation behind the current flagship. The fact that this one is the same speed as the current flagship is really, really impressive.
I'm surprised by the recommendation to buy the higher-capacity one. With iCloud now able to offload photos and apps I'm not using, I see little reason to have a phone with massive capacity. I would buy the 64 GB version and it would do just fine.
Incidentally, I had my old SE replaced in December, and as part of the troubleshooting with my old phone, I set up the new one manually, instead of automatically porting all my apps over. The resulting digital minimalism has been amazing. I only load up stuff on my phone that I really need. I went from four screens packed full of apps to fewer than two.
iPhone 4/5 design? Sounds like you want the same old thing again after all.I would buy the “new” SE without a thought but I just can’t buy the same old thing again. I’ve been an iPhone user since 2010 but I’m slowly getting tired of it. My only hope is that the 12 will get that rumored iPhone 4/5 design.
I’ll switch back to a FaceID iPhone later on when I don’t have to wear a mask all the time. I like the longer screen and FaceID too, despite its quirks.
The 5.4” iPhone 12 will be even smaller 🙂I didn’t mean older people in particular, just those who don’t give much thought to their smartphone when purchasing (4+ years after the last time) other than considering Android vs. iOS. It’s a much more non-techy casual demographic. That’s not a knock in any way, some people are interested in tech in general and tons of people don’t swim in that pond.
I myself am actively considering selling my 11 pro (I wanted the smallest phone possible for 4+ years coming from a 6s) and replacing it with an SE.
Many people want change for the sake of change. The mindset is rampant here.Folks used the same desktop and wall phones for 40 years - but a 4-year-old design is "so old"....what a bunch of ninnys... VW made the Beetle for most of last century but now classic time-tested design is "old" after a couple of years...Has everyone gone nuts?
I’d rather they hit the camera bump on the head. And the sides while they’re at it; flatten those edges a la 1st gen SE. Then I’ll buy it.
He must have done something to piss off Apple. Not surprising, he seems like a bit of an ass. Good luck to him, Apple tends to have somewhat of a long memory. They don’t tend to reward those they think have done them wrong.Meanwhile, Unboxed Therapy is reviewing masks.
Recently he decided to write a letterbeggingasking Apple to send him review units. I just find it funny that he repeatedly states he doesn't care if Apple responds to his email or whether they send him devices for review. Yet he made a video on YouTube about it and even pinned it on his channel. I guess he feels left out that people are reviewing the iPad Pro, the Magic Keyboard and now the iPhone SE... and he has to go buy them and wait for delivery.
Anyways, the iPhone SE seems like a great device and sets a new bar for phones under $400. This is an easy phone to recommend to anyone who doesn't need the latest and is on a budget.
The bump is there because of the physics of camera optics. As the iPhone got thinner and thinner, it got thinner than the camera needed to be to produce high quality photos.i thought the bump was required, but on the se and 6s it wasn't really; the SE had no bump and used the same camera as the 6s.
It makes me think the bump was an artifact of the manufacturing process and the industry copied Apple for no reason.

Think this. Apple tried hard from iPhone 4-8 to keep iPhone look symmetrical especially front. Than Apple let go symmetry concept when introduced iPhone X with top notch and nothing similar at bottom.
So, Apple could have increased the screen towards top side giving more screen in the same iPhone 8 size frame by reducing thick top bezel like most android phones top part of screen. Bottom could not be reduced because of beloved Touch ID. This could have given 2020 SE new identity. Wasn't that difficult.

You can do that on Apple.com.Anyone who compared the SE to an iPhone 8?
It's true you can set up an alternate apearance, but with a mask it kicks back a "Face Obstructed" error. Someone found an imperfect way to fool it, by wearing half the mask at a time, but it's not perfect and definitely not a deliberate feature. Why are people repeating this? Apple thought of this. Settings - FaceID - Alternate appearance
I don’t have a FaceID phone and I know this..
I've read a couple of reviews, and it's interesting that a lot of them like the home button vs no home button.
From the UX point of view the home button/lack of home button seems to be a wash, in that there's a benefit to no button (screen size), but there's also more load associated with no button (more awkward).
Think this.
Apple is only able to offer a phone this crazy cheap every 3-4 years or so by reusing EVERY SINGLE part that they possibly can, that’s already been in production for years & they have reached economies of scale with.... processor from the latest 2 phones, casings they’ve been making for many years now, etc.
The reason this phone can be cheaper whilst maintaining a profit margin is because there’s very little r&d to recoup, no new manufacturing techniques to work wrinkles out of, etc.
You're talking about new design, new tech, more r&d, etc...
What isn’t that difficult is seeing why they went their route, not yours.
3 gig ramAny news on the RAM?
Any update on the screen over iphone7 or 8?
I really need iphone 7 to SE comparison, and what I am going to miss from the iphone 11.
Could you guys tell me if the home button is like the old iPhone 6 or the newer Haptic button like iPhone 7?
Thanks!

Face ID technically shouldn't officially work with a mask anyway:
- It may not recognize you if you don't always wear the same kind of mask.
- Other people wearing the same mask may be able to unlock your phone. Since they're effectively wearing a part of your "shape."
