Sure, I'll blindly go for it ...

In terms of ‘Tap to Wake’ I have no idea-the Tech Specs don’t mention it but then again nor do the Tech Specs for iPhone 11 (which does). But, given the inclusion of Haptic Touch it would be a curious omission if not.
I will keep my fingers crossed

If AirTags isn't cancelled, 2020 iPhone SE and iPad Pros not including U1 is a hint that AirTags will work with non-U1 devices, albeit at reduced capabilities (e.g., accuracy).

I think AirTag will work on older iPhones able to install an updated version of iOS. The U1 may help accuracy when you’re close to the object but I don’t think is mandatory.

It's too bad they've got too many big screen iPhones all sporting their dreadful flickering OLED screens. At this point it looks like a new 5.5" LCD (Plus) iPhone ain't never gunna happen again..... (but we can always hope)

Ultra-wideband seems like an odd thing to put in your phone when literally nothing is using it. There must have been some government contract that Apple wanted to get with UW as a must-have. There doesn't even seem to be an API available for it.

It seems like it would be great for ad-hoc multi-phone communication; you could form a mesh network of devices that all talk to each other, so a team/squad could synchronize continuously and in realtime without infrastructure.

I'm confused. Wouldn't Apple want to sell AirTags to as many people and devices as possible? If they're still planning to launch that product in the near future, why are they excluding the latest iPad and iPhone from that capability?

The timing really couldn’t be better. Stimulus checks are on the way, money is tight for a lot of folks but they may still need a newer phone.
I would really hope that folks use their stimulus checks to pay down credit card debt or build up emergency funds rather than purchasing a new phone. If their existing phone can last until after things are back to normal, until folks have jobs again, then I think it’s in their best interest to hang onto the existing phone until it’s dead.

A few months from now Apple will be selling refurbished models of these which will be just as good as full-priced models and will last the same length of time, but will be easier on the wallet.

I’m honestly considering a step down. I’ve always been one to get the flagship, plus-sized phones. But now that I have the iPad Pro, and prices being what they are, the SE is actually looking pretty good. Not a whole lot I’d be missing out on. Maybe screen quality.

I actually prefer LCD so consider that a plus. Pixel density is sufficient for me so far. But my eyes are aging.

Two opinions here

1. U1 chip is too expensive for now to include universally (partially flawed opinion due to the high cost of iPad Pro)
2. U1 chip (and the Tile counterpart) are not being used or exploited to the level Apple would have hoped and therefore not worth including until next upgrade cycles

We're going to see another SE in 3 years, another iPad Pro in 12-18 months and by then the iPhone 12 Pro will be out. It'd be amazing if the iPad 12 gets U1 again but still no other products with the chip.

I thought Tile clone relied on U1 or at least that's the opinion of the Mac-Pundits.

The U1 inclusion can't be that expensive relative to an iPad Pro to include.

What?
What do you need your iPhone for? Do you want to run Crysis?

I use mine for text/phone. The new SE is capable of that I guess.

Apple never told us what the U1 chip is there for, how can you be outraged at something that was never announced lol

What are you talking about?

I’m not outraged, because I don’t understand.

You don't understand yet because the real products and APIs are delayed, which is Apple's fault.

That defeats the purpose of the stimulus checks. See Japan's Lost Decade for an example of what happens when people think like you. As an extension, that's why EU has had negative interest rates (-0.5% right now) for the last 6 years.

Does it use Qualcomm ??
Most likely be the same thing in the iPhone 11 (Intel). You cannot necessarily just swap modems in and out. It would have to be designed that way from the start for the A13 and Apple isn't going to use Qualcomm modems until 5G.

5G just around the corner, but this looks like a great phone.

Yeah I’m in a 5G city, but if you’re not, and you don’t mind missing some features, this really is a great phone.
