since the basic overall model that this new iPhone SE is based on in the iPhone 8, its not surprising that the new iPhone SE does not have U1 capability.

AirTags usefulness is based on pinpointing, even within a room, the precise location of a device.
so it helps to find a device under a table or on a chair or between seat cushions.
incredibly useful for that case use for almost anyone really.

but i don't actually find it a compelling function.
for me, still being able to locate yr device left at yr office vs. left at the restaurant is still the most important to me.
and of course the new iPhone SE has this, as do all current iPhones.

according to rumours, the U1 chip only works with Bluetooth - not GPS.
so usefulness of a U1 chip when you have dropped yr phone for example, on a hiking trail is much reduced.
this applies to any use case where crowd-sourced Bluetooth tracking is not as useful as GPS is.
hoping that a U1 equipped iPhone user was close to a lost new iPhone SE while hiking or such case is secondary for me.
GPS remains king.

for people who want to know which cushion in the house it fell between, its unfortunate its not included in this budget model. and identifying which part of the department store it fell out of yr pocket is also a tremendously useful case use for U1.

Wow, so the iPhone SE has an A13 chip but the highest end iPad Pros still have a version of the A12. That's not good.
Do you mean the non-pro iPads? Yes, they've got the A12 so due for a refresh. The Pros have the A12X/Z which is still faster than the A13. Much bigger, beefier chip. Presumably Apple never made an 'X' version of the A13, preferring to wait for the A14 which should be a bigger upgrade.

Your fault when not being able to recognize since 12 years that Apple releases the flagships in September

They don’t release handhelds in September. They release iPad Nanos.

I’m not outraged, because I don’t understand.

You must be new. Here we always get outraged when we don’t understand.

I’m honestly considering a step down. I’ve always been one to get the flagship, plus-sized phones. But now that I have the iPad Pro, and prices being what they are, the SE is actually looking pretty good. Not a whole lot I’d be missing out on. Maybe screen quality.

Your brain and eyes will adapt on the screen. I downgraded from XS to an 8 because the XS is too big for me.

After a couple of days, I don't see the difference anymore until I look at my wife's XS.

From a consumer standpoint, they wouldn’t care, nor know the difference anyways. It’s negligible in that respect.

It has to be considered now that Apple may have shelved AirTags.

Both their latest new devices are now excluding the chip that would give the AirTags a competitive advantage over the mere Bluetooth Tile.

Everything on the SE is fine, but I´d never trade FaceID for TouchID.

Same. It’s funny because many on these forums assume anyone who doesn’t buy a top of the line phone doesn’t have the money. On the contrary, I think it’s becoming a question of principle for many people, myself included. The slower pace of improvements and rising price tags just make it feel ridiculous for a better screen and extra lens or two. I’ve been least happy with my XS compared to all prior phones.

I really hope Apple can come up with some must-have feature to “wow!” me in Sept, but based on the last few years.....

Anyone using their stimulus check to buy a phone did not need the stimulus check.

They’re sending checks to everyone who made under 6 figures last year, regardless if they have a job now, regardless if they need it. Most people getting a check aren’t in need of it and will spend it as they see fit. The number of people who do need the check is very high though, so it’s good that they’ll receive the help.

I just (a few weeks ago) bought an ipad 7 gen to replace my ipad 2. I can't see spending $1000 on an ipad when I can get one with 90% of the functionality for $270. My iphone on the other hand is another story. It's with me all the time so I'm willing to spring for the top of the line as I see fit. I'm a camera buff and taking pictures is important to me, so I like all of the camera doo-dads.

This September based on the rumors, I feel that urge to upgrade from my Max. We'll see.

By popular demand, that Apple is out of the door. I still have my iphone 5s, (actually two of them as they are my backup-up phones) too small, not really usable.
I still have my old iPhone 4, 5 and 6, 6S and they’re all perfectly usable. I don’t know what your problem is. On the other hand my 8 Plus makes me really nervous when I’m using it and it’s almost impossible to use it comfortably with one hand.

I still have my iphone 4 as well. Great looking phone and aside from the fact it's 10 years old, the screen is too small...not enough information as compared to my Max. Same with the 5s. Some things are doable like streaming. However, streaming to the max is a much better experience (for me), than streaming to the 5s.

That's not a problem for me. I use my iPad if I want to work with more information. My sentiment is about you know, what screen size in a phone is enough for some people? I mean, you could have an iPhone with 10" screen. Apple can make that.. but is it a good idea?

Apple seems to think there is a market for bigger phones, even if they are the most pricey. However, as I said I have my phone with me most of the time, not my ipad, so I don't mind buying the bigger phones. Everybody has their own use case.

There are many hardware compromises and people are getting a rip-off from it at that price point.
