Pointless to you, interesting to me. I wouldn't do it. Why don't you do a proper video with your phone and test it out.:D

why should i do that? i already know that it isnt sealed enough...

but for life scenarios: people had phones with them when they are outside (cold) and come back to inside - how the phone tolerates possible condensation is much interesting than placing a phone under water and impossible angle for air escaping easily - the air isnt coming throught the screen...

in a real life, if you drop your phone to water, it is going to be in some short of angle all the time sinking down to the bottom and air can escape much easily. no one is going to place it gently to be in "a flat position" when sinking and e.g. on the bottom of the lake. these tests have nothing to do with a real life and hence quite pointless... nothing to do with tolarating condensation, water drops (e.g. raining/snowing) or humidity... interesting? yes... but pointless.

If it was Apple would have said so.
Not so. Actually water resistant and legally water resistant are two totally different things. Apple's financial team probably did a risk assessment on saying how water resistant the SE is and realised it'd open up a can of worms. People would quote it often and try to claim it too much under warranty. Too costly for Apple, so APple didn't mention it.

The SE proves that Apple's practice of delivering less than excellent models prior to this one paid off... Again.

Just like denying iPhone lovers a modern spacious display for three long years did. The iPhone 6 burst onto the smartphone scene with its 4.7 and 5.5" displays to critical acclaim as though Apple had done something revolutionary.

It's good to be Apple.

People don't know what they want until Apple tells them what they want.

Or the iPhone 6s is just that water resistant. I'm not trying out a washing machine test because you don't think the test was worthy enough.

Or this was just a tryout for the iPhone 7.

sinking the phone under the water is quite pointless... air has difficulties to escape and water cant go inside without air escaping at the same time... also the surface tension and the cohesion plays significant role here..

it would be much interesting to see test results in a high humidity and testing the condensation too. or at least they should put the phone under water in a slight angle to help air to escape.

This explains why my phone had no water inside the headphone jack when it fell In gutter while I was on holiday. I shook the phone and no water came out of the holes. If you go on eBay you will water damaged 6s and 6 for sale.

I very much doubt the SE is water resistant, its based on the 5S which is a 3 year old design.

Only the 6s / plus is water resistant at this point

iFixit will likely have a tear down posted soon after release day next week.

That's the only way we'll know if Apple sealed off ports and switches. As of the iPhone 5S, I believe only the home button is sealed with a gasket.

Well, the 6s is based on the 6 design and yet is noticeably more water resistant than the 6.

The iPhone doesn't have any actual ratings of being water resistant. Any water resistance is a consequence of its design. Caution still needs to be heeded anytime when using an iPhone around water.

Conversely a device rated for water resistance caution needs to be heeded when exceeding its water resistance rating.

Not that difficult, if they don't say it nor has it passed any former testing then it should be avoided. That doesn't negate water resistance inherent to its design.

Yes but Apple has added a gasket to the 6s, they also had to make physical changes to the case, they haven't even bothered with the SE.

I'm not sure we really know that yet. 6s looks like 6 as SE looks like 5s and the breakdown details came somewhat later.

I have a dive computer. It is waterproof. You can take it to 50 meters and it will work as intended, no problem. I have a water-resistant watch. I can wear it in the rain or in the shower and it's fine. Apple will make the iPhone slightly resistant to water: a splash might not ruin it. But they're not going to tout that because they don't want people thinking splash-resistant means dunk-proof. How do you quantify in a warranty document how much of a splash a phone can survive? Better to make it as resistant as you can without adding too much cost, while not making any promises. There are waterproof cases if that's what you want or need. Get one of those if you plan on getting your phone wet. Or buy a phone that is really waterproof, and pay the higher price.

Damn, the SE lasted a whole hour under water

I like mine more and more as the day goes on :D

I wonder what Apple did to increase water resistance.

iFixit's tear down of the SE did not reveal any gasket between the display and body, although they are clamped together very tightly and require suction cups to separate.

The ports on the bottom of the phone are sealed with sticky foam tape, but that's the same as the 5s. SIM card slot does not appear to have a gasket.

Here is a link to a water test on a 6s and 6s plus. Over an hour dunked underwater, so I would conclude they are unofficially water resistant!
The problem is after. Lots of reports of condensation under the screen from water that seeps in but can't get out.

Apple has said nothing regarding water resistance.
You can buy a new one and take a try,lol

Or just keep an eye on YouTube. Somebody will take one to 40 M under the ocean, drop one from a tall building onto concrete, feed one to a water buffalo, strap one to a stick of dynamite... If you can think of it, someone will do it and post a video. ;)

I get the impression that Apple has made this phone more water resistant than phones used to be, but not enough to make any claims. You're probably okay if you splash a tiny bit of water on it and dry it off right away. But for actual water resistance, that's what they make those waterproof cases for.

Tests already started, as mentioned in an earlier post at https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/iphone-se-water-resistant.1963735/page-2#post-22747263

A bunch of people are throwing SEs into water on YouTube now,

They're doing surprisingly well.
