iPhone SE (4") small edition?
iPhone (4.7")
iPhone Pro (5.5")

However I don't think the SE will ever ship the same time as the iPhone and iPhone Pro. Just how it's playing out this year I think is Apple's plan moving forward. The SE will always ship in the spring and get the improvement of the flagship release six months prior (like how this years new SE phone is getting the 6s internals, minus 3D Touch)

- Spring 2016 = iPhone SE (with 6s power)
- Fall 2016 = iPhone and iPhone Pro ("iPhone 7" power and whatever new design and features)
- Spring 2017 = iPhone SE (with previous "iPhone 7" power)
- Fall 2017 = iPhone and iPhone Pro (whatever 7s power is and new features)

What I think this will do is, it gives Apple more constant high sales throughout the year and an extra peak sales time. Usually it's been September for launch sales, peak again in December for the holidays and then just kinda coasts along until next fall for the new launch. Doing it how I think Apple will set it up will have the same September for launch sales, peak again in December for the holidays and a new third peak in the Spring (March) for the SE launch. Which will keep overall iPhone sales high for longer.
If their goal is to just maintain high sales throughout the year I'll be fairly disappointed. As I've always that their goal was to produce the very best products.

How does that effect the product quality? I don't see your logic there.

The goal of the iPhone SE isn't purely to maintain high sales for longer in a year. (That's just an advantage if they keep it to a Spring SE launch and keep the 4.7" and 5.5" to fall as usual.) It's obviously to fill the gap for people who want the smaller 4" and haven't upgraded off their 5/5s because of it. And it fills a lower price point while offering pretty much latest tech.

Filling in lower price points is again a focus on sales.

I firmly believe that a company should focus on quality first and sales should follow the pursuit of quality. By releasing a lesser product in the form of a smaller phone in a sense is already a reduction in quality.

Having said that if the new phone has the same specs as the iPhone 7, I'll apologize for being wrong.

I still don't see your logic. Size does not determine quality. Was any iPhone released prior to the 6 low quality when they all launched? No.

Why would the SE have iPhone 7 specs before he iPhone 7 is even released?

It's already know to have 6s specs, because 6s is the most current phone and we're still in the year cycle of the 6s.

Then they probably should wait until the 7 is released.

It's no of lower quality but phones from a previous is obviously of a lower quality than current phones.

To me it's just a question philosophy and beliefs. If I can't get my point across I apologize.

So how would the SE be of lower quality of the current phones now? It's getting the same A9 chip with the same always on M9 coprocessor. It's getting Apple Pay, it's likely getting 2gb of RAM, it's likely getting the second generation Touch ID. Those are all current and latest features.

You're attributing quality to the specs. It's getting current specs all while filling in a lower price point because it's smaller, and a size quite a few have held off updating for a few years because they prefer that size. Apple has said they predict roughly 35 million sold by the end of the year on just the SE. Releasing just in time for the "predicted" first quarter in 7 years to not see growth. Timing of a release does not relate to quality.

You know consumers don't care about sales or growth at all. They trust Apple to make the decisions for them.

Specs is quality in some regards. Things like battery life, the speed of the phone, the different type of sensors, the radio used, weight and even the display used have variance between the version of iPhones.

Well you are correct in some regards. But we should take into account the timeframe in which the phone would be available. The later it's release than the more appropriate it'll be to just use the same SOC as the latest name the iPhone 7.

Read a comment from another forum member that OLED might come to the SE first. I don't think that's going to happen but would be great if it did.

Keep dreaming... You're more likely to win lotto .

I actually think it's a brilliant move on Apple's part to release this in March.

Those with the older phones have an option now and those who will be eligible for a new phone in September /October can pick this if the iphone7 isn't to their liking. Provided Apple puts 2gb in the SE it will be a sure fire success.

Really digging this concept. I would love it if this end's up happening.
Anybody think that there'll be any differentiating features that make this better other than design? Waterproofing? Better camera?

Not keen on that concept, it looks as if it has a cheap case on when you look at the back and sides.

I don't think they'd release something that's better than their flagship phones (the 6s and 6s Plus).

I love it. That's what I wished the 6 looked like from the beginning. Glass fillers where the antenna bands are, just like the 5/5s.

Most recent leak I've seen, posted by micGadget a few days ago:

It looks like a smaller iPhone 6s. I can't say I like the design very much.

That's a 6S. Doesn't look smaller at all, and I'm pretty sure it's from the same source as this video here:
and that phone was already proven to be 4.7-inches.

If that's the final version of the iPhone SE, honestly the iPhone 5s still looks way better! :/

Question - SE seems to be quite generating much buzz - was there more / less buzz around the 6S launch on the MR forum?

There's always buzz around new iPhones in particular, but really any new hardware. Definitely quite a bit of buzz around the 6s, and potentially somewhat more even.

Having gone from 6 plus to 6s plus , I can't cope with a 4 inch phone nor go bigger than the plus....

I'm the opposite to you. I went from a 4S to a 6s plus and I can't handle it... literally. I have big hands but lugging around that brick is not enjoyable nor is not being able to use a phone with one hand anymore. Jogging with the thing is a nightmare as well.

I can imagine ; I kinda got used to it seeing it's also my kindle on the go

My SE is lovely, I'm very happy with it. Going from the 5s it's not the massive upgrade some might be seeing, and I can understand people coming down from a 6s not really 'getting it'... but for me the standouts are:

1) Battery,... I didn't kill it on my commute this morning, that hasn't happened for 2 years
2) Reception seems better. Not entirely sure what they changed to support this but it's noticeably better in my terrible reception house
3) Multi-tasking doesn't respring my apps constantly. I multi task a lot and this is a big BIG winner for me.

All in all, I'm a very very happy man, and my partner loves hers too. I'm glad they did it (maybe less glad they didn't make 'some' design changes to it, but it's still a beautiful phone)... very happy customer again.

Going from a 6 to the SE. Love it! And my old 5 case fits perfectly. I feel like I've returned to an old friend. Everything I wanted and a terrific camera. I airdropped some 4K video and live pictures I shot over to my 12.9 iPad Pro. Smooth, fast, and seamless.
