You know what thats not bad a implementation. They don't come installed but rather the user has a choice

because like with OS X launch including Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser Jobs once said “since we believe in choice ...” ;)
Next it’s going to be China!
Not a big deal. For new users to iOS this may help speed up use of ecosystem to be frank.
There is no need. In China people use Chinese apps anyway. Tencent, Alibaba, ByteDance create apps that are so much more powerful than anything the West has to offer.
By powerful, do you mean the sheer # of citizens that use such e-commerce apps or that their government has heavily funded such business to have a rapid and influx - without gov restriction within its borders - to implement new infrastructure such as banking money sharing to purchasing or transferring funds especially to those that don’t have banks? (aka WeChat)

This will be the request from all countries one by one, as they progress and start taking more control and promote their own developers. It's not a bad thing per se, not considering any code, if any, gov has added to snoop in.

So they put in a Ad to Gov supported apps in the setup process.Next.

EDIT: I kind of like this. There are a bunch of governamental/citizen apps such as to pay and deliver the IRS, health and social security and so on that people use that probably this would make sense in any country.

Strange. The article says the law requires software to be preinstalled on all devices sold in Russia. This is merely a pop-up with suggestions. While I obviously prefer Apple’s implementation, it seems to be an exception to what is actually required.

If such a pop-up promotes local and safe alternatives to US dominant apps that spy on you (Facebook) or funnel money outside local economies (Amazon), I’m all for it. However, I’m not sure what exactly is behind the intend here. If this were a EU policy, I would applaud it.

I think what likely happened is that Apple was able to negotiate for an exception to that rule. It probably helped that Apple only has a small market share in Russia, so they had less to close if they were to exit the country compared to say, China. This is probably as much of a concession as they will be able to extract from Apple, and Apple possibly “capitulated” as a face-saving gesture to them.

Credit where credit is due.

Promoting local apps is never a bad thing. Way too much centralisation of services to the USA with these companies even in the past being deeply imbedded into the OS. I would love to see way more regional app and service development with the likes of Facebook and Amazon being all but replaced by local rivals.

Calm down US people. NSA, FBI, CIA, Facebook, Google already spy on your devices. There is nothing wrong with suggested apps if it’s not pre-installed. In China, they don’t suggest, they remove the features directly.

Well maybe. I think Truckloads of data are also already collected by Google and Facebook - so is this worse I don't know.

I think the main difference you might be getting from the suggested apps would be things like recognition of Crimea in the maps. What else really?
Besides having users users on local approved apps what about to support local digital economy?

I don't see this being any good. Who picks the apps? The government? How does an app get considered? Donations to a political fund? I see this being riddled with corruption and favoritism. I don't need my government recommending to me what apps to install. I can pick my own apps. Glad they can skip past installing any of those "recommendations".

Oh yes because you get nothing but the trüth from Pütin and Neo-Soviet approved apps.
Truth or not, if it's good for Soviet's national interests, then it's good that Putin is going for it.

When you think about geopolitical problems for other countries, you have to keep the best interest of the other country in mind. You shouldn't criticize Putin because he did something that's good for Russia but bad for American influence just because you are American or one of the friendly Anglo-Saxon 5-Eyes countries.

Giving them an advice that's good for you, but bad for them, is just hypocrisy.

Government can choose based on national interest.

Platforms like Twitter and YouTube receive covert directives from the US intelligence community and the State department to steer the public opinion and to manufacture consent for the benefit of the US state and US national interests, often to the detriment of foreign states, even ally states.

Things like this has been used widely in the US to manufacture public consent for war. Think Iraq, think Iran. They are doing it now to prepare the public for a potential war with China.

In Psychology, this is called, Systematic Desensitization. Before you know it, they will imprint that idea into you, and you will feel that it was your idea all along.
