Small phones have worse battery life. I just shake my head at the mini owners complaining about the battery. Then people want a pro mini, which would be even worse unless you want a phone so thick it weighs as much as a Pro and does feel like a bar of soap.

The iPhones are already large enough. While the mini market 'demand' may only be a small percentage - that small percentage is still a huge number of people who would prefer not to have a massive phone in their hands, pockets, or bags. Bring back the mini :p

They'll be fine. Forgot 15cm distance, that's just Apple being overly cautious- testing showed at 17mm was the real cutoff point. Which means with the current Qi2/MagSafe standard there's no safety issue posed by the phones themselves.

Edit: As for accessories, I can't judge, as the Qi standards people hide the tech specs behind a pay wall, so I don't know if there's limits to how powerful the magnets in accessories are allowed to be, or just minimums they must conform too. Similarly, as far as safety goes, I don't know if minimum thermal thresholds and wiring standards are also stipulated. One would hope so...
I understand that you’re in love with Apple but all I did was speak the facts. I can also post research by several sources, including Apple admitting that it’s true. But I’m not going to waste my time. And I like Apple too but I must acknowledge the safety issues are real.

Hopefully this means the smaller Pro will have a larger battery life. The Pro Max is too big for my pockets (and hands) but the regular Pro has really bad battery life.

Check my posting history if you think I love Apple. Just don't go posting bogus "facts" that have been debunked, especially not on the topic of heath and safety. If your "alternate facts" were true people would be dropping dead all over the show 🤦‍♂️ 15cm range would cause a problem almost every single time they used their device in bed, pretty much. Apply some grey matter...

Great rumor. Slightly bigger, slightly upgraded internals, same high price.

iPhone is stale and has been for a few generations now.

Considering there is practically nothing new for iPhone 16 Non-Pro model. Compared to the Pro with New Screen Size, Zoom, Better Camera.

I am wondering if they will also bump the iPhone 16 starting storage to 256 as well and potentially another price bump? It is almost certain the 16 Pro will follow last year's Max and start with 256 costing $1099.

$1199 16 Pro Max
$1099. 16 Pro

$949 16 Plus 256GB
$849 16. 256GB

$799 iPhone 15 Plus. 128GB
$699 iPhone 15 128GB

$699 14 Plus
$599 14

$429 iPhone SE

They’re going the wrong way. I’m not an iPhone mini stan, but the regular size is too big. I think 5.8 or 5.9 would be a sweet spot for me. The iPhone X was 5.8” and it felt sliiiightly too big too, but if you give me the more modern design of today’s iPhones and small bezels, with that screen size would probably be about right.
Totally. One advantage to the Pro was that it was slightly smaller than the non-Pro, and it's still a bit on the large size for a normal human hand. Make the Max the giant-screen phone, but I think lots of us would like the non-Max Pro to be a bit smaller and more elegant.

Phones are a big part of people's lives; we spend hours on them each day. Those of us who prefer smaller phones will at some point have to upgrade. And many of us really appreciate the Apple ecosystem, so it will be difficult.

Imagine if mattress manufacturers stopped making firm mattresses.
Seriously? Upsetting is losing your child or your job or a loved one. This is just a replaceable phone that no one is being forced to buy.

Absolutely. And for whatever miniscule amount of space it would take up, I’d happily sacrifice a little battery life if they promised to keep the smaller pro equal with the larger pro on camera features. I want that tetraprism zoom but I’m NOT dealing with a phone that big. If it meant sacrificing an hour or two of battery life for the extra space taken by the camera, I’d make the sacrifice. I have tons of opportunities to charge at home, work, car, etc. And in rare cases where I won’t have those chances, I’ll bring an external battery.

I'm not belittling more severe suffering that people go through. I've lost people in my life. I still say that it is understandable for people to be upset over there being no non-android smaller phone available. And even amongst Android options there are few and not too small either.

Wish if Apple designs a photography oriented smaller device to be called say, iPhone 16 PE (photo edition). Different from 16 Pro, it would have the comfortable size and shape of 11 Pro, maybe a tad thicker, but a with a magnificent quad-camera unit, including 0.5x, 1x, 2.5x & 6x, all 48 mp sensors. Sensibly protuding optics can be acceptable for improved IQ.

To make this possible, battery could be shrinked to some point that can manage one day under normal usage (similar to iPhone 7 level), minus there won’t be any utilities like 120 hz screen, wireless charging, physical sim port and taptic engine etc. all for saving space.

It may have a preinstalled collection of photography-related apps, e.g. Halide, Spectre, Slow Shutter, or Apple’s own integrated solutions.

And the swipe panorama needs functional updating. What can be improved? It can produce less stitching errors, or warn user to try once if result is not fair. It may have better exposure compensation between dark & light areas. It may have a pre-adjustable aspect ratio. For last and most important, it should enable multi-raw or arbitrary area fill (there is one app which you simply fill the area of composition by moving phone, yet it does not support tele lens, only 1x) Stitching is a good old method for higher resolution static images.

I have a feeling my next phone (which will be in a few years, just got a 15 Pro Max) will be a non-Max variant, as by then the size of the non-Max will be as big as the Max is now.

Seriously, pockets aren't getting any bigger, and neither are hands. Why do they keep bumping up the size of the phones? I've already reached a point where nothing more than my phone can fit in my left pocket; if it were any bigger I'd have to get one of those dorky belt clip phone holders that were popular in the 90s.
Same here

Ever since the Plus/Max sizes first sprang up, I had no interest in them, since at that size, that is absolutely giant for a phone

And like you said, it also really doesn't help that pockets in pants are not getting any bigger

So either Apple and everyone else needs to pump the brakes on screen size, or garment manufacturers needs to get a clue and make pockets that are large enough to fit these now-giant phones
