Verizon today experienced a major outage, which it now says has been resolved. To make up for the inconvenience, the carrier has promised that all affected customers will be credited an unspecified amount, with more details to be shared soon.

"Today, we let many of our customers down and for that, we are truly sorry," said Verizon.

iPhone users with Verizon service were generally unable to make phone calls, send text messages, or use data over 5G or LTE due to the outage.

iPhone users typically see "SOS" in the status bar when a carrier experiences an outage.

Apple explains what "SOS" means in a support document:
If you see SOS or "SOS only" in the status bar, your device isn't connected to your cellular network, but you can still make emergency calls through other carrier networks. This feature is available in Australia, Canada, and the United States.
Verizon said that customers who are still having an issue should restart their devices to reconnect to the network.

Nice. AT&T did the same thing in the past too:

Likely what will happen. 1 line? $5. 5 lines? $5. 🤣

But honestly, 1 day is only a little more than that for a 5 line plan.

Verizon, you can start by eliminating the $40 upgrade fee that is simply bull $h!t when we buy the phone directly from Apple.
Another reason I loathe eSIM...

Ha. I recently bought a new iPhone, paid in full but not activated. I went to Verizon and added it to my account. They SIM locked it even though I don’t owe them a penny. It’s 100% my ****ing phone.

I have Visible by Verizon service and wondered why my phone was in SOS Mode earlier today. I just thought the building I was in didn’t get a reliable signal.

As far as I know, Visible didn't have an issue.
I also use a phone on a Visible plan and didn't have an outage.

Which is interesting because I am on Verizon and never had this outage where I am even though some have reported in my area as well but I still had service on Verizon and was able to make and/receive calls.

It was a pretty terrible outage this afternoon, but all considering, Verizon is still the top dog network in my area and I have never had issues outside of today.

You get $2 for every phone line you have with us. We hope this 4 dollars restored your faith in our terrible company.

Ported out and won’t be coming back Verizon. Worst service and customer service I’ve experienced.
