So if you need SOS you're SOL?

Or is it you are SOL if you see SOS?
I was sending messages to my wife early in the outage via SOS satellite, but an hour later it said temporarily out of service. I'm guessing/hoping that was intentional to give the bandwidth to actual emergency calls.

Ironically, my $25 a month Visible plan that uses Verizon towers is fine. My wife’s $100 a month Verizon plan has SOS and we are standing right next to each other and use the same phones 😂
Yep. Our Spectrum is fine. This a problem internal to Verizon.

Doctors should be on FirstNet, which is through AT&T. Not exactly the best play by a doctor.
There is poor AT&T coverage where we live, the hospital system has contracted with Verizon and Verizon network extenders around campus and even in the underground and interior parts of the buildings.

We both have new phones and only one of ours is down so I wouldn’t think it was user hardware related.
Many of these carrier issues are based on billing server problems. The carriers are going to make sure they get paid before allowing a single call/message/data on their network.

I had Verizon until earlier this year. Switched to Mint mobile to save about $100/month. It definitely has a few downsides (deprioritized during the eclipse while in a large crowd so I had no internet for an hour or two, and no RCS for iPhones yet) but overall I think its been a very positive move. Especially with how much I've saved and now this.
I'm happy to know you're having a good experience on Mint. People here at my workplace have switched to Mint and are having a similar experience.

I'm a big fan of these discount cellular carriers that piggyback off of the big three. I switched to Visible, which is a subsidiary of Verizon like Mint is a subsidiary of T-Mobile. My wife & I are saving $50/month, connectivity for voice and data is just as reliable as with Verizon but cellular data is measurably faster. (I used SpeedTest before and after the switch to check). Plus, Visible doesn't charge extra to add my cellular Apple Watch to my plan, whereas Verizon wanted to charge me $15/month to provide service to my AW.

Service was restored for me about an hour ago, but now RCS doesn't seem to be working. When I tap on "Carrier" in Settings > General > About, it now just say "Voice & SMS" next to IMS Status. RCS used to also be listed there. Anyone else having issues with RCS on Verizon after today's outage?

My service came back quite oddly. I was getting fed up and was going to switch to AT&T. I went to their web site, chose bring your own device, selected new customer. It asked me for the imei number. I entered it, it identified my iPhone and within 5 seconds Verizon started working again. Weird.

No problems here; just sent one

Back up in San Diego area about 30 minutes ago after being down all day. Voice in/out and data (including UW) all working.

this is so interesting because last night for the first time ever I turned off Call Forwarding and WiFi Calling on my iMac and iPad lol tired of them ringing when my phone rings!

and I had no idea about this outage considering I was working from home all day and on WiFi.
