I heard they had some major fiberoptic cables that got cut somehow related to the storm. Impacted mostly western half of the country.

It's definitely pretty inconvenient. I can't even login to a bunch of different accounts that have 2FA because we can't receive text messages!

I have been out of service all morning, using a 16 pro max. My husband uses android and he as service. I can text my son but not my husband who is in the same room with me.
I know what you mean…..(that you texted as a test if service) but it’s so “funny” to read that….. because thar’s exactly what so many do these days….. text people they are in the same room or house with!

Location really doesn’t matter so stop saying “working in X”. I have two Verizon phones here, one works one doesn’t. What seems more useful may be what plan you’re on or which phone you’re using, not where you’re located. The one that is working is on a different account and is an older iPhone.
i Thought the new phones were the issue until I started seeing posts that it’s New phone, too.

It's definitely more advantageous to use an Authenticator app than an SMS text. Especially in instances like this.

THIS! I'm using Iphone 15 on Verizon - SOS, no Wi-Fi calling, yadda, yadda. Wife = Iphone 13, perfectly fine (verizon). Daughter - iphone SE 2020 - fine, son - hasn't replied b/c in school - iphone se 2022 (I think). All Verizon, all same plan. I THINK mine is the only one with e-sim...if I remember correctly.
My mom says her 13 is fine (she’s in NY). Hubby’s and my phone are new 16s his: pro mine: pro max. All on same Verizon account under my name.

I can text her but I can’t call her.

I live in SoCal, I still have no service, but my wife does. I have a 14 max; she has a 12 Max

A somewhat ironic turn of events :).

I've been looking at the 5G bands my iPhone and iPad support in common.
They are identical except the iPad is "lacking" n14, n26, n29, n30, n48, n53, and n258.
I did some more digging and found out that n2, n5, n48, n66, n67, n260 and n261 are the bands used by Verizon. n48 is the only band the iPad doesn't support but the iPhone does - it is used for mid-band 5G.
Trying to understand why the iPad is fully functional and the iPhone has been in SOS mode all day.
Someone with the technical knowledge care to explain/speculate?

Omaha area, no issues with iPhone XR, iPhone 14, iPhone 15 Pro, iPad Air 3, and iPad Pro M1, all on Verizon. Knock on wood…
