Hey,
So I was thinking about iPhone storage after reading about how Samsung allows people to add a 200GB SD card to the phone. I think all of us here agree Apple will never do this. But, I do think the iPhone 7 will be having some different storage options.

Idea (1):
  • 32 GB
  • 128 GB
  • 256 GB
Idea (2):
  • 64 GB
  • 128 GB
  • 256 GB
So, I want to know, do you guys see this as possible? Obviously we haven't heard much on this, but who knows. 16 GB just isn't applicable this day in age. I think Idea (1) is the most possible since it has the really low one then a higher more moderate one like we currently have.

Cheers,
Saphiria

Samsung's official max micro sd capacity is 200gb. Unofficially it is either 1 or 2tb.
Hopefully the minimum for Apple will be at least 32gb the next time around. But as a corporation, their responsibility is to their share holders and not the customer!

Yes, sadly. Which is why I wish Apple would go private again, but that is pretty much impossible. I do agree though, I would like to see a 32GB option. I store most stuff on the cloud and stream music and videos, so 32GB is perfect.

As posted on related threads...I don't expect the base to change for at least another year. IOW, you have to pay $$$ to get more than 16gb.

What makes it worse is the fact that storage doesn't even cost that much for Apple.

Wasn't Samsung releasing some of their recent/latest phones without SD support (or a removable battery for that matter)?

Er, I also hope that Apple will release iPhone 7 with 32 GB space. However, it may be too hard. For one hand, 16 GB space model is cheaper, and more people can afford it. For another hand, 16 GB iPhone can accelerate the sale of 64 GB storage iPhone. It can make more profit. Because when people find 16 GB iPhone is not enough for them to install apps, take photos or upgrade to the latest iOS version, they will be more likely to switch to 64 GB iPhone.

Going by the average I would have thought maybe the below.

32Gb
64Gb
128Gb

I know a lot of people could say 'I would use a 16gb easily' I just think 16Gb is a bit outdated now, but I fully understand the cost side of it as well.

Once again I could easily clear 256Gb, but going by average I can't see this happening for maybe another year or two. Which when it does I think the entry will be 64Gb.

The iPhone 7 won't have a 32GB option. The cost difference is so tiny between the 16GB and 64GB. How could they justify a 32GB priced phone that's what 25 or 50 dollars more then then the 16GB? The 64GB is only 100 dollars more then the 16GB

Storage will be a deal breaker for me this year.
There's no way that I'd pay the current entry level 6s price for an iPhone 7 with 16GB.
This is a flagship phone in 2016.
16GB has been the entry storage option since 2012, four years on without an increase would no longer just been annoying it will become embarrassing.

Who is it embarrassing to?

It's an embarrassment to Apple. Such a fundamental and now inexpensive component being held back for four years.
Apple is a business yes, but if they hold back any longer on storage it will for me personally be a step too far in holding back simply to have customers shed another 100€ for adequate storage.
Anyone who believes that 16GB on a flagship phone costing 750€ is not a step too far is delusional.
Especially as only 12GB will be user accessible space is available generally speaking.
A 4K camera, Live Photos and modern apps will eat this up, even for those like myself who use a lot of cloud storage providers.

I don't know what Apple will do, but with words like embarrassment and delusional to describe internal ram?

So your saying that IF apple releases the i7 with 16gig you're taking your business elsewhere?

Indeed, IF they do then I will for the first time in almost ten years.
It will be a large nail in the coffin for me and iOS devices.

I don't think we will see a 256GB iPhone until the iPhone 8, or even later. A single 256GB chip is still too expensive. We will see a 256GB iPad before an iPhone.

They did. But THEY obviously listen to and care what their customers want. The sd card slot is back.

That is kinda silly but each has to make their choices. Hoping for a 256GB but will be happy with another 128GB.

Let us know how your Windows phone is working out for you.

I switched from a 128GB 6 to a 16GB 6S plus. Money wasn't a factor in my decision at all. I just had so much clutter on my 6 from apps I installed and didn't even use. Also I found no reason to put my music on my phone. The only time I don't have a data connection is when I'm in an airplane. I always have my MacBook Air with me and my music/videos are on that.

I don't take much video or pictures but when I do I just transfer or upload them immediately.

I currently have 8.7GB free space. Until Apple implements some sort of file manager where I can "drag and drop" files easier I have zero need for more storage.

My point with my post is the various storage capacity options fit for different usages. Would I like more storage for the same price, sure why not, but do I need it? No.

Do I think that Apple charges too much for only 16GB of storage? Yes, but I chose to purchase this as nobody forced me.

That said if Apple wants to increase the entry level storage I would be all for it even though I could get by with less.

Yes, it is insane for anyone who like to take photo/video to get 16GB iPhone, and iPhone still is number one photo camera in Flickr, where has lots of amateur/semi-pro/pro photographer, so a lot of people take pic/video with iPhone.
16GB existed not only because 16GB flash is cheaper than 32GB, most important, it will keep people from stop paying $100 for 64GB, if they need more than 16GB.

In a supposedly tough year for Apple in revenue point of view based on several analysts, I will not be surprised we are going to still only get 16/64/128 for 7 and 16/64/128 plus 256 for 7+, another differential factor for Apple to get $100 extra by continue push for 7+ as premier, compared with Apple offer both 7 & 7+ with 256.

Depends on the photos and videos that are taken: if we are talking about a few photos here and there and perhaps an occasional short video--which is something it seems plenty of typical casual iPhone users do--then 16 GB can still be just fine.

There will always be different usage for any smartphone/laptop/desktop, any storage device. There will almost be someone use 1% and someone always max out.
Not sure what is the point from you?

Responding to the "it is insane for anyone who like to take photo/video to get 16GB iPhone" part of it, saying that it's not really just "anyone" that falls into that (and not "insane" at all for those people).
