There is no MMS support on the iPhone for a simple reason:

you can still do it through e-mail. Stop bitching and read ModMyiPhone..

Still have to go through hell to recieve them. I dont send that many, and i wasnt able to send them on my last phone either so its not a huge deal for me, but when people want to send me one, it sucks that i have to tell them i cant recieve it. In fact i tell them to email it to me instead so i dont have to embarass myself with the fact that my phone cant recieve MMS for a more embarrasing reason then my last phone.

i dont know why either but when i had my sidekick it wasnt able to do MMS either... so who knows... and the sidekick is a messaging machine! that made even less sense to me.

Probably for some really stupid reason, like Steve Jobs doesn't like MMS :rolleyes:

pretty sure this is actually the real reason. He prolly figures everyone should just get an iPhone and email each other. That's an especially lame argument because the two types of communication exist in different spaces. I don't want my email clogged with stupid whimsical mesages from my friends. That's what MMS is for... <sigh>

Wait wait WAIT...the sidekick cant do MMS?!?! That doesnt make sense at all...

So how do you send an email to a mobile if you don't know what phone operator it is on?

Is this really easier to use than simply sending the MMS to the phone number. That is why MMS is so popular, because it is so simple to use.

It is totally stupid not to include MMS :confused:

It doesnt make sense at all. In addition to knowing their number I have to know their carrier to send a photo? give me a break.

The camera's only purpose has been relegated to snapping a photo for a contact photo:rolleyes:

First off, I think that Apple is working on this, and I think it has something to do with backing up SMS, and MMS conversations with Mail in Leopard. That's my last hope. When you restore a iPhone, you loose all your SMS, and to me (and probably Apple) that's unacceptable. That's my thought on why they are waiting... now...

I am so SICK and TIRED of people saying that just use email!!!!! That's a bandaid, workaround, and IT IS NOT A MMS REPLACEMENT. Most all of the phones in the world can't do email with attachments. My old piece of crap Motorola did it!!!!!!!!!! arg.

<sorry>
Really.
</sorry>

This is a great question. I had a T-Mobile SideKick 1, 2 and 3 and none of them supported MMS. They always wanted you to email the photos you took.. just like the iPhone. They would never tell me why.

I'm sure there are some people on here who would defend the iPhone even if it couldn't make phone calls :D

The argument that they left it off because you should use e-mail doesn't make any sense. They included SMS didn't they? And you could also e-mail text to another phone just like you can an MMS.
The worst part is receiving an MMS. You have to go to that stupid AT&T website and put in a message ID and password. And it's near impossible to actually do this on the iPhone since you can copy & paste.

i'm not talking about fannying about to do MMS in a round about way, i'm talking about it being a FEATURE of the iPhone.

i dont use MMS that often, but its cool if you're out and about and you see something funny, or whatever, its cool to be able to send it. i *know* you could mail it, but not everyone has email on thier phones!

Knowing Apple, especially these days, they could be plotting (the new word for developing when referring to Apple) to introduce some sort of proprietary MMS on steroids (iMS?), which would no doubt cost money to use, and be on quadruple secret lock down. In fact. they'd probably make it so you can only send/receive pix of Steve Jobs in various moods, or different colored Apple logos.

Three possibilities come to mind:

1. Apple wants customers to use it's own .Mac services, such as Send to Web Gallery.

2. Apple has performed a cost benefit and determined that MMS doesn't really add that much value to the iPhone and is something most customers won't use.

3. Apple just hasn't gotten around to it yet.

Also, MMS doesn't have the same value on the iPhone as it does on other handsets, even lesser ones, that feature both video and voice recording. I would hope that if MMS does come to the iPhone it would come bundled with both video and voice recording applets. I'm curious how useable MMS would be over ATT's 2.5 g EDGE network.

True, I agree, but we don't have MMS on the iPhone and there seems to be no upcoming MMS feature in an upcoming update, and even then, it will break all our 3rd party apps and unlocks again, so why are we upset? Let's try and learn some UIKit and the like and WRITE our own one maybe..

Not to mention that site is entirely in FLASH!

Speaking of which, I just got "called" a "vinegar bag".. is that even a bad thing? I'm not quite sure.
I've never heard that expression in my 27 years of life. So I can't help you there.

Actually scratch that, I would imagine he meant "douche" bag in a dumbass way.

For the past hour I have been trying to think if this could be solved by a 3rd party... but I think its a network thing too... the network has to know that the iphone doenst do mms (since we get the awesome veiwmymessage.com). So it doenst look like 3rd party is the solution.
