My iPhone 5 is AT&T. I paid for unlock service and it was unlocks a long time ago. My new one from apple I got I think is unlocked. I took my mobile SIM card and it went from no service to T mobile.

Does that mean it is unlocked ?

If you put a T-Mobile SIM into the phone and T-Mobile is showing up as the carrier, then it is unlocked.

Sometimes the phone has a "no service" thing come up when its looking for signal. If its not unlocked, I think it'll tell you that you have an invalid SIM card.

What about a 5S paid in full price from best buy. At&t version. It that unlocked ?

Do not buy full price phones from bestbuy. They are $50 more than what apple charges and to be honest most bestbuys wont sell phones out of contract.

If you want to get unlocked phone, just go to the apple store online and pick the unlocked version.

But a full price AT&T phone bought out of contract will be unlocked when you activate it thru iTunes.

Keep in mind that any AT&T iPhone 5 made before the Spring of 2013 (when Tmo launched their LTE network) will not support the AWS band Tmobile uses to get LTE service, so you'll see '4G' at best.

A guy on Craigslist bought an iPhone 5S AT&T full price from best buy. Showed me the receipt. He says it's locked (it's still sealed tho so he never personally tested it) however I belive it's unlocked.

What do you think?

It's not unlocked if purchased from BestBuy even at full price.

If you want to use T-Mobile why not just go to a T-Mobile store and buy the T-Mobile 5S?
