Is this a common feature? I'm pretty sure most phones can't do this. Most likely, this is a network limitation; AT&T would have to build a web interface for texting.

You can use hundreds of different ways to send free texts using your computer
receiving them is the problem
as far as i know there is no way to send and receive texts using a computer that will use your cell phone number

b) just using e-mail
Completely false. Why do people just say things without taking 2 seconds to check out if it's true or not?
My Moto Atrix could connect via wifi to my computer and I could send/receive messages through that interface. And it appears other phones can do it as well.
And, as mentioned, it's much much easier to A. Multitask if you're using just one device, instead of having to keep picking up and using your phone and B. Can type out messages faster with a full size keyboard instead of using the phone--which also ties into A...just makes everything overall faster if you're already on a computer.
