does it reset all your locations or is it still there. Please advise.
While mine is not illustrious as yours, it had history back to March of this year. Prior to that I was on Android so when I did iPhone to iPhone, Xr to 11 it worked.

All so, thanks for providing a way to find, that info is buried.

I'm trying the direct wireless phone -> phone, but it doesn't seem to be working: After scanning the new phone with the old, the new phone is still displaying the 'point cloud' to be scanned saying "Waiting for Other iPhone - Position this image in the frame of your other iPhone" and the old phone just has the spinning 'loading' icon. I've not been prompted for any passwords like I'd expect from watching the process on YouTube. It has been like this for ~30 minutes. Any ideas?

I had to cancel and restart mine because I received a phone call on OG device while transferring.

In the end I gave up and tried an iCloud backup restore which seemed to work.

What is included when you do phone to phone?

My current phone is on 14.2 and I know in order to do a backup restore on my 12 Pro, I’d need to update it to 14.2 first.

But I’ve been thinking about restoring as new. Something I have not did...well ever. I’ve just used my backups. I am kind of curious to see if my phone runs better as “new” but really wonder if it’s worth the trouble. I’d have to download a ton of apps one by one.

Even if you setup as new, you can still do phone to phone for some stuff correct? (Photo libraries that kind of thing?)
I just checked the support page and there's no mention of them having to be on the same iOS.

It’s not really about them being on the same iOS version though. You can take a backup from let’s say an iPhone 6 that wasn’t iOS 13 compatible and restore it on a phone with iOS 14. I don’t believe you can take a version of a backup from an unreleased iOS version like 14.2 and install it on 14.1.

so I just learned the hard way as again as I knew it would happen. My 11 Pro Max has 14.2. I'm not sure what the 12 Pro has on it yet as I'm still stuck on Passcode to unlock. I'm figuring that I'll have to put the beta profile back on and updates before I can restore. It wanted to restore from my work iPhone.

I’ve set up as new every year in the past, but this year I’m going to do a wired transfer with the Apple Lightening to USB3 camera adapter.

How does it work if your device uses one AppleID as the main purchasing ID and a second AppleID for Messages, Facetime, iCloud?

We have two phones. One uses AppleID 1 for both and the other is split with AppleID 1 and AppleID 2 as detailed above.

I transferred my data via iCloud and significant location was reset and all my
locations were gone :(

I really need a confirmation if it transfers over if u selection iPhone to iPhone.

thank you!
Couldn’t transfer from iOS 14.2 to 14.1. The good news is that I was able to update my iPhone 12 to the newest beta version, and then the transfer went smoothly

Awe man that stinks. Pretty sure the 12 is going to come with 14.1 so you would have to install the beta to get that backup installed or wait until 14.2 comes out to the public which I’m sure you probably won’t want to wait on.

I plan on doing the direct phone-to-phone hard-wired migration method like I did last year. Seems like the fastest and most direct way to go. The only "hiccup" is if you have an Apple Watch you're supposed to UNPAIR your watch first so it does a backup to your old phone.

How do you initiate the phone-to-phone transfer after updating the 12 to 14.2?

I've always done a restore from my Macs. Is phone-to-phone better? Seems like it would be slower, but I've never done it before. Seems the majority are doing phone-to-phone.

I thought I saw online that the iPhone to iPhone transfer asks you if you want to transfer the Apple Watch over so that you don't have to do the unpair and repair. I'm still waiting for my 12 Pro to be delivered so I can transfer my X to the 12 Pro and also my Series 3 SS

My understanding is that only a restore from a Mac back-up gives you a true copy, i.e. with app passwords and data still intact, while both restore from iCloud phone-phone leads to a download of the app and you have to enter passwords all over again. Also which restore keeps all photos on the iphone?
Can somebody confirm?
