What is the procedure for deleting photos saved from Mail?
What is the procedure for deleting photos saved from Safari?

Go to the Photos app (the default one, with the flower) and find the ones you have downloaded from safari/mail. Then edit->delete. It seems that if those photos have long names or some characters in the names are not recognized, the import has a problem. I myself had pictures with japanese letters. So whenever I tried to plug it in the import didn't work (for some reason).

After I syncd the new phone with the older back up, it did not launch iPhoto again and still will not see it.

Maybe the old backup had photos with problematic names. So when the backup was restored , so where those photos. Find the ones that were downloaded and delete them . If you need them , just email them to you first and then delete them. It should work.

It worked

I deleted the photos that I had saved from the emails and the iPhone sank (syncd) just fine with iphoto. Will we be able to save images from emails again or are we stuck saving them from the email program? We will see.:apple:

well, I'm still unable to get iPhoto to see my iPhone. It worked up until mid-October, then stopped. I've deleted all of the photos from the Photo Album that aren't in the Camera Roll. verified that all of the pictures in the Camera Roll were taken by the iPhone. Rebooted, restored, changed USB ports, nada, zip, bupkis.

Image Capture can see the iPhone but none of the contents.

Any other ideas?

bug...

I did the same thing paximadia did and it was recognized in iPhoto and image capture. This is clearly a bug with the iPhone. I tried everything else mentioned and it did work till I deleted my photos that were saved from mail or safari. The hard part was just figuring that out but I didn't have too many saved from emails. I searched these forums and apparently Apple is aware of this issue and hopefully it will be fixed in future releases.

Iphone Photos to Mac - Apple Responds!!

this worked for me

i read through forums for 3 days to find an answer, i was able to get the photos/videos/audio recording of my kids to my mac with the use of 3rd party software called diskaid, but i was really annoyed that i had to resort to non-apple software. my iphone 3gs should sync with my macbook pro.

then i did this

Make sure iPhoto > Preferences > General tab has the Connecting camera opens: popup set to iPhoto.

and magically after fours months of frustration, my iphone is recognized in iphoto again. hope this helps some of you

i had the same issue (able to sync w/ iTunes but not able to detect as camera in imagecapture or iphoto) but w/ the able deletion of any photo that was from an email (i have 6 of them) that for what ever reason, it stopped recognizing it as a camera. once those photos were deleted, reconnected to machine and it automagically recognized it in both iphoto and image capture. this problem "was" consisted w/ both of my hackintos machines and my wifes mac book but is fine an all now.

I tried all of the above fixes with no success. Finally deleted the iPhoto app and all of the various bits of it (except for the library itself) and reinstalled. And that fixed it.

another solution

I'm having the same problem. Every now and then iPhoto refuses to import new pictures from the phone by showing only grey dotted boxes or doesn't show a single picture at all. Mostly that comes with saving a picture through safari/mail.

Deleting these pictures on the phone doesn't work for me, so I've been looking for another solution. When I logged in into my computer as another user iPhoto is importing every picture from the phone including the pictures saved with mail/safari. After importing them I deleted every picture from the phone and it is working again with my old account. Creating a fresh iPhoto library doesn't work, but another user does. !!??

Ok, time for further investigation.....

Now there comes the STRANGE part. Logged in as another user, you can open your original iPhoto Library (read/(write) permissions required) which refused to work with your normal user using the new user and import every single picture including safari/mail pics....

Well, the problem must sit somewhere outside of your iPhoto Library but inside of your user's account. That's where i need help: cache? sync settings?

now it works!

deleting the photos on iphone from emails sent to me solved the problem!
thanks!

Deleting the photos from mail did the trick

I tested all the above mentioned tricks (reset device & laptop, uncheck the sync option on itunes, even i went as far as to uninstall itunes, etc).

Desperate to make it work i deleted all the photos I had download from the mail (long search & destroy task!!!) and simply crop some of them that I didnt want to lose and, presto! That did the trick :D

email photos fixed it

Hey after trying these i deleted a few pics i saved from a website and it worked after i closed everything and relaunched. has anyone submitted this bug to apple?

thanks dudes!

iPhoto does not recognize iPhone

Hi. I am trying to sync my iPhone with iPhoto, but it does not seem to work. Any suggestions? I have set iTunes to sync iPhone with iPhoto, and I have set iPhoto as the default picture program. However, I cannot get iPhoto to see iPhone when the iPhone is connected.

same same

So I'm (well, my bro-in-law) is having the same problem. Many, many photos in his phone. 2000 in fact.

Using PhotoToMac to move photos over, which is a godsend, but would love to have a "select all" feature. :)

Can't wait to see this resolved.

This feature is very high on the PhotoToMac todo list, but cannot be implemented with the current version of iPhone OS (3.1.3).
However, iPhone OS 4 will come to the rescue.

Gumcutter

Thanks Gumcutter! This worked like magic. My iphone showed up on my iphoto 2 days ago, and then it didnt today and I hadn't saved any new emails. I tried your fix and it worked instantly.

Finally... Iphone to Iphoto

Iphoto would not recognize my Iphone. I tried everything. BUT the problem was finally solved when I deleted "one" photo that I had downloaded from the internet two days ago. Thanks for the tip. I would have never thought that was the solution.

My iphone doesn't show in iPhoto either. I deleted all photos from mail/safari - only photos that aren't taken with the iphone some screenshots that I have taken of my theme.

Could this be a glitch for jailbreakers? Does anyone with a NON-jailbroken iphone have this problem??

Anyway PhotoToMac worked for me, but I still would like to get iPhoto working.

ALSO, I have this other glitch in my camera roll. I have like 10 photos that all of the sudden (months ago) turned black, and the white thing frame around each image has disappeared from these images, so if I have two of these black ones consecutively it'll look like a thick long black bar (on the length of two images, but a little bit thicker and longer because the frame is just black as well).

What the hell is this? I have around 10 of these. When I click on say 8 of them, them to make the image large, I just get a large black screen (as if the image was just all black in actuality), and the other two will turn up as the correct image when I click on it. Anyone tried this?

iPhoto wasn't seeing my 3GS either. Opening Image Capture fixed the problem: not only did Image Capture see the phone, but suddenly iPhoto did too.

Photos can be imported from a digital camera if both your computer and your camera have built-in USB ports and your camera is compatible with iPhoto. Check your computer's specifications if you are unsure if it has built-in USB ports. See the iPhoto Device Compatibility page to see if your camera or media reader is compatible with iPhoto.

This worked like a charm. Thanks!

iPhoto wasn't recognizing my iPhone 3GS.

I launched Image Capture--my iPhone was in the list of devices.

In the drop down menu, where it says "connecting this iPhone opens..." I changed the dropdown menu to open iPhoto.

If at first you don't succeed.....

You are probably going to loose all pictures taken with your iPhone unless you can mail them to yourself, but this worked for me:
Go to iTunes and click on your iPhone in the left column (Devices)
Click on the Photos tab (across the top)
Be sure the sync option is checked and the dropdown menu is set for iPhoto
If any albums, faces or events are checked, uncheck 'em so no photos are set to sync.
Click on the Sync button (lower right corner of iTunes).
This removes all of your stored pictures.
Quit iTunes
Open Image Capture
Click on your iPhone in the left column
At the bottom of the left column, be sure the dropdown menu is set to "iPhoto app"
Quit Image Capture
Restart your computer
Restart your iPhone

See if the iphone appears in iPhoto once everything is back up and running. If it works, go back into iTunes and reinstall the Albums/Events/Faces of your choice.

may be simpler than you think....

I also got a new iphone 4, restored 995 pics from 3G phone. After taking some new pictures, i plugged in new phone as always to transfer via iphoto and could not see the phone on the left as usual. i pushed all the buttons etc as above and just left it on and connected while researching problem online.

after a solid 3-4 minutes, the photos and phone finally appeared and worked fine... is there a chance the new phone is doing more in the background and taking longer than we gotta-have-it-now people are expecting to wait?

give patience a try.

Hi,

Just read your post. I was having the same problem.

Here is the solution.

Make sure iPhoto is open.

With iPhone in the Dock, turn it on -- or perhaps better put, unlock it or bring iPhone out of sleep.

You may notice that iPhoto will refresh.

Next in iPhoto reclick on the "Apple iPhone" under the left iPhoto source menu -- this should enable the "import" feature.

I think the key is to have the iPhone awake and active.

Please post and let me know if this works.

Thanks,

Dante
this worked for me
