Tony, these are phone salesmen. They could say anything. Also, the people who have gone into stores and been told "we don't know" aren't likely to be posting on here, are they?

I'm waiting for the first post quoting an O2 salesman who promises that the 16GB phones will also pack a 10MP sensor.

So why are O2 employees saying the exact opposite? Why are some stores still stating that *no* O2 stores will open before 9am, and why are many, many stores saying they won't get the 16gb?

They can't all be making it up... it wouldn't make sense - they're driving away customers.

The one thing we do know 100% is that phone store employees aren't told anything in advance, only care about that day's commission, are generally part time staff studying for something else and really, really don't care and are rarely competent.

True, although I have spoken to 1 O2 store manager and 1 CPW area manager (dont know what that actually means in the CPW world) but both said 9am start and no 16gigers...

Lets hope friday 4th brings us the news we all crave.

Just to add to the info in this thread, I spoke to someone in the O2 store near me and they were taking names/numbers down and would start calling people from 1st July to come in and do all the contract paperwork before the 11th.

I also got asked which model I'd like, and he said that they were certain they'd have 8 and 16 gig models, but unsure about the white 16gb version. I was also told that they were going to be reserving phones for anyone who has gone in and done the contract paperwork beforehand to pick up on the 11th from 7:02am.

There will be NO reserving! "He as spoken, and we saw it was good"

Now that He as said there will be a rolling worldwide 8am launch do we assume o2/CPW will be opening at 8:02/8:00 respectively?

The no reserving rule is a global one, however, that's not to say individual O2 stores won't break it. Look at the publishing industry for one. Loads of big players like WHSmith etc, break embargoes and sell for way way below the stated minimum price. Why? To get a sale. I have no doubts O2 stores will be doing the same by holding iPhones for people so they can guarantee that sale. It's a dodgy world is phone sales - you only need to look at the CPW lark where they said insurance was compulsory to see what I mean.
