To those who are holding out hope for a return of Touch ID in the 2018 iPhone - sorry, Apple has moved on. And, apparently, Android licensees are doing same:

Relevant quote:
“With smartphone brands moving away from fingerprint biometrics and toward 3D sensing, Kuo expects yearly shipments of Android devices equipped with 3D sensing components to outnumber those with under-display optical recognition by two or three times over the next two to three years.”

Makes sense, Apple doesn’t go backwards. (Anybody expecting them to put FireWire back in the MacBook Pro?)
Those who need Touch ID will still be able to get it in Apple's lower-tier iPhone offerings.

Still think that apple should add both. It’s more secure yeah, but how much more secure could it be if you looked at the phone, it scanned your face, then it also quickly scans your finger on the screen as well. Pretty much removes the security concern that both ways present. Of course it would be an option to use both, but I think it would be a good security option. I don’t see it has to be one or another.

I'm going to be keeping my 8+ for a long... long time. I said the same thing about my 6s+ (kept it for 1.7 years). The 8+ had a lot of what my 6s+ had (touch id, etc...) to make it an upgrade I wanted to do.

I really am not looking forward to having to hold my phone up to my face every time I need to unlock it.

Absolutely no one knows what Apple will do with touch ID in the future. Absolutely no one at this point. All we can do is wait and see.

So you're telling me there's a chance that the apple kool-aid chugging macrumors forumgoers could possibly be speculating?

When Apple kills the passcode then I will start worrying.

Don't use TouchID for my primary phone, I use a passcode so TouchID could die tomorrow - don't care.

1.7 years?! I'm impressed. Most Apple users upgrade every second. ;)

Good job! :D
